Wards lead left jab is the ultimate tool. Every young boxer should train to have a jab like that, it penetrates , it probes, it keeps the opponent honest, its out there fast and strong all the time, it creates openings everywhere. Sweetness!

Ward also had the benefit of being a left handed orthodox fighter. It added to the power, authority, and dexterity of his jab. Also why the likes of Cotto, De La Hoya, and Cooney had powerful jabs, though I think Ward has the best out of them.

What's up with people loving Golovkin and hating Ward or loving Ward and hating Golovkin? Can't you appreciate both athletes? They're both incredible, both respect their opponents, and both are good ambassadors to the sport. Golovkin is trying to clean out 160 and he is staying there until he has fought all the big names there. Ward still wants some big names at 168 namely Chavez before he moves up to 175. Golovkin has the opportunity to fight light middleweights who will most likely be moving up in the near future like Canelo and Lara. Eventually Ward and Golovkin will fight but you don't have to hate one and love the other.

I'm not worshipping GGG. That's my favorite fighter out there right now but at 68 Ward might wear him down and get the decision. He's a bigger guy that knows how to wear down shorter power punchers. He can stink out the fight until the opponent looses some enthusiasm the way hopkins does. However Golovkin is more scientific than pacquiao. He doesn't waste movement and I don't think he's on ped's like pacquiao obviously was throughout his career. Quillin won't fight him, daniel Jacobs won't, cotto won't. He's waiting for big money fights with smaller guys at catch weights. Ward is waiting on golovkin to fight before he moves up to fight kovalev. Ward is a big 168 he fought at 178 in the Olympics. I'm not a pactard, marquez beat him every time.

  • @MrColelbarry

Nah, that fights pretty close even with wards natural size advantage. If he's a coward why has it taken so long for peter quillin, and miguel cotto to accept a fight with him? He keeps trying to unify the division and no one wants to take the risk.

Ward is a good fighter, a consistent fighter who’s style is made for winning...doesn't always look pretty; tends to hold to much and doesn't throw enough punches for my liking . But he’s undefeated and his record is impressive so no one can say anything bad about him

Stuffed if I can work the scoring system out. When I was fighting you got scored shit-all for hitting a guys gloves or elbows, you had to hit the front part of the body. According to my count Arthur won the first three rounds and lost the fourth yet the judges scored it even or Ward ahead. What fight are these guys looking at?

doing the stay in your house deep dive on divisions from 2010- 2015. up to 168 now. it was a strong era in this division. lot of good fighters and great time of european and uk based fighters. 168 is usually an international division. lot of good fighters froch, abraham, ward, kessler, bute and good fringe guys taylor, stieglitz, bika, smith plus up and comers dirrell brothers degale paschal and groves. the super six created an environment where the best guys all fought each other. the unquestioned man of the era was andre ward who beat most everybody and retired undefeated. the super six created the opportunity to fight much of the top and he took full advantage. froch would have been the best of most eras and had a great career as 2nd best. Ward became highly respected p4p but did not become the big money star in the usa probably due to the international flavor of his best wins and the 168 and later 175 divisions. i have noticed in 160 and up in 2010 to 2015, it was a great era for Germany. big crowds, lots of champions. of course the klitschos at heavyweight. felix sturm at middleweight. abraham and stieglitz at 68. marco huck and glowacki at cruiserweight. i don't know how much money they were making but they had the action.

That was not a dominant performance, the fight was close and Abraham threw more power punches. Ward was just a bit more accurate, especially with his jabs. This was not a particularly fan-friendly fight. People want GGG, Kovalev and Stevenson type of fighters who can really hurt boxers, knock them down in an impressive fashion.

Every fight Ward had was at home during the Super Six tournament. All the other boxers had to travel home and away. Ward was protected by the TV Network and by the referees who allowed Ward to headbutt, hold and constantly use the elbow. Oh and to punch below the belt line. Ward’s fight against Kessler should have been stopped and the win given to Kessler after the disqualification of Ward. Watch the two Kovalev fights and the corruption is in plain sight.
