"Lotus Emerging out of Water" is a traditional "Hakka Han Music." "Hakka Han Music" has a long history. It was brought in by the ancient Han people when they moved south from the Central Plains. After integrating with the language, folk music, and opera in Guangdong and western Fujian, it evolved into the unique "Hakka Han Music."
"Lotus Emerging out of Water" was notated in 1933 by Chinese music theorist and performer Rechu Qian, and is a representative work of "Hakka Han Music." "Lotus Emerging out of Water" was originally a guzheng piece, with a pristine tone, and beautiful and elegant melody. The whole song is not long, but it depicts the demeanor and temperament of the lotus vividly with various expressive techniques.
In 1963, Shicheng Lin, a famous pipa educator, gave a lecture at the Guangzhou Music School. He listened to Jiuxiang Luo, the famous "Hakka Han music" teacher, playing "Lotus Emerging out of Water," He was amazed at its elegant and graceful charm. He then adapted it into a pipa song. "Lotus Emerging out of Water" was quickly disseminated in China and became a classic in pipa music.
