Thank you! This video bailed me out when my brand new RG353VS's OS micro SD card died when I tried to back up the data to a better Sandisk card (this was right out of the box, mind you!). The 353 wouldn't boot up and I thought it was bricked. Followed your instructions and installed ArkOS on the new sd card. One hint: Most of my Atari, Sega, and Nintendo roms worked right off the bat, but others, like PC Engine didn't. Updated ArkOS and many of the rest of platforms started working! Thanks again for the great vid!

Really simple, thank you for clear guide! I did have to use Balena Etcher to flash the OS onto the card (Win32's flash didn't boot on the RG353) but that was my only hiccup. Hope you do more guides for ArkOS on the RG353! There's so many settings to go through and hotkeys to learn.

Appreciate this. Just got the rg353v and used the stock os for about a week and was curious to see how ark os, which ive read a lot about is. This was very easy and I actually didn't really need to do anything with my 2nd Sd card (with roms) other than follow your direections - i thought I had it would wipe everything and I'd have to at least load the roms back on using my pc, but turns out it just had to move some stuff around I guess and all my games were there. Sick!

Thanks for the tutorial, everything is working well after i finished setting up. only issue was accessing the sdcard to change to V2 for install. The sd card was only readable on a linuxOS, i just used vmware/player to run a linux os. Using the 16gb kioxia exceria sd that came with it. Appreciate the details of possible issues and solutions for the setup!

@@blakebeede5512 I think I would go with the VS because of the cheaper price point. You'll be limited to just the Linux OS, but everything I want to play works great on the Linux side. The only deal breaker would be if you want to play Nintendo DS as the touch screen doesn't work on linux, only Android. So if Nintendo DS is a priority, a person might want to pay a bit more for the dual boot feature of the V.

in windows 11 you have to install mini tool partition wizard and go to the ":BOOT" partition and assign it a drive letter.

Your video is fantastic thank you. My new sandisk card, after installing ArkOS and inserting, showed black screen so i followed your steps to rename V1 file however my boot folder doesn't have a v2 file like your videos shows. Not sure what else to do.

Thanks for the comment. Not sure why the v2 file would be missing. Maybe file extensions are hidden on your OS? If you're on Windows, you can open file manager and go to the view tab at the top and there should be a "File name extensions" checkbox that should be checked. Alternatively you could try downloading the v2 file from this link and adding it to your boot partition manually: otggaming.com/rk3566-OC.dtb.v2

Hello! thanks a lot for the tutorials! Really helped me in these days, especially enjoied the skraper one! =) Everything worked perfectly for this one, just having some trouble scraping now. It downloads the box arts, then after i restart the emulation station, also tried restarting the system, nothing happens and box art not appearing. Any idea why is that happening? I tried using DB method and screenscraper too as i have an account. Edit: ok I managed to solve the problem. Maybe its an update, but after downloading the box arts with scraper, for each core in the games list, pressing Select you have to chose the view style and set it to Detailed. Looks great!

Heads up for all the new people like me in 2024. I had to replace the DTB file mentioned in the Github post to get it to work. Mine loaded up fine the first time but then the numbers were fuzzy and it wouldn't do anything

appreciate the vid1 came out just in time. when i extract the rom. it just has a folder with a page in it. is that folder what oyu just add? i saw your files where different looking.

Hi there! Are you referring to the .img file that you extract from the downloaded zip ? If so, then yes. You just need to write that image to your SD card using Win32 disk imager or a similar program. Let me know how it goes :)

Win32Disk Imager and USB Image Tool both change the sd card file system to RAW rendering it unreadable, regardless of how the SD card was formatted prior. I can only view the contents using a 3rd party software but I can’t edit anything

Hi There! If you're on Windows 11, some have had issues accessing the boot partition. A workaround that has been suggested is to install MiniTool Partition Wizard: www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html You can use it to access the boot partition and assign it a drive letter so you can open it normally in Windows 11.

My 16GB card was Kioxia but the 256gb one is something generic. Am I able to just drag everything from the old one to a folder on my PC and copy it over to the new card without issues or is there a certain process to this?

Yep, you should be able to move everything from the 256GB card to a new card. You'll just want to make sure that the new card is formatted as Exfat or NTFS. Also, you'll want to go into the ArkOS options and select "Switch to SD2 for Roms."

Do you also have a video with how to instal basic files for the tf2 micro sd card? My anbernic sd card with 512gb doesnt work anymore. Those basic files are corrupted. I would like to buy a new sd card, and instal basic files into it, from the ANBERNIC RG353V. Can you please help?

