Pre-Contest, Quiksilver Pro Japan. This was the last time the Fosters ASP Tour was there- 2005. The first round was underway, and Andy needed a warmup surf. He tries out his Chilli Surfboard, borrows a Lost Surfboard (from maybe Chris Ward?), and then returns on the Chilli for day one of the contest. Andy wasn't enthused with the first day's dull, slow beach break waves. No one was. Lay days came, and then they ran and finished at a better spot up the coast. Andy Irons won against Kelly Slater in a close final heat with good waves. More on the Quiksilver Pro Japan another time… we have it in the Nalu Vault.

Was just talking about Andy and just how good he was. Incredible talent, focus, confidence and courage set him apart. And he was having a good time getting wild with it all... even on the small, weak days he could tap into the fun of it all- falling and everything.

Love his surfing and his style Way better than kelly Andys cutback is so sharp and crisp Joel parkinson was similar, but joels maybe more fluid Killer surfers
