thiago has a lot of potential, but right now he plays way too many loose passes for turnovers and he keeps his head down too much

Cesc has been fantastic since March, when started he playing deeper than his false forward role. His turnovers early in the year were mostly related to him not playing well with his back to the goal. And even though Thiago is a good defender, Barca defend with possession, and any turnover before the final third is unforgiveable and costly. If you don't see that Thiago loses the ball more than anyone else in the midfield, you haven't been paying attention. But he's young, he'll get better.

Thiago and Cesc's development has been bizarre. I can't figure out where either of them should play. Thiago runs and tackles well, but is too careless to play a holding position. But barca need more midfield, not forwards. Cesc was too aggressive from his attacking mid role, which seemed nice with the goals, but caused too much confusion in possession and left defensive holes early on. Cesc needs to be at CM. But he isn't great at surviving pressure. If only he could learn Xavi's 360 pivot.

i know. i dont think he will be a new xavi or iniesta. I think he will grow into a more offensive player.

you never know! i remember the season of xavi's debut he was about thiago's age and he was not the player he is now. i mean he wasnt better than thiago now i think and he wasnt the playmaker he is now. if someones remembers those years u would know how there was doubts about him being a good substitute for guardiola

except he cant really shoot from distance. or finish very well for that matter. I think sjurinho might be right about him trying to be something he's not (a xavi-like playmaker). But who knows what the future holds.. he may surprise us yet

It has nothing to do with him being good defensively or not. It has to do when having the ball. He is not xavi or iniesta. He doesnt have the same ability to never loose possesion and pass when he should and keep the ball when he should. He doesnt have the same awareness and perfection of playmaking. But he is absolutely amazing at dribbling. Therefore he could play further up the field. That was my thinking.

I agree. But I think Cesc can learn a Xavi role. That is what Im hoping for. And I think Cesc is good at surviving pressure but needs to get better at awarness and playmaking to get to Xavis level. And I think he is better suited to a Xavi role than Thiago is. Thiago needs to get another role further up to let him be himself. He can not try and be Xavi or Iniesta anymore. Its not working and it is a wasting of his talent since he cannot dribble so deep in the field and loose possesion

yes, he is young and he will be better as a player in the future. But its his style of play. Xavi had the same style when he was 21 as he has now. Thiago shouldnt change his style. No player should. They should rather try to perfect their own style and role in the team. And Thiago is no Xavi or Iniesta. He is a creative player. Amazing at passing players. For me, it seems as he tries to be someone he is not. And therefore he will not reach his full potential

Thiago reminds me more of a poor man's Ronaldinho than Xavi or Iniesta.

Who had that ability at age 21? Sergio Busquets. And Xavi was that good at age 21. Cesc has been an elite playmaker since he was 17. Obviously Messi had that ability at age 21. I will say that Pedro is a superior possession passer than Thiago and has been since he was 22 when he broke into the lineup in place of Henry. The fact is that I have high high hopes for Thiago, but he was subpar this season.

also and im not proud of this but i didnt think iniesta was a good player when he started playing with the first team
