Andy Burdick, Melges Performance Sailboats, shared winning starting tips after he dominated the 2023 MC Scow Train Wreck regatta at Lake Eustis, FL. The event was hosted by the Lake Eustis Sailing Club and is part of a yearly, three regatta "Midwinter Series" held there. In this brief interview, his "baseline tips" for starting with a long line are:
1) Divide the race course into right and left halves.
2) Look for the side with greatest pressure (wind force) and lesser waves.
3) Start in pressure.
