Anathema - Temporary Peace

Музыка

Deep inside the silence
Staring out upon the sea
The waves washing over
Half forgotten memories
Deep within the moment
Laughter floats upon the breeze
Rising and falling dying down within me
And i swear i never knew how it could be
And all this time all i had inside was what i couldn't see
I swear i never knew how it could be
All the waves washing over all that hurts inside of me
Beyond this beautiful horizon
Lies a dream for you and i
This tranquil scene is still unbroken by the rumors in the sky
But there's a storm closing in
Voices crying on the wind
This serenade is growing colder breaks my soul that tries to sing
And there's so many many thoughts
When i try to go to sleep
But with you i start to feel a sort of temporary peace
There's a drift in and out... ... ...

Around 2:30 You will enjoy a feeling of happines yet it will be somber along with sadness which is a rare kind of emotion in humans. You are special and so is this music.

Such an underrated song... It transports me to memories I've never lived, dreams I've never dreamt, but somehow they chill me to the bone. An euphoria of happiness simultaneous with deepest melancholy. A sentiment of loss so bleak that your psyche forces you to turn a blind eye, ignore it, as if its reality is too harsh for you to handle. Your brain knows this, and protects your sanity by keeping it out forcefully. Shut out. Yet you feel it in the air, as if the ether were whispering to you (you can barely -- but not quire -- make out the murmurs) an omnipresent truth that you somehow forgot, like a childhood memory that resurfaces suddenly, irrevocably breaking your temporary peace.

I was just back from exam season to spend a few weeks with my folks. I was exhausted, and immediately fell sick when I got home. I remember one particular night when I was already on the mend. It was one of those stormy February nights, the wind and rain buffeting our house, no one out on the streets. I was playing my favourite videogame while listening to this song. My mom walked in with warm milk and cookies, and I was enveloped by this strange feeling of complete serenity sprinkled with little dots of nostalgia and melancholy. Looking back, it's like I realized at that moment that this was as easy and cozy as my life would ever be.

This is just Anathema. Nothing like it. It's beautiful, but still raises some tension, some insecure feeling. Just Anathema. I do not try to make Pink Floyd or other comparisons, because Anathema is very original and stands it's own ground through the years. There are genuine reasons for this, one of them being their doom metal roots I suppose. This song like every next to come after carries that burden. How amazing that they were able to pull off an album like Distant Satelites in 2014, after all these years of creation. The track "Anathema" from this album is telling this story to me, when I think of it as a retrospective thought about what they went through. So much emotional, serious and beautiful music from this great band. It's been about 2 or 3 years now that I discover their work and it's still just a handful of albums I got to know so far.
