I've bought the rg35xx unsure if thisnjts the plus version but die to be deleted today so hoping it's the plus model due to psp game options but overall it seems a good device

Warning with this device the internal screen is incredibly fragile. It will not survive most falls so be very careful with how to carry it around.

Yep, lots of people buy these devices treating it like a game boy. They are nice, but they are not built anywhere near the same quality as old Nintendo systems. They will break even from a modest 2-3 ft fall.

You got me to subscribe with this one, I recently ordered one and was concerned that I should have got the plus for specifically N64 games. But now that I've seen your review I'll check out other options for N64 games

Yeah I have the 35xxh (same chip and everything and it plays n64 pretty poorly imo. Dreamcast seems fine but I wouldn't get one to play n64 games. Maybe the retroid pocket s2 or something. It's like twice as expensive but it can play n64 just fine and can even do some gamecube and ps2 (though again not all games run very well)

I purchased the RG35XX knowing that the Plus was out, but this is my first time owning a pocket emulator. But the value was insane (25 USD plus 5 shipping with a promo code) at the time of my purchase. This is an excellent entry-level emulator device; it's just super fun. I also don't worry too much about taking it around with me since the price of it was very low. I migrated to a new SD card to avoid the dreaded SD failure I read online.

How do you switch the SD card out?

Id say yes, i also have the 35xxh and even a 405m but i still use the 35xx more than the others simply because of garlicOS. Between the short boot times and auto save/resume no matter what you do its just so user friendly to pick up for a quick game. Like you press the power button and within 10 seconds its booted and automatically continues where you left off. 35xxh default OS or CFW just dont have these creature comforts.

Came to watch the anbernic, personality made me stay. Great review!

I've recently puchased one, I just wanted to use it as a Gameboy/Color clone the form factor is perfect. I'll probably use it for Gba and Snes too.

Literally ordered this over the + earlier today. Its cheaper and all i plan on is playing old pokemon games and rom hacks on it, no need for the + for me.

same kinda thing for me, I watched so many videos and did so much research on the rg35xx, bought it and a month later they came out with the plus.

I have the RG35XX+ and I don't even like playing it because of the State of the custom firmware. If I got the RG35XX I would enjoy playing it because of Garlic. Once we have a stable version of Garlic I think I'll enjoy playing it. But for now I can't recommend a device I don't even enjoy playing. Right now my Miyoo Mini+ blows it out of the water. I suppose I would enjoy the RG35XX+ if I put Minui on it. I love MinUi. But that would just turn it into an RG35XX and I won't be able to use wifi and bluetooth, which ruins the point of getting the +.

Not outdated at all~ I've spent a lot of time reading threads that say the plus isn't worth it just yet so here I am buying my 35xx in 2024 ^-^ This video helped me discover that the OS was "switchable"! I was so peeved at first bc like you mentioned Anbernic started advertising that GarlicOS would be included out of the box and when I started it up, it was the stock OS. The little pamphlet it came with didn't say anything about Garlic or switching so I was like.... Guess I missed the setting when I was exploring. So thx!

At the time of this comment, the original rg35xx has better 3rd party os support and is slightly smaller but not small enough to be too uncomfortable for my hands. I skipped the plus and went straight to the H model because analog sticks. Has the same hardware as the plus and has so much more opportunities to play games that are analog specific e.g. N64.

This device is kind of amazing and i kinda want it (or a Plus) but then I think... theres the Raspberry Pi, the NanoPC, a bunch of others, and heck i can just use my Cell Phone to emulate games (bluetooth controller) i guess i dont know if i'd actually use it.

it's still great! And connected to a crt tv is amazing, with even less latency.

Which version can you play videos, podcasts or mp4(low quality is fine)? Yes i know phones can do it all better but i prefer the tactile and smaller feel of this .

If somehow the piddling monetary difference between the RG35XX and the Plus model is enough for you, then sure, go with the original. But in every other case. _EVERY. OTHER. CASE._ The RG35XX Plus is superior. The dpad is fixed, the shoulder buttons are designed better (to fit with custom mods people had made for the original), it has wifi and bluetooth capabilities and it is more powerful, capable of better emulating games (though keep in mind that external standalone emulators are almost always faster than RetroArch, even though in many cases it's just fine in RetroArch so it doesn't really matter unless you just HAVE to have that 1fps difference). Plain and simple, the RG35XX is only even worth considering because 1) it's *slightly* cheaper and 2) it has had the benefit of long-term custom firmware development. But we're at a good point with the Plus now with custom firmware so 2 isn't really a factor anymore. I mean with MuOS you can run pretty much every single port from Portmaster for the Plus. Games like GTA 3 or Vice City, AM2R, etc. There are a approximately 10+ that don't work, and they're some cool ones, but it's a matter of time before they're available and you've got a shitload of gaming options until then. You cannot run Dreamcast, N64 and PSP games on the original RG35XX, only on the Plus, and while the options are limited since it's not perfect and you may have to sacrifice quality to get certain ones to play at a decent framerate, it's still really cool to have as a bonus option on top of everything else. If you're on a strict budget, I absolutely understand thinking the RG35XX is a good option, because it really is, but if you're just thinking about it because you think you can maybe live with it, don't sacrifice quality and features by going for the outdated model if there's even the slightest possibility that you'll be looking at the greener grass on the other side. Let me tell you that things like RetroAchievements and SFTP functions for wifi transfers instead of popping out your microSD card every five minutes when you're trying to get something working right are things that really go a long way towards making you love your new system.

Just bought the plus and it worked for all of 15 minutes, I put it down to do some chores and when I came back to it it no longer worked. Stuck on an “anbernic” screen

There is zero reason to pick up the plus. The biggest advantage, it's ability to play some N64 and DC is taken away by the lack of an analog stick. Thus, you end up playing 8, 16, and some 32 bit systems, at most up to PS1 (which the original 35XX can do fine) and not much beyond that. Once the 35XXH released, it basically made the plus model obsolete. Has all the same power and the input methods to take advantage of N64/Dreamcast.

The Garlic OS firmware for the original has been discontinued and is no longer being updated. The Plus version has new firmwares that are already great and are continuing to be worked on and updated. The Plus also has WiFi for multiplayer, Bluetooth for controllers a long with HDMI support which is the one thing that the original has. The joystick issue is not that big of a deal, you can easily map the analog controls to the d-pad and there's shortcuts as well that make certain games easier to play. And you can connect to HDMI and just use a Bluetooth analog controller if you wanted. The Plus also has improved shoulder buttons. So its definitely incorrect to say that there are zero reasons to get the Plus.

@@seeniedkit comes with the games. I got it directly from Anbernic RG35xx , lots of games. But it is not recommended to keep the stock SD since they’re very cheap and can give out. I got a new SD card and flashed it with GarlicOS (custom firmware) and downloaded my own Roms. It’s so much better now.

It’s really up to you and which form factor you prefer. All 3 of those have the same specs and can all play Pokémon

Miyoo mini plus is slightly smaller and has WiFi and Bluetooth if that means anything to you. Both are pretty similar in a lot of ways. Personally I think I still prefer the look and feel of the Miyoo

That is an excellent question. It has to do more with the features, performance, specs, quality of the emulation and ROMs. If all you want to do is play old 8-bit and 16-bit games, this thing is pretty much perfect.

May not have specific games you’re looking for, so if not you’ll need to source them yourself (I can’t legally tell you where to find them) Many people do recommend getting your own brand name SD card either way because the included ones are known to fail after awhile
