I’m in Tennessee Tech’s Percussion Ensemble, and we’re playing this piece this semester, and it is, by far, one of the most difficult pieces I’ve EVER played. I LOVE this contemporary style composition!

Holy damn, this is amazing - the music and performance by each player. The section at 2:30 is beautifully surreal. This is an iconic piece.

This sounds so mysterious and melodic I love it. It’s creative atmosphere of percussion instruments and the slaps of the rubber bands to even deafening the strings on the piano, different sticks for the vibraphone and the other xylophones. I would of loved to do this piece when I was still in college doing percussion courses.

Very interesting to hear the contrast between this version and the one for "Pierrot ensemble" plus drumkit (kzread.info/dash/bejne/g4insbqvn6y9dqg.html). Both sound great; I wonder which form Akiho wrote it in first. He's a percussionist himself, so you might expect this one; yet even though it sounds wonderfully native to these sounds, it doesn't have nearly the color of the version with strings and woodwinds.
