Somaliland and Somalia had so far been engaged in 12 internationally observed meetings in Djibouti, UAE, Turkey and UK to discuss how best to agree on way forward. Sadly, they have all been fruitless, because of Somalia's weak governance arrangement and clan driven agenda.

Somaliland have a it's colonial boundary, Somaliland take its independent Britain 1960 26 June, Somaliland also Hava a one man one vote, free elections, it's constitution, it's own money, flag, so there is nothing wrong with dealing Ethiopia? These Memorandum just need more discussion and examine, no rush at all, But one thing is important Ethiopia had a previous agreement with former Somalia president Mr. Farmaajo which he signed 4 ports to Ethiopia. That is not denible and gives full authorization if federal government claims any rights that Ethiopia to join Somaliland deal. So it's done .

The Somaliland case is different and not secessionism. In fact, historically Somaliland is older than Somalia. On the contrary, Somaliland has never been part of Somalia but Somaliland and Somalia tried to form a union after the colonial independence. Somaliland gained independence. British on 26 June 1969 while Somalia got independence on 1 July 1960. The two countries tried to form a unitary state called the Somali Republic but failed in the first place when Somaliland rejected the referendum of the union in 1963. From there, Somalia completely overpowered and wiped out Somaliland's history until Somaliland deposed Somalia in 1991 ever since the two countries went in different directions. Somalia become for the last 30 years the most failed state in the world. While Somaliland becomes the most democratic state in East Africa. Somaliland has legal rights to be re recognised.

Africa wake up, you know Somaliland was recognized before Somalia

It's very sad to have someone that is not familiar with somaliland's history is giving a chance to cover the story. If he did his homework he would know that Somaliland is within its original Colonial boundaries and that it was a formal British protectorate that formed a union with Somalia a formal Italian colony and it was called the Somali Republic. The union was dissolved in 1991 where each country went its separate way Somaliland became the Democratic Republic of Somaliland... Somalia became the federal of Somalia and the agreement is no longer valid.

There are so many regions in Ethiopia who are fighting for independence, does that mean Ethiopia is going to grant their independence?

The regions in Ethiopia who want an independent state cannot be equated with Somaliland which received its independence from Britain in 1960 and willfully joined their brothers in Somalia. Don’t confuse the two and don’t look at this case with tribal lens. Look at it as international borders. Somalia has the option of accepting the inevitable and build a brotherly relationship with somaliland and not forcing it.

If Ethiopia is interested in the sea port for trade of which they have 19 % of Port of berbera agreement why do they want to have a military base in somalia? Is that not a sinister move of a bad neighbors?

Ethiopia is not smart enough to know this; Africans should keep the borders as they were 1960, otherwise an other waves of separatist movements can rise up even inside Ethiopia. We Somalis know this.

The biggest antiblack antiAfrican US international poltical mistake of 20th century is US poltical support for Ethiopia"s bteakup and loss of its ancient Red Sea coastal lands and ports. All Western powers and almost all Arab countries supported anti government Ethiopian rebels for several decades and engineered the fall of Ethiopia's military government in 1991 and allowed Eritrea( Ethiopia's ancient Red Sea lands) to be an indipendent country. There is no moral ground for US, European Union, and Arab countries to oppose the business deal between Ethiopia and Somaliland. All Africans and black people of the world should support Ethiopia's peaceful effort to access the ports in Somaliland. Anyone opposed to Ethiopia's agreement with Somaliland should also derecognize Eritrea as a nation and tell Eritrean government to lose their sovereignty.

Somaliland is not part of Somalia. Somaliland gained its independence from the UK on June 26, 1960, and united with Somalia. Three decades of civil war and the loss of many lives of Somalilanders after the country regained its sovereignty in 1991. Moreover Somaliland has made numerous bilateral agreements with the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom without any coordination with Mokadisho, so this agreement is just as valid as any other. Somalia cannot stop this agreement.

You said the AU has not recognized Somaliland because of the longstanding policy of not interfering with the boundaries left by the colonialists. This does not apply to Somaliland got its independence in 26 of June 1960. It was recognized by thirty five countries that included Egypt, China, Ethiopia, France, Ghana, Israel , Libya and the Soviet Union. They then united with Somalia on 1st July 1960 without any conditions. The union didn’t work as Somaliland was regarded as any other province of Somalia and their rights were usurped. They then took back their independence so the reason given by the AU is lame.

Actually, Somaliland and Somalia both had recognized borders on 1960 when they formed the union, so that clause of AU (respecting 1960 colonial borders) would not apply to Somaliland as it was an independent country, but the problem is, AU, just as most of it's members are, is not a place where facts matter, otherwise, it would have treated the issue of Somaliland and Somalia as two states that formed a failed union and for the good of both people and Horn of Africa, Somaliland's decision to pull out of this failed union must be respected. Not doing so, means just a cause for more fighting, unstability and suffering for both people and the region. It's unfortnate and not fair for both people of Somaliland and Somalia, an important matter like this to be left on the hands of this body. This union's Human and Peoples' rights stipulates thar " freedom, equality, justice and dignity are essential objectives for the achievement of the legitimate aspirations of the African peoples". Why then not respecting the rights, the dignity and the anspiration of people of Somaliland? Why holding Somaliland hostage and denying their rights!

War won’t benefit any one . By trying to grab part of Somalia , Ethiopia is making a fatal mistake . With all the internal conflict and violence , it’s worsening diplomatic raw with Eritrea , it’s is a big mistake for Ethiopia to add Somalia to its list of enemies.

MOU between Ethiopia and Somaliland state is NULL AND VOID. Somaliland state of Somalia is part of Somalia and it can't make such agreement. Ethiopia broke the warm relationship with Somalia at moment and forgot the history between the two countries. Ethiopia wants to take over Somali sea for good not for renting or business partnership that is not possible. Ethiopia should stay away from Somali sea. If they want to use port for business purposes, let them continue to use Berbera Port without problem.

Somalia never been colonised, but they were invaded by the European countries but the fought back not a day have the surrendered just like Afghanistan, the land that was invaded is called SOMALIA Those who invaded are the Greeks and the British and the Italians and the French who invaded a land that is 60% Somali and 50% Afar. The British invaded Juba land and Barbara, while the Italians invaded Barbara 1915 kicked out the British but the British recapture. The tribes that fought with the British were the Ogaden and Dhulbahante in Somaliland while the Isaaq were working with the British even lead the British army to Juba land. Read the Book's that has been written by the British Empire such as Madmuller or Through Juba land. The idea that Isaq uniting with the south is complete joke..

The terms of unity were immediately violated by Somalia, particularly power sharing where among other things the 1st two presidents and the first two prime ministers were taken by Somalia. Then just when things started more fair and for the first time Somaliland was given the post of prime minister in 1969, the military made a coup within months to sabotage this. From there started 20 years of oppression which became finally a massive genocidal campaign to the people of Somaliland. Without grievance of all this happened. people of Somaliland came together and made their minds. This has resulted the Somaliland people to disband the union and restore its lost sovereignty in 1991, by declaring the Republic of Somaliland to restore their independence. Since then Somaliland has been peaceful, independent and democratic country. Ever since the reclamation of its freedom, Somaliland neutral did not interfere Somalia affairs, where the later has done all sorts of things to aggravate Somaliland. Now Somaliland has became tired of the fruitless talks with Somalia (13 rounds over the last decade), therefore its compelled to take a different approach after 63 years of destruction and wasted time.
