The show is disappointing as a black woman it feels so forced and social justice narratives are being forced down my throat instead of storylines. Now each character has a minority friend like a new accessory. The characters are not who they were. I miss story instead of contrived ideological ideas being pushed down my throat. It can be incorporated in a much better way.

I agree - I think the original SATC has gotten so much flack in later years for its lack of diversity that they are trying to change that narrative this time around but it feels forced - I am willing to let them stumble around a bit here but hopefully it will find a flow that seems more natural.

It's like how they did Tina dirty in the L Word: Generation Q. In Season 1, it was written that Tina didn't go to Kit's Funeral, she died off screen. Even though Bette and Tina are divorced, she still would've came to Kit's Funeral.

we love the characters. everyone is gorgeous and dynamic. the writing on this series is absolutely terrible. why has everyone been dumbed down and made ignorant? these are bright new york city women. if there’s a second season please focus less on being woke and inclusive and tell stories that feel more authentic and heartfelt. also, a few laughs would be nice.

They're trying too hard and none of it feels actually inclusive. They abandoned the almost offensive hilarity of the original (that we loved so much) and didn't even reach the inclusivity and "wokeness" they're aiming for.

As a fan of the original series, this “revival” has been a disappointment. It’s like the writers forgot who these characters were and are intentionally showing them as the three most unlikable and cringy mid-50’s women in New York. Terrible

@@madammadonna I remember the original series very well and those episodes were fun. These new ones, not so much. Miranda has been made such a ditzy and by far she’s the most unrecognizable from the SATC Miranda. That Miranda was always assertive. Episode 4 where Charlotte is trying to collect black friends killed that character for me, no matter how much they will use her new friend to “validate” she’s inclusive. I don’t even remember what the friend’s name is because she’s just there as a token minority with no real dimensionality to her. And the same goes for the other POC characters they have introduced. And Carrie has been so insufferable, acting indeed like she’s 65 or 70, so sad, and the whole podcast storyline is so risible. Like really? They couldn’t come up with something more creative for her? The show is so frustrating. I echo what others have said in that it feels so desperate. I tried four episodes but the last one was so stupid and cringy I don’t know I can attempt another one.

Why would they do this to us? Do they not know who the SATC audience is at all? My heart breaks more and more with each episode, yet I have to watch because I loved the original show so much. The writers did these iconic characters dirty. They're just gone. "Sad. So very, very, sad."

Honestly they could have just started a fresh series without any relation back to the original series. There’s no connection to SATC at all. None of the characters is actually having any!

If any of these actresses had a look at the first scripts for this series and accepted the work anyway, they obviously didn’t give a rip that it was awful and they stayed for the money. Were these characters in an isolation chamber all these years? Why else would they never have heard of black people in positions of authority or people who are transgender or non-binary, etc. to the extent they don’t have a clue how to act? OMG anybody who was an SATC fan has lived in this world and is comfortable with it. Quit hitting us over the heads with “woke” sledgehammers. If you arrogantly think we need it that says more about you than us. And why on earth did you take the once wonderful character of Miranda who used to be smart, strong, and independent and turn her into a stammering whimpering fool begging for approval? I watched three episodes and found each worse than the last. I’m done.

I get it. The characters have to move on. But this revival has been nothing but a disappointment. Stop pandering and be more heartfelt. Miranda would never let anyone, let alone Brady and his gf talk to her like that. Charlotte has become too self absorbed to even care about Harry. Carrie has lost Big, but her character is so 1 dimensional. Nothing about this show is good. There is no need to be overly inclusive. Just be yourselves

I soooo wish this re-boot wasn't so condescending to the viewers/fans. I happen to be 57 yo (the characters demographic) and the way they have written the characters, they feel like they are in their 80's. NONE of my contemporaries (and I am a New Yorker) ever refer to their lives in the OLD way that these characters tend to. This re-boot made me go back and start re-watching the original and it was sooo much more fun than I even remember. Of course there was serious moments and that is fine, but People in their 50's HAVE FUN!! PLEASE listen to the fans and write a season that is LIGHTER & LESS PREACHY. #my2cents

I loved the original series, and was cautiously optimistic about this update, but, so far, I'm pretty underwhelmed. There's no Samantha, Willie Garson passes away unexpectedly and they apparently don't really acknowledge it in the story, because they bring back Big just to kill him off? And I get wanting to show more diversity in the cast, but I agree with the many other people posting comments that it feels forced. I'm going to watch the whole thing, however, I don't know that I'll be encouraging anyone else to watch it. Meh.

