Tbh I thought around there as well. Especially after they talked about anchoring. I assumed they would anchor really low and then get funny reactions when there guess is tiny compared to the real amount

As soon as i saw the jar i was like 700 then she said higher or lower 6000 So i said 2500..

the reason they are "stupid" is they just guessed based on the estimate given instead of actually looking at the jar, like that one person who counted the top layer

There are 3000 ish. Interesting series..

I was 55 off. I took a rough estimate of the jelly beans dimensions and made a rectangular prism out of them. 17*14*14 and then I added 1 for fun to make it 3333. I suppose that's an educated guess since I'm using more information than I was initially given.

pretty impressive a lot of people actually got very close to the real number!

Rather than counting I would estimate by weight, if each bean weights between .5 and 1 gram you could have between 100-200 beans per 100 grams. Next step is to estimate the weight of bowl which according to result is around 3-4kg.

roughly a sphere. radius is 9 jellybeans. 4/3pi(r^3) is 3055. not bad.

I guessed 3200! Mostly because I just won a guessing jar today which was half the size of that jar and it was filled with gumballs about twice the size of those jelly beans.

Calculate the volume and adjust down to account for space between the contents. My guess was 4,051 when accounting for about 80% filled. When changing answer to 75%, which I usually do, the answer I got was 3,404.

I thought 6000 sounded so outrageously high that it didn't influence me at all but if I had heard 1500 first it probably would've influenced me especially because I thought there were less than 1500

Or you can use your phones screen as a baseline measurement and get an estimate of the volume of the part of the jar that is full than get an estimate of the volume of a gelly been and do some math and than you can at least have a guess that will be in the ball park of the actual number.

ayeeee I guessed 3500 since I counted around 10 jelly beans from the side to center of the container. 4/3pir^3 is the equation of a sphere so you get 1000*pi*4/3 which is around 3000*4/3 which is around 4000. But it’s not a sphere, it’s a lot less than a sphere so I said around 3500

Counted it again this time the whole top layer had 190 and counted the layers 18 and got 3420 this time

I was literally over by 90 jelly beans. My guess was 3478. Thats a 97.5% accuracy rating

What if the number was exactly 6000 jellybeans so no matter what answer they chose, it would be wrong.

Just take the guesses from a 100 people (discarding extreme values) and calculate the average. That will be very close to the real value.

That works. You should also account for how densely jelly beans pack given their odd shape, for example if they were perfect spheres you would expect them to occupy about 74% of the total volume of the container. A google search reveals that the packing factor for jelly beans is between 0.7 and 0.715. So now all you need to do is to measure the dimensions of the container.
