    Thank you I've used Ancestry off and on for a couple of years . Now I am aware of notes and comments and their uses which is great. I'll no longer need to jot down bits of info on paper and everything will be in one place so won't get lost like paper. I can also see that I can use comments to let owners know that they've attached the wrong people to my ancestors and they can choose to consider the errors. Must simpler than emailing complete strangers. A very useful video .

    I came back to your KZread presentation because I needed to refresh my memory as to where info from Census should be help, notes or comments.. In the meantime, some of this info is in my Facts so now I'll get busy and put it into my NOTES instead! Thanks for your teachings, they are wonderful.

    Hi Crista, I'm so glad that you have returned the notes and comments to the home page instead of the drop-down box. I just hope users will click on the tools section to activate the links. I also used Member Connect in the past and was happy to see it returned as well.

    Hi Crista - love your videos! And I, like you, am a big fan of FTM. I kept my research notes, etc in FTM (and maybe they are visible on Ancestry? I'm just slow) I am disappointed that Ancestry has decided not to support FTM in the future., and I feel uneasy about continuing to load so much data into FTM. Can you perhaps do a video to explain what will and will not be available in FTM in the future, and what you are doing to safeguard all of the detail in FTM. Also, I really like to publishing capabilities, and reports in FTM. Will those be moving to Ancestry? Thanks!!!

    +SandyQueue Thanks for your comment, Sandy. I am still using FTM and plan to continue doing so for at least a year. Ancestry has publicly stated that they will continue to support it until Jan 2017. In the meantime, other options are being explored providing ongoing services to FTM users. Ancestry has also committed to incorporating some of the software functionality into the website. So, I will keep my ear to the ground and as soon as any decisions are made, I will be sure to let everyone know. BTW - Your notes do sync with your online tree. When viewing the profile page of a person in your tree, click on TOOLS (top right) and then click View Notes. If you want, you can also select SHOW RESEARCH TOOLS at the bottom of the tools menu. Then the notes button will always be in the header, saving that extra click. ;-) (Crista)

    There is a feature on Comments that is Hide and Unhide. By error, I hid two comments out of three. The little blue icon still shows three, but in the actual Comments section there is one (because I hid two). How do I un-hide those comments I previously hid?

    This is a huge help for me. Thank you so much. When I print out the facts page, does the print out contain all sources and notes?

  • @AncestryUS

    Printing the FACTS tab on a Person Profile in your Ancestry Online Tree lists all facts, all immediate family members (parents, spouse, and children), and the title of all source citations. It does not include complete source citations, the images of sources, or the private research notes.

    Hi. Love your videos. How can you view all of the comments in your family tree? How would you know that someone left a comment about an individual? Would you only find out when you happen to be viewing that person, or is there some kind of notification? Seems that would be a useful to view all of the comments and then be able to work through then? I have not been able to find this.

  • @AncestryUS

    There is not one singular location to view all comments in your family tree. You do receive an email notification (if you have your email settings set to receive notifications) when someone leaves a comment on your tree.

    I know this aired 7 years ago. However, I would like to be able to print the notes. Also, did the notes come from notes I created in Family Tree Maker? I didn’t make them on Ancestry. Hope you still get this question. I have followed you for years and remembered that you had done a video on this. Thanks again. Mary Lou Bockert

    Hi, Mary. Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry for any frustration you're feeling regarding notes. We're happy to answer your questions. If you know that you didn't do the notes on Ancestry and you know that you had Family Tree Maker in the past, then the notes must have been created on Family Tree Maker. We no longer support FTM, but you can chat with their support and they should be able to answer any questions about notes on FTM. We'll include an article about FTM. To chat with them, click on "Contact MacKiev" which will give you the chat option. support.ancestry.com/s/article/Family-Tree-Maker-FAQ?language=en_US

    Just watched this video, another job well done. Can you copy (from notepad, word processor or PDF) and paste into Notes? My 3 Great Grandmother was married 3 times, the birthday of her 2nd husband was on their marriage application and his death was on the marriage application for her 3rd marriage. I put a note as to where I found the death information in the in line description for that fact. I have no other information about this man. How would you handle the death information for husband number 2? Any help appreciated.

  • @AncestryUS

    @AncestryUS

    Yes. You can copy and paste into the notes in your Ancestry Online Tree. As for husband #2 - you could attach the marriage applications as a source for his birth and death dates then make a note and/or put information in the fact description about where the information came from.

    When I use the Notes feature for someone in my tree on the Ancestry.com site, it does not remember my formatting. If I type notes in as multiple paragraphs, when I open the Notes later, it has run all the paragraphs together. Is there a way to prevent this?

  • @AncestryUS

    @AncestryUS

    I had not noticed this before. I type up all of my notes in Family Tree Maker and they sync with all formatting intact including paragraphs, bold, etc. I just tested inputting a note directly into Ancestry and noticed that paragraph formatting is removed. I will pass this along to our TREES team. Thanks. (~Crista)

    I noticed that you mentioned putting a comment on another person's tree when you have found an error. Can you give me some advice? I found where someone combined two people with the same name on their tree. The tree owner has used the sources I uploaded for my ancestor for her ancestor by the same name. I emailed the tree owner a month or so ago and offered to send wills and other documentation for the ancestor by the same name that she is researching but she didn't respond to my email (I was very polite). At this point, would it be discourteous to make a comment on her tree? Her tree appears to be well-documented at first glance.

I found the fences report on her,her mom,dad, and sister. My mother as well as everyone in her family. How do I find out how she died.