Great comment. I agree and am disgusted with the forced, over done "wokeism" and "white guilt" , basically Miranda's complete story line is horrific. She used to be a high profile attorney as a character, competing with the big boys of wall Street, etc..and to be relegated as a bumbling fool who won't stop yacking about what seat she sat in at some workshop

I love SATC but sadly not AJLT. They all look like one big happy family. To me the episodes we’ve seen until now have unfortunately a very very low standard. My guess is the fact that they have felt waaaay too comfortable making it that they’ve forgotten to check how the end result actually came out.

I'm watching but I'm not enjoying the show, the writing is really bad...

I finished binge watching it tonight and loved every minute of it. My mother passed away unexpectedly last June so it also felt therapeutic. Can’t wait for season 2. ❤️

I've said it many times before, but the only SATC reboot I'll watch is 'Samantha and The City.'

I read the reviews before watching and was expecting the worst - but it was better than I thought. Love and miss these girls so much that I was so happy to see them together again, and there are some really good moments. The original series was so smackingly smart and fresh that this reboot probably can’t help being a little disappointing but hey, there’s fashion, interesting storylines and NYC so just go with it!

Missing the magic- it seems forced, such a pity it could have been great

I’m the same age as these women and have been a fan since day one. I own all the seasons and was sooo excited when this reboot was coming. Watching it has never made me feel so old in my life. The ailments and the constant reminding of how old they are is embarrassing…like they’re 80 yrs old. Michael Patrick has lost his understanding of women now and shouldn’t have bothered. And yea, I get it, the world has changed and tolerance has changed but it’s like they were just beamed down into it and don’t know how to live in this world. The only people that don’t know how to navigate thru the changes are those that protest. The rest get it and move on and adapt. This should have been a completely different show than a reboot of SATC.

As a white woman of this age, I am very disappointed that there are so few roles representing us in a positive light. These women have a platform, and how do they display this age group? As a bunch of clueless, entitled idiots who no longer are necessary to exist in society. I mean, this is the message that has been shoved down our throats for centuries! Have these women learned nothing over the past two decades? Where is the wisdom? The sensibility? The passion for life? Why isn't Carrie traumatized by the loss of her husband!! Why is Miranda all of a sudden into women? How can Charlotte and Miranda live in NYC their entire lives and have no idea how to act around people of color?? WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS SHOW?? If the only intention was to shove wokeness in our faces, they're about two years too late! The theme is offensive to people of age and people of color. They are really tone deaf to their audience!

Feels like that's why Kim Cattrall left. Her character was embracing her womanhood the best. She was unapologetic, open, ahead of her time and not judgemental. She wouldn't of been able to fit in this new serie even if she wanted to.

I totally agree with you! I consider myself fairly liberal and it just seems like a play for “wokeness”. I shudder even typing that word but the stories don’t feel authentic. As you expertly put it some of the characters feel more like props than people!

This show is terrible, and the original characters are not being portrayed as themselves older, but they are being portrayed as totally different people. People in their mid fifties aren’t geriatric. And that wig on Cynthia is too obvious.

She finally got a mini face lift. She avoided it, but looks like she made the leap. She looked well into her 70s a few yrs ago.

There are a few things that have irritated me in the show, The adding of so many minority's is getting a bit over the top , when the girl in the wheelchair came in at carries work at the radio station was a bit much, but one of the main things that is getting on my nerves is them including coronavirus into the show ! we all know about coronavirus, we are living it , we watch shows like this to forget about whats happening in the real world and to escape ,but instead they want to constantly remind us that coronavirus is here throughout the show it extremely annoying!

