Ancient City of Ephesus, The Temple of Artemis and St. John's Basilica

Ephesus is a site not to be missed if you are visiting western Turkey. It is such a huge site with so many areas to explore.... you could truly spend a few days there. The Library of Celsus was the highlight of the main site. It was so well-preserved and the detail on the building was mind blowing. Of course, the stadium and theater were also pretty amazing. Walking down the cobblestones, you feel as though you've been transported back in time.
There is so much history to see and learn in Turkey, with Ephesus being probably one of, if not the best historical site. Just make sure you get there as soon as they open like we did. Ephesus is one of the most popular tourist sites in Turkey and it gets very crowded with people and tour groups later in the day.
Just down the road is the site of the Temple of Artemis, which is one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. Unfortunately, today it lies in ruins, but it was once the largest temple of the time. This site is completely free so make sure to check it out when you visit Ephesus.
If you buy a combined ticket, you also get entrance to the Basilica of St. John. This site was also massive and truly was one of our favorite ruins to walk through. There is even a citadel and castle high on the hill above the Basilica, with amazing views over the landscape. Please don't miss this site if you come to Ephesus. Our advice is to do St. John's Basilica on its own day, as it takes hours to fully experience it and walk through all that is here. If you buy a combined ticket to Ephesus, you can use it the following day to see the Basilica.
