My super varmint in 308 is the most ridiculously straight shooting rifle ever. 150gr Hornady Whitetail consistently sub-MOA. Then 175gr Federal Premium consistently shoot .5-.75 MOA. An outstanding rifle.

New subscriber. Eager to see future videos. I have purchased the MT Tikka long action bolt stops. Until 2022 all of my rifles were custom built. Bought my first Tikka in 308 on clearance (left hand). It did not shoot quite to my satisfaction so I put a Brux barrel on it and got an AG Composite stock. However, since then I have purchased another 15-16 Tikka rifles. They shoot so well I've been selling my custom rifles. Pros: ONE LENGTH ACTION - can convert either way. Best triggers on the market. Simply no need to buy a Bix & Andy or similar, just buy the after market spring and they can get down to about a pound. Other easy upgrade is the Limbsaver recoil pad. I did buy a new T3x lite stainless LH 300WM (actually 2), converted one to a 7PRC with a Stocky's stock and Proof pre-fit barrel, and of course, trigger spring. Total still less that $2000 including gunsmith fee to switch barrels.

Understandably!

I have a stainless Tikka T3X with gray laminate stock. With oil based lubricants the stainless action can feel sticky. I washed all the lube out and switched to a graphite based lube. What a difference. It is so slick. Mmmm, Mmmm good! And it is the most accurate rifle I own. Oh, and I mounted my scope using a Mountain Tactical picatinny rail.

FYI - The Veil and Rouchtek have the Tikka D18 barrel which looks very much like the Sako Medium counter fluted barrel... ;) Money well spent!!

Just yesterday I got a Roughtech in stainless, popped it into an XLR Element 4.0 Magnesium chassis. Can't wait to take it to the range to see whether it shoots as good as it looks.

The UPR is a CTR in a fiberglass stock. The magazine is not compatible with a PRC, unfortunately... you could convert it to AICS mags and run PRC mags then. That would be a sick stick!

I would love to hear your thoughts on the Tikka Arctic. I can't remember if they sold many in the states, but I know they hit stores here in Canada and a few other markets.

That is a great rifle! The iron sights are my favorite part. If we could get them in the States, we would have one for sure.

The Creedmoor feeds great out of our short action mags. We have 5 shop rifles in 6.5 Creedmoor running billet mags. If you're having issues, check out our mag trouble shooting video. That solves 95% of your issues.

Super Varmint also comes with a two stage trigger.

Great video thank you. Only issue I’ve come across is the tikka .223 1:8 shorter barrel (20”)does not stabilise the majority of factory ammo above 55gn. It’s a terribly unreliable barrel with the longer pills. I can’t understand why tikka still make it considering the feedback. On the other hand, 24” 1:8 .223 = perfection.

Our 1:8 223s are all 24 or 22 inch barrels so we have not experienced that. At 20 inches, a 1:7 twist would be optimal

Tons of guys are chopping their 8 twist 223s down and shooting 73, 75, and 77gr bullets. I have a 17.5 inch one that shoots 75 and 77s very well.

Jason, with all your experience with the T3x’s can you tell me if the Varmint in 6.5 Creedmoor is any more accurate in the Super Varmint over the standard T3x Varmint with 24” barrel. I am really looking for the accuracy over all the weather protection and trying to find out if the barrels are pretty much going to produce the same groups under identical conditions. Thanks

This is a great question! From a functional accuracy standpoint, these two rifles will perform exactly the same. The action, barrel, etc, are identical. The advantage the Super Varmint has is the adjustable stock, which will allow you to customize the fit of the rifle to your body. The better a rifle fits you, the better you will shoot. Additionally, the Super Varmint has a two stage trigger, which some people shoot better than a single stage trigger. Ultimately, the rifles are identical from a raw function standpoint. The Super Varmint may fit you better, making you shoot better. Let me know if that makes sense.

Thanks, you gave me the information I was looking for! I have the T3x Varmint in .223 and it fits me very well and with your trigger spring I was able to get the trigger under 1lb. I use it for my 400 yard matches and the accuracy is incredible. Our club is extending the range out past 600 yards and as I already reload for the 6.5 CM though this would be a good choice! Thanks again...

I was under the impression the CTR mags won't fit a trg22, but a trg22 mag will fit a CTR bottom metal. The extra material at the bottom keeps it from inserting into the Sako. Also, aren't the Veil models using stainless, while the normal roughtechs are using the regular carbon steel used on the blued versions? The Veil being stainless is a pretty big difference.

The Veiled rifles are cerakote on carbon steel. Still a great value. The CTR mags have a plastic bottom versus steel. Since TRG22 mags are used by militaries around the world, some countries do not allow them. So Tikka changed the base plate to comply with those laws.

And he even included other models with black cerakote barrels, that I didn’t know were stainless. Interesting. I appreciate your company and videos. I wish it was easier to tell what I’m buying.

Tikka has said both, unfortunately. Most that we have seen started as stainless. At the end of the day, it really does not matter because Cerakote is better at preventing corrosion than plain stainless.

Are you going to offer longer OAL 223 mags again?

How similar is the t3x lite veil wideland to the roughtech? Is it the same heavier contour barrel with fluting like the roughtech?

Great question! The barrels are identical. Both are fluted to shave weight. The Veil is Cerakoted to match the hydro-dip on the stock. The Veils and Roughtechs are the best value, in my opinion, if you do not want to build a custom Tikka. Out of the box, they have all the features a hunter would want.

What is the exact difference inbarrel contour between the T3x lite and the roughtec if both are .300WM.?

The Roughtech barrel profile is slightly heavier than the Lite profile. Tikka used to make a rifle called the Continental Varmint which had a magnum weight barrel like the 24" CTR. This is the same profile Tikka uses on the Roughtechs

@@mountaintacticalcompany I really don´t think you are right about that. The roughtec barrel is thinner than that on the CTR. The old Varmint´s had thicker barrels than a CTR. According to Tikka They have Ø18, CTR and Varmint profiles. Unfortunately no numbers. If you could present some exact measurements that would be great 👍

The M595 Continental Varmint had a lighter barrel than the T3 Varmint. Everyone who knows Tikkas knows this. The Roughtech has the same muzzle diameter as the CTR. It has the same profile. It is fluted though. KZread does not have the ability to upload barrel blueprints. However, since we work with 15,000 Tikkas per year, I am confident that the barrel profile is the same.

@@mountaintacticalcompany By older Varmint i meant the varmint models before the new super varmint with ceracote. I never mentioned anything about the old 595, since i´m only interested in the newer T3x´s. I think the barrel on a roughtec is Ø18mm, like the ones they use on the Sako S20. The CTR being slightly thicker with Ø18.795mm. Are you Jason?

This is Jason. And I can assure you any contour difference you see would be related to barrel length, not the contour. Our muzzle brakes designed to blend with the CTRs blend perfectly with the Roughtechs

Great question! It's a T3x CTR with a fiber glass stock instead of the polymer stock. Everything else is the same.

Cool - I appreciate my T3x Laminated Stainless, which, by the way, was left out completely from this video as an available model, and offers additional weather resistance, stability of the stock through changes in humidity, and arguably a bit more mass in the stock to absorb recoil.