I never watched the original series until recently. I loved it, the 2 movies and the ladies now, They are dealing with the realities of aging , Nobody can stay 32 forever.

This show is so cringey and awful. The writing, characterization and acting is bizarre. Even worse, the show isn't fun to watch.

Exactly, in the end it could be stupid or frivolous and out of touch with reality but fun, but it's so depressing and forced, I couldn't end the 1st episode. It s really bad...

They look so Phenomenal and Beautiful, Ive been enjoying this show, everyday, Cant wait for the next episode.

Self-love starts with forgiving yourself for past mistakes and allowing yourself grace to make mistakes in the future-you are human, after all.

So, so, so good. People are saying that characters aren't the same, they've changed - and I think its a reflection of real life. People change, dynamics change, personalities change. I am loving every second of it.

You do grow and you do change but come on - the only explanation for this new Miranda is that her mother went back in time,aborted Miranda and had another girl with the same name. A disgrace!

Ladies....I am a south african who binge watches this regularly and I loved it.......I loved Che soo much......I loved the story lines. Soo happy for Season 2 coming and I cant wait!!!!

We want Samantha back!

I hope it gets better next week. This show is supposed to be funny, a little shallow and so far…not even soap operas from Mexico are so dramatic like those 4 episodes. And what about kindness? What happened to the characters in the show? Everybody is so mean! Jesus!

There are no words to describe how aggressively, miserably, shockingly awful this show is. Once smart empowering women.. now they're awkwardly and defensively apologizing for living. They're irrelevant, lost, confused and being told what to do and think by self-righteous people sometimes half their age around them. It's like they all had lobotomies and lost all their self worth and place in life. Apparently 50s is the new 80s... oh and by the way the SATC key message of female friendship prevailing through all was undone entirely in one petty line in episode one.

This cringy woke fest they made just shows how these actors and producers are so out of touch with the reality. I dont know what is the targeted audience but people who like genuine stories and not check boxes and pandering for sure are not

yeah, the genuine stories are lacking. We now just have a grief for a loved one, fights inside the family for various reasons and with children and secret alcoholism... why so many people cannot understand that 55 year old ladies with families cannot have the same lives they lived when they were single 20 years ago...?

Exactly! It seems like three actresses and the producers must live in a privileged bobble far away from everyday life. I don’t understand why they can’t see themselves how their attempt of being woke and inclusive in the series looks so desperate and unnatural

They have the chemistry, the writers are ovlious and MPK has lost touch about the characters, therefore the mess.

Did they film a full series or can they cancel it soon? When a new movie premiers on HBO max and does not do well they usually pull it.

I’m enjoying the next chapter!

I watched all six seasons of the show religiously. It was my favorite show for years and it holds a special place. The original series was missing diversity, so I am glad to see inclusivity. But, in my opinion, it feels forced. I am also in the same age group as the characters ( 50’s). I can relate to most of what they are going through, which makes the show enjoyable. I also love seeing attractive, successful, smart, strong characters being represented. But I do feel a void without Samantha’s character and again, I feel like the storyline is a little forced but I will still watch.

@@marlagreenspan4081 , diversity for the sake of diversity is pandering, in this particular case it’s blatantly obvious. “Diversity” is now a meaningless word, used as a shield against the horrid cancel culture.

To say "And just like that" is a disappointment is an understatement! The writing is horrific!

It was great to see this. I love the show. Do NOT listen to the critics of this reboot; from what I've seen and heard of the critics, they don't get the show and never did. It was NEVER about the fashion and the trappings; at the heart, it was always about being woman navigating unconventional life choices; being the outlier of still being single in your 30s and 40s. It makes me laugh when suburbanites who married in their 20s think it's about them because they like shoes. That ain't it. Ignore them. I am very glad the show is back, in this form, and you're expanding its view and working it out. Bravo!

Kristin Davis you should never have had face work done, whether it was surgery or fillers. There is nothing better than just the look of aging gracefully and/or naturally. The others look really good though.
