    I have the blue G-10 20CV version as well, and it's way too much fun to play with. It's basically exactly what I was itching for earlier in the year - overbuilt and strong as heck, very fidget-friendly with great action, and has satisfying use of thumbstuds. With what I'm realistically going to be doing with a folder and at this blade stock thickness and geometry, I'm totally good with 20CV over 3V for the edge retention. Favorite new knife of the year for me too.

    @Strangely Brown Of those two, I only have the CS AD10 and would definitely pick the AD20 over it if available (and price isn't a factor). For the AD20, the blade profile, fidget factor, thickness behind the edge, coolness exclusive feeling, and weight are all better for me. The AD10 is a little bull-nosed for my liking, I prefer a pointier tip, as well as being rather thick behind the edge. The one thing the AD10 does win at is the ergonomics with its contoured scales. But even there, the AD20 has a more useable choil and pocket clip IMO.

    The blade steel on this knife is 3V. It is stamped on the blade and you can see it if you look down on the blade with the knife in the closed position. It is to the right of the jimping in line with the pivot. You may have to take a cotton swab and clean the steel to be able to read it. Also John Dempko states that this is 3V. The blade steel on the custom is 20CV. I own both knives and can verify this. Good thorough review.

    I have to say, I'd buy one of these if Cold Steel ever made them with phosphor bronze washers (I'm sure they'd sell incredibly well). Just as a sidenote, adding external stops to a knife that already has an internal stop pin is not something that would actually work well in application. Adding another constraint to a system that is fully constrained just doesn't work well (the knife blade would locate off of one feature, not both - especially if you consider wear). However, I do think you're right, external stop pins would have a very slight advantage if someone were prying with a knife. Perhaps we're overthinking the knife. It doesn't have to be a Hinderer. It looks amazing as-is. :)

    Hell yes. Everything about the AD20 screams to me. I have been waiting for Knife Center to drop these. And then yesterday I saw one with Full ti in the after market. Luckily I jumped on it, because Blade Center sold out of the G10 I wanted FAST. NOW my wallet is empty but my heart is full, of anticipation.

    @@metal_complex You mean price? Both are big , heavy , hard use knives. Both have bearings not washers. One has G-10 the other has GRN scales. I'm a lefty , I like that both are ambidextrous. I'd love to see a overall comparison between the two especially a lock strength test. I think everyone would agree that the CPM20V is a step above CPMS35VN but other than that I see a lot of similarities between the two knives. Just look at the blade shapes & design's , very similar.

  • @metal_complex

    @metal_complex

    Price, materials, country of origin and overall finish work is quite different. The Demko comes in a wide variety of different steels. 20cv, cruwear, 3v, s45vn and more. The SOGs lock is probably plenty strong, and both knives are probably way overkill in terms of durability. The main issue here is that we're comparing two knives with relatively similar capabilities, but the Demko is in the next "class" up. This area includes a lot of extra finish work and refinement that might only be valued by enthusiasts. Not everyone wants the same thing from their knives. Judging by Demkos lock tests, it's unlikely the SOG has a better lock if you really want my thoughts there, but again, both are overkill. So a lock strength comparison might be trivial. Sorry. It's just not a comparison that's going to make sense for a lot of people. I appreciate the conversation anyway.

    @@metal_complex I totally agree that the AD-20 is a "step above" the S.O.G. Country of origin though? Aren't they both American made? I received the S.O.G this last Christmas as a gift from a friend & have been carrying it ever since. I've stayed away from S.O.G. in the past but it looks like now they're really making an effort to put out better product's. Prior to the S.O.G. I carried the Spyderco Manix 2XL for 6yrs as my EDC & I think that knife might be my all time favorite. Like you mentioned in the video , I've never had any problems with the coil spring. I used to think that the Spyderco Manix 2XL in M4 with the Flytanium ball cage , ti back spacer , ti liners & possibly carbon scales would be my "Excalibur" but now you have me second guessing looking at this AD-20. When it comes to the performance of the AD-20 is it also a "step above" making it easy justify the higher price? I understand you're a connoisseur , having an appreciation for the higher end materials , craftsmanship & attention to detail that you'd expect from the more expensive knives. I appreciate your channel & value your opinion. Sometimes I think you're to modest & don't give yourself the credit you deserve. Thank you for your time !

    @@metal_complex The XR lock from S.O.G is a lock bar system very similar to the Axis lock from Benchmade.From what I've seen the difference between the XR & Axis is when you pull the XR lock tabs down it automatically starts pushing the blade out where the Axis does not. I'm curious to know if the XR lock uses the exact same omega spring's as the Axis lock or if the spring's are completely different. I agree with you , the locks on both the S.O.G. & AD-20 are plenty strong , the Shark lock is probably stronger than the XR but I still want to see them up against each other , I want to know how many pounds it takes to make each lock fail. S.O.G. claims the XR lock is rated up to 2,000lbs & says it's just as strong as the tri-ad. I don't know if I believe that. One thing is for sure , I'm going to put this S.O.G. through Hell to see how "hard use" this knife really is ! Something I might be scared to do with the AD-20 because of price lol , maybe that's the only advantage the S.O.G. has over the AD-20?
