Andvevarljod - Song of the Spirit-weavers (Skaldic version)

Музыка

Einar Selvik performing a skaldic version of the song "Andvevarljod" (Song of the Spirit-weavers) set for digital release 22nd December.
Andvevarljod explores the lore of the Norns, the Nordic deities of fate; the spinning of life threads, as well as the Norse and Sámi common idea that a person’s spirit is connected to the wind, both before and after birth.

I don’t think people truly realise what this guy is doing with his voice. His voice is the actual main instrument and is creating the melody, and the string instrument is minimal accompaniment. That is extremely hard to do and not many people can actually do this. Most vocalists rely on the music as the main melody and then accompany it with their voice. His skill is beyond this earthly plane I can assure you that. Well done brother 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Holy shit this hit me like a ton of bricks. When my son was born some weeks ago he didn't breathe for several minutes but had to get help from several of the medical staff to get started. The lines "Der omkring stod nornar ni, Vinda vevja, vind til liv" is almost a litteral translation of my sons birth, with the norms being several doctors and staff instead. (My son is totally fine nowadays). I get a tear in my eye everytime this song comes up in my playlist. Thanks Einar for making such awesome music!

In my native, slavic religion Solstice is also a time when the Sun- God dies and reborns. After ceremony with offerings to the Gods, we are participating in feast with 12 dishes- each representing the month in following year. The one chair must be empty, because it is place where spirits of the ancestors can sit and eat with us. We sing wishing songs, and Gwiazdor (Greater Poland folk name for "St. Nicholas" = Weles, God of the underworld) is visiting us and giving gifts. Happy Solstice everyone!

Though most of us do not experience the dark of winter as our ancestors did, for that alone we are blessed, but we have had a dark year. Sunna will rise again to stretch the day! Thru these 12 days, we will honor those before us, say goodbye to what we have done this past year and look toward a brighter future. Stay safe and warm throughout your feasting and celebrations. This versions lyrics. "As you saw your first day As you drew your first breath Gathered around, stood nine Norns They wound and weaved wind to life There you laid in your mother’s arms, bonded by a navel-chord They switched it with a kind-thread And into it spun, life and fortune The maidens went upon the family-mound Danced over elves and dead The wind is pulling them playfully It‘s this wind that shall follow you Nine Norns - rise up wove and wound - fate On behalf of my child, I offer gifts So none are weaving with ill will By stick, stone and sorcerous distaff They spin your fate without ill intent Nine Norns - hear me guard my path and lead with alleviating hands and in healing footsteps"

Among my people, story keepers, including those who carry the old songs, are called ayuni, and treated with special honor. Those who carry the traditions carry the memories of our ancestors and see that we remember who we are and walk mindful of ancestors yet to come. I have known such ayuni along my life's journey and have been blessed by it and made sure to share their wisdom and knowledge when I can. You are an ayuni, and a blessing to those past, present, and yet to come. Wado equa (thank you very much).

If it were one thing that could make the Kvitravn album any more perfect, it would be this scaldic version as a little extra track. Still the best complete album to date in my 30 years on this earth. Hopefully he'll release "The first flight of the raven" concert for everyone to see, it was pure magic! :-)

Happy winter solstice. From now our shadows grow shorter up here for some 180 days. I like this day more than the summer alternative. I like it as a geoscientist. I like it also because it is only 20 days until my father used to place butter on the wall of my childhood home. Where the sun's rays first reached down after being away for a while in the valley (we had to go up in in mountains to see the sun during mid winter). The butter melting by sun-light was always an awesome ritual. I am keen to listen to new music.
