    No they can't. I've been contemplating this and it seems leaders can't be held accountable. They have been given global immunity. South African leaders themselves have failed to take accountability for their own crimes. Including their own arms deals. Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, George Bush, Barack Obama, Tony Blair, Jacob Zuma. Even Malema who was interviewed by the same reporter has spewed out hate speech for over a decade but doesn't answer to anyone. The list goes on for war crimes and human rights violations but nobody does anything despite their own people calling for justice. Large corporations exploit people and the environment but nobody does anything. South Africa has been going through this turmoil for years but nobody does anything, nobody says anything. Society as a whole should be protecting the innocent and putting a stop to injustice. Unjust, uncaring people have no place in leadership positions.

    That show (Hard Talk) is normally 25 minutes long, so you're only seeing the END of the discussion. Its being presented to you as if the interviewee is being cut off, bit that's deliberately misleading. They try and keep it in the time limit because they want to keep it unedited.

    The show is called 'Hard Talk- and its supposed to be challenging, taking up the most thorny issues with politicians, economiats, environmentalist, writers, philosophers... all sorts of people, from all over the world. And they arent any more gentle with British politicians, in fact I think they are more aggressive as they often know more detail about them. The interviewee knew exactly what kind of show it was when he accepted to go on it, as it's been going 20 years and many prominent ANC figures have been on it including Mandela... even F W de Clerk was given a hard time on it.

    The fact that a South African official is somehow expected to justify the actions of his government to a western journalist … 😮😮😮😮 Can you imagine let’s say the UK trade minister being interviewed in this fashion by a Chinese journalist? Just because a journalist ask, an South African leader must answer? He is just trying to provoke the South African leader to say something to incriminate South Africa. Then USA will use ICC, and other NATO/USA influenced international bodies to sanction and punish South Africa. South Africa is not to be bullied now. South Africa is part of BRICs. But he asked a very relevant question in current affairs, which many people want answered, considering Russia's relationship with SA in BRICS, as well as the challenges and disruption Putin is trying to make to international law and the UN etc. I think he looks despairing at a rather pointless noisy deflection from his question... he realises it was becoming a waste of time. Also it's a 25 minute show with no edits, so telling him they are running out of time is normal... (this clip is just the end of the show not some huge political victory!), Him having to state it shows he recognises when someone is trying to run the clock down like that, hoping that they can waffle and time will run out and they can avoid giving a real answer. He knows the games politicians play to avoid giving a straight answer to a straight question.

    We can all agree that the war in Iraq was wrong and those responsible should face legal consequences. That doesn’t negate that what Russia is doing is wrong. They have launched an invasion of a neighbouring country resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands. They are committing genocide, by trying to erase Ukrainian culture and denying that they were ever a country. They’re forcefully deporting children to Russia which is a war crime and why there is a warrant for Putins arrest.

We are caught between a rock and a hard place because we do not condone the increasing deviancy of America but nor do we want to invite the proven oppression of any kind of human secularism. In the example of the ANC we fully understand that yesterday's revolutionaries have become the future oppressors and that currently the justification for corruption and immorality is based on never being able to accept that black supremacy is replacing white supremacy at the actual cost of human dignity and integrity.

    Looking at the eyes & sitting postures of the programme host & the interviewed, I can see the defiance & intimidation in pushing his agenda as host of one side versus the calmness & confidence of South Africa's leaders in responding to pressures as they defend South Africa's independent & correct judgements on international laws & its respective foreign policies on the other side. Good on you, South Africa. You have demonstrated the pride & confidence of Africans to the world.

    You clearly aren't familiar with that programme... it's called 'Hard Talk'... it's not chit chat over tea and biscuits. The whole idea is the interviewer challenges the interviewee for 25 minutes (not the last small section shown here) about the toughest challenges and most thorny issues. He is supposed to chase them down on detail and not accept flippant answers or deflections... and that was all deflectoon ('whatabout this and, whatabout that?' While avoiding giving answers) And having watched that show for over 20 years I can assure you the interviewers go at it just as hard with politicians, leaders, exonomists, ecologists,religious thinkers, intellecruals, etc. from all sides of politics and every country. F W de Clerk, Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela, Mogoeng Mogoeng, Francois Pienaar, Zwelinzima Vavi, Ahmed Kathrada, Hugh Masekela, as well as names like Mickael Gorbachev, Hugo Chavez, Benazir Bhutto, Donald Trump, Ehud Barak, Noam Chomsky... It gets beyond the political slogans and media stereotypes and aims to show more of the real character of the interviewee.

  • @donatwu3128

    @donatwu3128

    @@damianeadie510 Nobody is denying it is not "Hard Talk" & what it should be like. If the host is not consistent with his pledged duties so that he displays the right logics at times & pushes forward double standards at other times, he is being biased because he has an agenda at the back of his mind. One does not need to show defiance & intimidation when the responder is calm, polite & speaking with the right logic in compliance with international laws & standards. In return, the host should use his knowledge & professionalism to tackle any loopholes in the responder's answers, if he can find any, to arrive at the truth. If hosts always behave like this gentleman, we should call the programme "Bully Arena" because it serves more on entertainment than on finding the truth. Mind you, international laws are those recognized by UN, and not some exclusive enforcements by a small group of powerful nations over the whole world.

  • @damianeadie510

    @damianeadie510

    Жыл бұрын

    @@donatwu3128 you really don't get it, especially with your "bully africa" comment which implies the interviewer is somehow racist for asking a politician tough questions about their legal obligations under an international treaty they are part of. Also, the interviewee is not on that show by accident, he knows what the show is and all the South Africans who have been on it over the years. This isn't a conversation with a stranger on a bus, this is planned and he has gone into it knowing exactly how it works. I have already told you on this show they interview EVERYONE like that... and he has interviewed British, European, American, Asian and African leaders equally. Are you suggesting this interviewee needed special treatment, that he wasn't up to the same challenge as everyone else? The interviewer is not a politician and is bound in his employment contract with the BBC, which is legally bound in British law NOT to present a political bias (it is most often criticised as not supporting the British government enough, ita not their mouthpiece and they don't like it!) But that doesn't mean he cannot put criticisms of opponents to a politician and ask him to explain, justify or defend their position. The whole point of a vigorous challenge is to get to the essence of the matter, to hear the politician counter that criticism and shed more light on the matter. No well educated hardend career politician who is acting in good faith for rational reasons would shrink from such questions and start deflecting to whataboutisms or claim they are being bullied.

    Just imagine the arrogance of these people. Justice is a game played by the strong to cheat the weaker ones.

    Africa is not waking up now remeber we defeated colonialism in the 60 and apartheid in the 90s and the war still continues. Its just that there was no social media to show it.

    Hahahaha Africa is a shithole. Come on over and see for yourself. Tonight's news reports in South Africa tell of blacks in a black neighborhood burning their local police station and stoning passing cars. The locals are being harassed by police looking for criminals. No electricity here for up to 10 hours per day and it's getting worse every day.

    If ICC is serious, they should put all us presidents on tge arrest list together with uk PMs and NATO leaders. This always the case no collective western countries leaders ever on the list.

    Joseph Stalin executed 20 million Russians, Chairman Mao executed 78 million Chinese. African leaders are violent, and millions have been executed or starved to death. Have you seen the Africans in little boats drowning trying to get to Europe.😂
