Bruno employs an all black band and has written several hits for black artists without even bringing it up. Did you know he wrote F You by Cee-lo? You can't be a vulture if you enhance the quality of life of the community you are inspired by. Black people in general just like good music. It's these internet weirdos that try to make us look like we're that petty.

I think it has more so to do with how creativity is cultivated in the Black American community. Personally, I think bruno is talented but I don’t see him as a ground breaking artist, a lot of his music don’t scream innovative, just rehashed samples that you can dance to. Just my opinion.

@@tylerhandsome7344 uh...Michael Jackson got plenty of credit, is hailed the king of pop, and he has 13 Grammys, Babyface gets plenty of credit, and has 11 Grammys, James Brown gets credit and is called The Godfather of soul and has 3 Grammys, Stevie Wonder gets plenty of credit, considered one off the greats and has 25 Grammys. And there was FAR more crazy competition back in the days. These were the influences Bruno spoke of in this interview, and these guys got credit and awards. Even if those greats don’t get as much as they should, why is Bruno wrong for being influenced by them, making great music due to his influences, and constantly paying homage to who influenced him? Even black rappers now are getting way more credit and awards/money than those that came before them. The music is becoming way more mainstream. And what about all the Filipino artists who don’t get any spins in America? And you do know that plenty of the R&B classics we know and love by black artists were written and produced by even white guys right? Look up David Foster and Rod Temperton. These guys have written huge hits for Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Tony Braxton, Heatwave, Earth Wind and Fire, Brandy, Monica, Mariah Carey, Destiny’s Child, and many more. Don’t forget that Bruno is doing his writing, producing, playing instruments, and has been doing so for many in the industry for years before we even knew him as an artist. He’s given to R&B, not just taken. People love his music, and he makes them happy, and he’s not a cultural appropriator trying to pass the music off as his own. What is he doing wrong? Are you saying he should stop making music, or should he only make Filipino music and Reggaeton?

Music be changing so fast I can't really blame Bruno for feeling like anything else he puts out wouldn't hit the same. Anderson Paak being as relevant as he is within the industry is proof that Bruno is just in his head. They are both in the same wheel house musically and its a blessing that these two found each other. The single is amazing and this album is gonna be insane, can't wait.

Great interview. Man, these two actually enjoy working together and what’s even better, they’re REAL friends, you can tell by their energy. They actually want to see eachother doing good. They aren’t trying to outshine eachother or compete, and they don’t care about the money; they truly, genuinely want to put out good music for us and they enjoy making it just as much as we enjoy listening to it. It’s soulful, meaningful and catchy. These two guys compliment eachother well and I am, for the first time in 20 years, going to buy this album and play something on it everyday.

The only thing artist of other backgrounds owe black artist / black culture is credit for creating the specific genera of music or cultural practice , and a check where appropriate. Bruno Mars is not a culture vulture because he gives credit to black artists all the time and works almost exclusive with black artists . He owes nothing other than to represent the culture well. He does that exceptionally well. The problem is black artist abandoning their own roots and cultural music to rap exclusively . Bruno has not only filled the gap that black artist left , he , the handful of neo soul artists and Anderson Paak are the only ones keeping R and B alive. I am glad these two got together. Love both of their work. They are both brilliant.
