Ancient Delphi and the Best Restaurant of our Greek vacation!

In this 4k travel guide, we stay in Arachova, Greece to visit the ruins of Ancient Delphi, see the Temple of Apollo, and possibly consult the Oracle. We also have THE best restaurant experience of our entire stay in Greece!
We start the day by heading north from Olympia to Delphi, leaving the Peloponnese behind for the first time since we arrived in Greece. We arrive at Ancient Delphi in the late morning of a very hot summer day. There were more tour groups at Delphi than other ancient Greek ruins than we've been to on this trip, but most of them left after the first hour. We see Apollo's Temple at Delphi, the Forum, the center of the earth, and Delphi's stadium (so impressive!). After lunch, we make a quick stop into the airconditioned archaeological museum.
Don't miss our comparison of several of the well-known ancient Greek sites! If you can only choose one Greek ruin to visit, you'll want to hear which is best, between Epidaurus, Messene, Olympia, and Delphi.
We share some of the history of Retsina wine (we had no clue what we had bought at Lidl! - but it turns out there's a history!), and visit the incredibly scenic town of Arachova. Arachova also happens to be where we had the single best meal of our entire Greek vacation - at a very highly recommended restaurant.
The fantastic restaurant we went to (reservations strongly recommended):

    Hi guys. Really nice content. I have seen almost all of your videos of Greek series and you did great job. Retsina is a really unique type of wine. In the earlish era of modern Greece used to be the most famous alcohol drink among Greeks. It was frequently referred as the drink of people because is very cheap. Also started to made it in Athens in huge amounts back to end of 19th century and all people drunk Retsina in Tavernas. But this fashion transferred to Northern Greece and till now it's really common drink in the Northern part of country instead to Athens which now isn't so popular. Retsina is really nice if you compine it with coca cola in the same glass. Retsina is the kind of drink that or you love it or you hate it. Also is really common for students who want get drunk with less money 😂

    Ha! Wow - thanks for this extra insight (and thanks of course, for watching!!). I wish we had tried it with coca cola - that sounds like a really interesting combo! I'm really glad we came upon this wine. So fun! Thank you!!

    Great video, like everything you did for Greece. If you want to pronounce Greek sites correctly or Greek words in general, keep this in mind: When you see the letters Ι-ι, Υ-υ, Η-η, ΕΙ-ει, ΟΙ-οι, ALWAYS pronounce them as "ee" as in "tree". Continue your wonderful tour.

    Just found your channel today and have watched 3 or 4 Greece travel videos already. I'm so excited because I'm putting together a trip for us in 2 months. We've booked Athens and Hydra and I'm trying to decide where else to go. Looks like it will be Nafplion (with side trips to Mycenae and Epidavros) and Delphi. I'll start looking for hotels in Arachova and definitely want to eat at Tsoukali Restaurant. That experience is right up my alley. Did you visit anywhere else near Delphi? Thanks again for the lovely videos on Greece.

    We only visited Delphi / Arachova in that area (plus the Monastery at the beginning of our Athens video). We would love to go back and explore it more because it's beautiful! Enjoy your trip (and thanks for watching our channel!!)!

    Lovely videos and good commentary, Heather and Bill. My husband and I are planning a first-time trip to Greece this fall and we'd like to visit some of your favorite places, especially Delphi. You were driving most of the time, right? I've read in various travel books that Greek drivers are pretty rowdy and so driving for Americans can be a real challenge. What do you think?

    Yes, we drove everywhere but in Athens! We didn't have many problems at all. Don't be surprised to share the road with people passing you - the lane market lines are merely suggestions in Greece. 😂 We just moved to the right without stopping, to make room for them to pass. They'll pass right in the middle of the road. Is someone is coming toward you in the opposite direction, same thing -move over to make room. It's normal there. 👍 Enjoy!!

    Hi, can you tell me is there a lot of uphill walking at Delphi. I’m nearly 78 so it can be an issue, planning being there the last half of October.thanks

  • @TalesFromOurPocket

    @TalesFromOurPocket

    There was a fair amount of uphill walking and stairs in Delphi. Olympia and Messene are much flatter. Epidavros has light hills but not bad. We try to plan for easier walking earlier in our trips, and harder ones toward the end (assuming we'll be in better shape toward the end 😂). Athens' Acropolis has a lot of stairs to get up there, but there's also an elevator and it's flat at the top.
