    Who else is now getting a 'polite and respectful comments only' warning from the Spectator channel before allowing you to leave a comment? I was just going to remind everyone what a trustworthy and honourable man Andrew Neil is....nothing about his 'it's time to punish the unvaccinated' article honest.

    I'm convinced Sunak has played a blinder. Seems like we are heading down the path of a massive recession in the next 12 months. Starmer and cronies will have egg on their face if that happens. Our welfare state will shrink and unemployment will be huge. Sunak has no intention of being a serious player for next PM. He knows whats to come. Like Blair did to Brown before the 2008 crash. As they say history and all that. At least it will finish Labour off.

    @alanpage3973 your comment because of your political leaning? I can see reform not getting many seats due to FPTP and that reform vote being spread out and not having strongholds like the established parties. I also think the turnout out will be low in general at G.E. . Which will help Labour, as their voters won't stay home which will help them.

    Sunak should not be allowed to leave these shores until his wife has paid the tens of millions in tax she owes. Has repaid their ill gotten gains from Covid procurement and do many people realise that her business model is based on arranging visas and citizenship for people from India in Western countries? Surprisingly mass migration from India has gone through the roof during Sunak's tenure

    Becuase the people who have an issue with immigration are already voting tory, so Rishi doesnt need the new figures to win those votes. The reason he's calling it now is two-fold: the inflation figures just came out, and they're better than expected, and the less time he gives Labour to camapign and prepare, the better.

    @gopalramanathan7062 I mean, I disagree. Since I've been old enough to understand politics, we've had a Conservative government, and the nation has got progressively worse. I'm very prepared to try something new now that I can vote. As is much of the nation it seems.

  • @freddierhodes8201

    @freddierhodes8201

    @gopalramanathan7062 Honestly? Greater polarisation is a big part of it. Say a third of the country is right wing, a third is left wing, and the other third is somewhere in the middle. The two main parties have a choice: they can pass laws and policies their third likes, but there's a problem with that; if they don't get at least some of that middle third, they won't get in. So they move more toward the centre leaving behind their base, because the tories know that the already pretty right wing aren't going to stop voting for them because they became slightly less so, and vice versa for Labour. So the two parties become more and more similar as they compete over the same few voters in the middle. Of course, this model gets a lot more complicated when you accout for one extra factor: people's views shift. We've been under a tory government for a while now, and it's gone to great efforts during that time to try and scare people about certain topics, be that immigration or 'woke nonsense' or green policies or whatever. So the British population has, on average, shifted right. The Tories were all too happy to shift along with the population and go a little further right, and Labour has been forced to keep up or never have a chance of winning. This need to appear central is the big reason Starmer hasn't published a manifesto yet; he's being a vague as possible so as to not lose any votes. Recently (the last few years) the country has got well and truly sick of the government. Brexit, then the pandemic screw-ups, the corruption, the incompetence, Lizz Truss (enough said), having at times 3 times as many PMs since the last election than years, etc. So it's time for a change. But the parties have themselves changed over the last 15 years, along with the population. We're not getting back 1980's Labour anytime soon, and Reform UK is beating the Lib Dems in the polls, such is the hate and fear.
