Anatomy of the knee joint, simplified sketches

After completion of this video session, it is expected that you will be able to
Identify the shape of the tibial and patellar articular surfaces on the distal end of the femur.
Identify the proximal end of the tibia and its features: the tibial plateaus, intercondylar eminence, intercondylar area, tibial tuberosity, medial and lateral condyles
List and identify the factors involved in the stability of the knee: bone, muscles, and ligaments.
Describe the components of the knee joint:
ligaments: ligamentum patellae, collateral ligaments, cruciate ligaments, oblique popliteal, arcuate popliteal, coronary and transverse ligaments.
bursae: suprapatellar, prepatellar, infrapatellar, semimembranosus, gastrocnemius, and popliteus
special structures: menisci, tendon of popliteus, infrapatellar fat pad
movements: passive locking and active unlocking
Identify the attachments and understand the function of popliteus muscle in unlocking of the knee.
Describe the anatomical structures and forces that are involved in the "unhappy triad" of the knee.
Explain the anatomical basis of anterior and posterior drawer tests
Describe the functional anatomy of the menisci.
Explain the differences between the medial and lateral menisci, collateral ligaments, cruciate ligaments.
Explain Housemaid's knee, Clergyman's knee and Baker's cyst
Presented and edited by Dr. Akram Jaffar, Ph.D.

As far as I can tell, the image on the right is of the left knee, whereas the images on the left are of the right knee. It would be helpful for me if it was all the same knee, so I could more easily visualize my own knee without having to switch back and forth. Excellent video though, thank you!

knee joint hinge or condylar joint ?

The tibio femoral part of the knee joint is basically a hinge joint. Some textbooks refer to it as a modified hinge having some characteristics of a condylar joint because it allows a minimum degree of medial and lateral rotation during flexion of the knee. It is basically a hinge
