Did you notice that when he became less clear he said, "We've been very clear." And then when Andrew said to him, "You keep saying you are very clear" he reverted back to his parrot-like, "We have been very, very clear." Clear as Glasgow mud!

    "Our currency"? Who's currency are you talking about? Scotland's banks issue £Sterling. Bank of England doesn''t. (See Promise to pay on BoE notes) Mark Carney and Mervyn King have both stated that a currency union would be in rUK's interests. Scotland agrees in the short term it would benefit Scotland and rUK but not in the long term. SNP would like to join the EU. It doesn't have great support. Most prefer joining Customs Union and EFTA rather than a political union.

    @@thefoxhat6163 Most sterling notes are printed by the bank of england not the bank of scotland. And if you are no longer a part of the united kingdom it would make sence that you wouldnt continue using the gbp. It doesnt really matter what the scottish people think if the snp get their way you will be rejoining the eu and more than likely forced to accept the euro as your currency. They often sit in parliament saying scotland doesnt want to be dragged out of the european union well if its up to them they will be the ones doing the dragging but not out they will drag you straight back in.

  • @thefoxhat6163

    @thefoxhat6163

    @@Starlas. Not one Sterling note is printed in or by the Bank of England. They Royal Mint prints and mints currency. It does so for more countries than Scotland and the UK. I'm not sure why you think a referendum on joining the EU could result in "SNP getting their way" when it will be the public voting. Now for your idiocy on the Euro. SNP have stated numerous times that the Sterling backed £(Scots) will be our currency. No one in Scotland has ever indicated a plan to join ERM2. They have expressed no plans to join it. Adopting the Euro requires voluntary entry into ERM2 for a minimum 2 years. You're a fucking idiot if you think Scotland can be forced into joining the Euro when no one can force us to volunteer to join ERM2. You miss the qualifying "Against their will" in not being dragged out. If we choose to leave by becoming independent, it is our will, not England's. When we have referendum to join the EU, the other options will be joining CU or EFTA or EU or a combination such as (most likely) joining CU and EFTA.

    The UK's deficit is 2%, which includes Scotland's 7% deficit. As much as I love Scotland I find it staggeringly naive that the SNP thinks Scotland can just join the EU where it would immediately go into special measures and require a bail out as Greece did. Scotland's deficit of 7% exceeds the EU's upper limit of 3% for its member states fiscal responsibility requirement. Not only that, Scotland accounts for half the UK's deficit in monetary terms but only around 8% of the UK's population live there. To state they could simply join the EU and continue to use the pound as its currency is staggeringly ignorant because no nation can join the EU unless it uses the Euro as its currency. This just goes to prove that the SNP do not have any grasp of reality and the slippery fish Nicola Sturgeon can't be trusted.

    Richard Madden but can’t join with a massive deficit. The EU (Germany in particular) aren’t stupid enough to let basket case countries crash their currency. The other aspect is the SNP are socialist, and rightly want in invest in public services (I’m all for this), but joining the EU limits the %of gdp a country is able to run as a deficit. This means they can’t really invest much at all until they have increased gdp by 7%. Without investment, that can only be done by more austerity an pandering to big corporations......anti-socialist Ask the Italians, they tried to implement some modest public spending programmes through borrowing to try and get their economy and country off its knees. The EU overruled their elected governments internal fiscal policy. Leaving the UK to join the EU simply moves the task masters from London to Brussels, except we have less of a voice in Brussels.

Like one of these tin pot dictatorships where the country is in turmoil but its leaders living in luxury cut off from reality. If they genuinely believe Scotland isn't being given a fair deal and its dominated by its larger richer neighbour in the UK then they would be in for such a rude awakening if the EU did let us join in exchange for taking in the euro and being tied to Brussels as they absolutely dominate and control the small countries who are just like small territories swallowed up by the roman empire and powerless at the hands of cesar or small states told what to do by the papacy during the middle ages. I just think its a shame that more enlightened politicians don't exist, that could find the equitable way forward for both the RUK and Scotland that meant there wouldn't be a need to split the UK up and force the erection of a land border(which ultimately will happen if you get independence, especially if your willing to have all the unknowns from abroad join you).
