    I dig it. The RBG30 and its square screen is one of the most unique devices in recent memory, but it's got just enough downsides that I bet a bunch of people didn't jump on it and are ready for something a little safer and more reputable that'll also pack a little more punch. I'm a little concerned about that d-pad but if it's solid and precise I suspect this is gonna be a winner.

    @@BoKnowsGaming the only thing is, the games this screen (and the rgb30) are meant for: gameboy, gameboy advance, Pico8, arcade shoot em ups etc, don't need any more power than what the rgb30 has. All the games that will benefit from this style screen ( vertical ) don't need that much power.

    @@BoKnowsGaming dual screen for 3DS on here will still be pretty small won't it? You will have to switch between them then. Also didn't the RG556 struggle with more 3D intensive 3DS games. Soz not trying to be contrary just wondering about that aspect of it now

  • @BoKnowsGaming

    The RG556 did struggle with a lot of 3DS games, but I think that can improve somewhat over time with updates. The dual screens will definitely be small, but playing DS on the RGB30 is significantly larger and easier to see than it is on something like the RG353V. And you can toggle screens when you want. I think it's a mostly good experience. But I can understand people's concern about 1:1 displays. I'm just trying to look at the bright side. 🙂

    so which handhelds and consoles would be suited for a square display?

  • @BoKnowsGaming

    @BoKnowsGaming

    Ай бұрын

    Good question. It's. a pretty untraditional display size. A lot of people will run NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. in 8:7 instead of 4:3. It fills the screen more with minimal stretching and can look really good. You could even do that with some 4:3 Gamecube and PS2 games here. GameBoy and GameBoy Color are almost 1:1 already and will look great on this. Pico-8 is 1:1 and looks fantastic. But also the Nintendo DS has more room to breathe with the dual displays stacked in a 1:1 space. And so do vertical arcade games. Those can look quite nice.

    I think ANBERNIC should have just made the Cube a Linux instead of Android. I can't see myself using Android on a 1:1 4 inch display, it's too small a display for Android in my opinion.

  • @BoKnowsGaming

    @BoKnowsGaming

    Ай бұрын

    Yeah... I prefer linux. But this isn't the first time they've done this. The 353V has a 3.5 inch 4:3 display. The 405V has a 4 inch 4:3 display. And both of those run Android. There are others as well. My speculation is that Android is much easier for them because it's open source and already built versus their stock linux OS which they have to outsource the build of and usually isn't that great.

    @@BoKnowsGaming Well, I can understand Android running on 4:3 aspect ratio displays. It's the 1:1 aspect ratio displays that I don't recommend using Android on. all this has is more power that you don't need for what the screen is designed for. You are just throwing your money away for the chipset that isn't needed. Plus the rgb30 looks more comfortable.

  • @MrSlowestD16
    @MrSlowestD16Ай бұрын

    It's kinda frustrating b/c so many of us love the idea of the powkitty RGB30 but powkitty makes hot garbage and it sounds like the charging situation there is a dumpster fire. So a quality version of that would have been cool, and I *thought* we'd get that with this. But we didn't. We got some weird that + RP4 power-house that's twice the price of the RGB30, overpowered for a 1:1 screen and now all the 4:3 goodness will have large bezels and it'll only be 3.5" usable, so IDK what to think anymore... Oh, and it'll get 0 homebrew support b/c Android. I think I'll probably get it, because I want a 1:1 for GBC and powkitty sucks, but it feels like such a waste.

  • @BoKnowsGaming

    The RGB30 is one of few Powkiddy devices that isn’t hot garbage. It’s not perfect, and charging can be frustrating sometimes, but it’s the first device they’ve made where I really feel they put their best foot forward and tried to make something great. I do agree it may have too much power for a 1:1, and I’m not a big fan of Android on these handhelds. I prefer Linux. But that’s just a personal preference. There are pros and cons to each. Thanks for watching! 🙂

  • Ай бұрын

    the rgb30 is quite good actually. Don't believe everything you read. I have 3 rgb30's (2 I gave away to friends as gifts. All 3 charge great. The only problem is if you use a 2amp charger. You need a 1amp or a 1.5 amp and it charges very reliably. People keep using fast chargers and the battery charging system just doesn't like it and then they complain.....

  • @BoKnowsGaming

    @BoKnowsGaming

    Yes. You have to use a “slow” charger on most of these handhelds. Especially the budget ones. But it’s fine. I don’t mind.

  • @MrSlowestD16

    @MrSlowestD16

    Ай бұрын

    Yeah I don't have 1st hand experience, but it's something most handheld reviewing channels mentioned, and if it was par for the course with cheap Chinese handhelds, I'd think they not mention it, as it's not mentioned in most other handhelds of this ilk (like for example, Anbernic). Don't believe everything you read, sure, but if everybody is mentioning it, there's probably something to it. IIRC people were also having issues using standard USB cords (not the power inverter, the actual cord), saying the supplied cord worked but others did not. And also recall people commenting that it charged OK in certain modes, but not others (eg. sleep?). Forgot the details there, but people were putting it into a specific state deliberately prior to charging. Then there's the battery meter, what I understand might as well be random. So maybe me calling it "hot garbage" is too far, but there's a lot of problems there that most people comment on which simply aren't a thing with other comparable hand-helds, and for me that kind of stuff is more than I care to deal with. I don't ask much, but I just want charging to work, always, and I want the battery lvl to be accurate, always.

    @@BoKnowsGaming That's fair, by Powkitty standards it def. seems like a deliberate step in the right direction, but I think they still have a fair bit to go to catch up to anbernic or AYN or RP or whatever in terms of quality. Yeah, nobody is really a fan of Android in the handheld scene it seems, you're not alone in that. I think part of it has to do with modability, nobody has Linux builds for the T618 or T820 it seems, and IDK how hard it is to get the drivers from Unisoc but nobody seems willing to hand-roll a distro for one, so generally no Ark/Garlic/Onion/whatever for them unless they use a 3566. Another part is that the front-end for Android has to be set up by the end user, so you don't get a nice emulation station style list with everything, need to set that all up, which isn't fun. In general it seems like the Android based devices don't really get love, so I'm really curious to see what happens with this one. I'm warming up to this idea after a day or few, so we'll see. The plus side of Android is that DP->HDMI will likely "just work" instead of the common Linux custom distro statement of "HDMI out doesn't work yet" or having to restart with HDMI plugged in or whatever. So that allows you to use a bigger screen when at a desk or whatever. IDK, we'll see what initial reviews say when people start getting it in their hands.
