Filling a frontman spot to a band that has one of the shtiest fan bases is tough. The problem is people idolize Jonny, Kurt, and tilian, there’s never going to be enough to satisfy the fans of a certain era. The band itself is dynamic with its material changing every new frontman and new album. Good luck to Andrew he honestly just needs to block the haters out because these new songs were fucking bangers!

Fantastic clip. Super informative. Andrew is a great vocalist that I think rides that line between rock and soul. He did fantastic when covering for Tilian on tour and his verses have been my favorite on the last few singles. He’s gonna kill it if he sticks around!

I just have to say I saw DGD when Tillian was away and Andrew filled in for him and I thought he did an INCREDIBLE job. Those high vocals are not easy to hit and all while he was going through so much. Bravo to him 👏🏼

I’m here for the Andrew era. He’s the only one I feel like could take over for Tilian when the era finally ended.

because the songs were written with tilians vocals in mind so him re-recording them, it doesnt mix and it's protooled to shit. and the old material isnt in his registry so, it's gonna be interesting to see how he does it live

I agree, I'm in a Dance Gavin Dance fans whatsapp group where many of the members made their lives around the band, it's so annoying :c That even made me take distance from my own taste of DGD :c

Andrew has such a pure voice I heard it the most on Ghost of Billy Royalton… so now that he’s stepped up his role I’m so happy for him.

I am sad for the tilian era ending thats what i grew up with. I am confident that andrew will be great, i love the new eidola album. I am happy we are getting someone who cares so much about the band

This really clears things up. Great interview. I will undoubtedly miss Tilian’s vocals on DGD tracks, but I think they are doing this right. Jon is the lead, Andrew keeps doing what he’s doing with a little extra pressure on the gas pedal, and they sometimes collaborate with other clean vocalists. Seems cool to me.

Andrew is a boss! Love Eidola, love his voice in general. Can't wait to hear an album with Andrew. Love Jon stepping up too, he's a consistent talent that needs to shine. Also fckin love the idea of the band going to a heavier place. Had no idea Andrew had vocal surgery! But also, Tilian sings insanely high, I don't want Andrew killing his voice. Let's get loads of new material and tour that!

I really hope Andrew sticks around in this role. He’s been my favorite part vocally since he joined. And I’ve been listening since 2007. There’s just something about his voice that seems like this bridge between Kurt and Tilian that I just enjoy so much.

As a 10+ year dgd enjoyer and the tour with andrew being my first show, i was more than pleased, i think it was a fantastic all around time, and look forward to the future.

Love Andrew's voice. I don't think anyone else is more qualified to lead the clean vocals in DGD than him.

Good luck Andrew. So far, I think you've done a great job on the new songs. All of you have.

Its not that people dont like your voice Andrew.......You're a super talented vocalist, and i've sincerely enjoyed you on every DGD song you've been on. Its just a feeling that your style doesn't fit with what's been the soul of DGD the last 10 years. I dont think that makes me a hater. Just an honest opinion. Tilians presence was SO MUCH of what made DGD for the last 6 albums. Its just a very difficult adjustment to get used to. Its a big vibe shift and thats undeniable. I hope it turns out for the best, I really do. I think a lot of us who arent the biggest fans of this shift lose sight of being thankful for what you guys were able to give us for so long. So lets not forget to say thank you to everyone. All the best luck for whats to come. But I cant deny that its like a piece of something I loved so much, died.

I always respect when bands have to make a change and create the music that they want to. Looking forward to Andrew singing more and whatever they decide for their future.

I love how honest Andrew is and how he is willing to make something work. He is an amazing singer. I love the “band DGD” and the writing style and not any particular member. I think it’s telling that a guy who has been around the band for years and helped creativity and been a vocalist stepping up to create something for fans is a true testament to his character. Sorry for your loss and thank you for giving the fan something. I’m just along for the ride.

I've loved this band for almost the entirety of their career. It doesn't matter who the clean vocalist is because I'm there for the DGD sound. I've mourned 3 vocalists so far, but I've learned to get excited about each new one. Jon IS the front man, and I love to see it.

I would love to see Andrew take on a lead singing role for DGD! He's got a fantastic voice. I can see him doing the same thing that Tillian did. Started out sounding a little unsure of how to vocally fit as the lead (clean vocal) singer, but over time fall into a place that absolutely nails it. Once Andrew does it and is comfortable in it, he's gonna blow it away

Andrew's voice is the best. Not whiney, not too high. It's perfect.

The way i just got super emotional when he started talking about Jon being the frontman. I think its well deserved and i hope we get to see what that looks like. I think Andrew's vocals are enjoyable and i think he'll do fine singing old songs. If he can cover Tilian then he can cover Johnny. And Kurt's vocals will be fine. I think this next chapter of DGD is going to be interesting, in a good way, and i cant wait for us to get more of these 2 songs

I mean it makes sense that Andrew takes over even though I’m still super bummed that tilian is gone. But excited to see what the future of this band holds. They have overcome so much stuff they might as well continue on.

I saw Andrew as the lead from the 2022 tour right after Tillian was benched. It was the first or second night of the tour, and i was soooo happy. Andrew's filling in on the tillian songs resulted in heavier takes, but overall he did a great job and i was soooo into it. Im here for the Andrew era, i just hope that we dont lose the groovyness of the last 4 years

Andrew has been part of DGD for a bit now and written lyrics and provided clean vocals for a while on many great songs. And yeah...Tillian had superb range, great lyrical talent...DGD starts and ends with the music. Its freaking awesome Martin's joining up for touring...hes been providing studio guitar riffs for them for a long time. He has some old videos up practicing his parts from earlier DGD material.

I told all of my friends when Tilian’s departure was announced that I hoped Andrew would step up, and he has absolutely killed it on the singles. I love Eidola and I love Andrew. I am so stoked for the future of the band. Maybe this doesn’t end up as the long term future, but regardless of how things play out, all these guys will always have my support.

Loving the sound of Andrew & Jon's voices together and hype for Jon to take more of a frontman role!! Andrew's powerful lows bring something new to the sound - for those saying they'll miss "Tilian highs", could Tilian even hit "Tilian highs"? - it honestly didn't seem like he could hit those without screeching live 😂

Great interview; loved getting the context behind the band's recent happenings. Great to hear the band is confident and willing to try new things. Wells will do fine in whatever capacity; I liked that he has been working on his high register. Nothing wrong with pivoting to Jon Mess as the frontman. For example: I listen to Erra, and on a lot of songs JT Cavey is basically the frontman, with Jesse Cash providing support and there's nothing wrong with that!

Man’s been proving for years he could step up. Anything that’s written for Andrew’s voice he kills. Give it some time with some Andrew/jon focused tracks and they’ll be spitting fire like ever