Any idea how to handle a 2.0 with the newest version of ARkOS? There doesn't seem to be a 'v2' DTB file anymore, but I am getting that bad boot screen

Thanks, I appreciate that! Frankly, the default OS on the 353V is probably the best that Anbernic has come up with to date and it's not really necessary for the average user to upgrade if they are enjoying the device as stock. The benefits of a custom OS, like ArkOS, is that the developers are much more active in adding new features and squeezing as much performance out of the device as possible. So I would say that basically ArkOS is better suited for power users who really like to tinker with settings, but the default OS is just fine for those whose only concern is just to play games. The SD card can definitely be bigger. I find that 64GB is a nice baseline that will hold a ton of cartridge based games as well as a few CD-based games before storage becomes an issue. If you plan on adding quite a few CD-based, then a bigger 128GB or 256GB card is the better option.

Hey Does anyone know what key or function to change so that the virtual keyboard does not appear under another key in the amiga system? In the old amiga game Pinballfatasis under the function of the right bounce of the ball, the virtual keyboard is still showing me. Yeah can't play :(

I'm seeing this issue with more and more RG353s and I'm not sure why it's becoming so common. The only thing I've seen fix it is trying a different SD card, if you have one available. Otherwise, a number of folks have switched over to JELOS with no further problems.

From what I understand, GarlicOS doesn't use a true sleep function. When you hit the power button while in-game, it takes a save state and powers off. When you power back on, it loads the last game you were in with that save state. It sounds like you're device hasn't fully powered down, but if you hold down the power button the unit should eventually cycle off and the LED should also turn off.

Where do you download the games? Or is there a way to tranfer all the games from the old SD card to the new one?

My pleasure! If I understand correctly, you want to use the stock 2nd card ROMs with ArkOS? I haven't personally tried it but I'm fairly certain it should work. I believe the folder structure is the same, so ArkOS should see the ROMs on the 2nd card. The ArkOS wiki has a nice section with the folder names that it looks for when finding ROMs. You could double check it to make sure all the folder names match up with the stock 2nd card: github.com/christianhaitian/arkos/wiki/ArkOS-Emulators-and-Ports-information

Do you have a different SD card you could try? Often when ArkOS won't load using a different SD card will fix it.

It comes with the sad chips one that’s 16gb and the second that’s 64gb i know the first one is for the system my question is can i use a different as chip for the second one? Can i get a higher gb sd chip like 128 gb?

So I do the read the roms to 2nd sd card, then when I put that card into my computer there's nothing on it. There's none of those folders with all the supported emulators on it. What am I doing wrong?

hi this tutorial is super helpful but I currently have arkOS showing up on the screen and it's been 30 minutes since I set it up and it hasn't loaded anything do you know if there is anything else I should do?

Greetings, so glad you found the video helpful :) There could be a number of reasons why ArkOS is not reading your games. A few things to check: 1) Make sure that they are in a supported rom format. 2) Also double check to make sure that they are in the correct rom folders (for both this and point 1 you can use the ArkOS wiki to verify the supported rom formats and the folders they should go in: github.com/christianhaitian/arkos/wiki/ArkOS-Emulators-and-Ports-information). 3) Some games won't launch if the corresponding BIOS for the console is not in the BIOS folder on the SD card. If you want to find a pretty comprehensive list of BIOS files you can google search for "RetroArch BIOS Pack"

Your video is perfect step by step makes it so easy, but when i downloaded the arkos file and look at it it is different then yours. Mine does not have a “.v2” file at all. When i put it in my rg353v it says arkos and then goes black screen. Ive used 3 different sandisk cards and happen to all of them. Is there a different arkos file to download?

I managed to get ARKos running on the console, but had to buy a new SD card for slot 2, is there any way of saving the games that were on the old slot 2 or do I have to re-download any games I want?

Hi got quick question, i recently installed ark os on my rg353vs, when i turn off the screen, the led light is this on. how to turn it off without completely shutting it down? In stock OS the led light is off when the console is on sleep mode only

That is how it works on my install as well. The green led stays on when in sleep mode. I believe that's the intended behavior.

so whenever i try to use the imaging tool it starts the process the error codes and says the device isn’t found or that it doesn’t have access. it then stops the imaging but for some reason the sd card still has all the stuff on it? how do i deal with this

Is there a way to save all of the games that came installed on the SD cards that came with the console? Mine won’t save in-game out of the box, so it looks like I’m going to do this.
