No player completes their contract anymore… their contracts are re-negotiated with one to maybe two years left on their deal. The only players who play out their contracts in World Football are older players, on their way out, or players who have secret agreements with other clubs to sign on a free. It’s disingenuous of Shaka to try to explain, that what Kylian is doing is innocent and honorable. We know what he’s doing.. it’s only speculation if your head is in the clouds.

This story with mbappe and psg feels similar to the one with Ardian Rabiot back in 2018-19. He refused to sign any contract extentions for psg and wanted to leave on a free once his contract ran out. PSG accused him of being disrespectful and proceeded to bench him "indefiniteley" and wouldn't let him play unless he signed a new contract. I think he later won a legal case over psg not paying a bonus they owed him

Mbappe played Madrid to get a huge deal out of PSG. Then he wants to sit out the PSG contract to go to Madrid for free in order to also get a chunk out of what Madrid would otherwise have had to pay in transfer fees to PSG. Mbappe is essentialy robbing PSG and using Madrid to do so.

This saga is quite delightful. The club had it comin. I still remember Manchester United having to sell a 2-time UCL finalist in a row, 1 time Ballon d’or Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid because it was his dream. Now we see PSG, After having destroy French football, facing trouble because they refused to sell to Real Madrid a French Player when they had the chance.

PSG has been turned into a company instead of a club. They're treating their players like Worker Bees like corporations do. Mbappe is well within his rights to not want to sign a deal but the club is behaving like greedy corporations. Wanting A year notice when they would'nt give the same.

Mbappe just wants to honor his contract

There's never really been a real project going on at PSG and some of the decisions and their obsession with money and marketing is part of why PSG are in such a big mess and it shows the lack of structure and discipline around the club. For Neymar, they literally overspent for him, paying 222 million on one individual when what PSG were supposed to do from a footballing perspective was use that money to focus on other areas in their squad to make a team able to compete in Europe, and in Neymar they thought they were getting a generational talent that would finally carry them to champions league glory, but instead a player who gets injured at the worst possible times, is always linked with a return to Barcelona, and have wanted to get rid of him for a long time now and I get it he's a superstar and wanted to bring him over for a lot of money, but overpaid for a player who's never fit and doesn't want to be there. When you're in a good position financially in terms of what makes sense for the football project and also the younger players, is spend the money for him not too much and then build your team around him, that wasn't the right approach paying that much money which by the way has changed the perspective of transfers in football and has messed up the market a little as clubs are paying that much money for players who aren't worth their value and PSG are never paying that much money for an individual. For me, I never liked the way in which they handled this Kylian Mbappe big contract last year as it was inappropriate and showed absolute stupidity and how the owners care more about money and stars rather than footballing success. For years, Kylian Mbappe has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and has wanted to play for their club literally every summer and in order to convince him to stay, PSG gave him a contract extension that was too hard for him to turn down even though he's wanted to leave for a while and was gonna leave for Real Madrid regardless. The handling of this contract extension made no sense, because Mbappe getting all that money allowed him to believe that he's bigger than the club and he had all the authority which allowed him to run the club. He's a player and for many people criticized the way Mbappe was given that contract last year as really on a proper squad like Manchester City or Real Madrid, I'm sorry they're never giving an individual too much money or authority. When they presented the contract extension, Mbappe on the PSG jersey it said 2025, but the details of this extension was a 2 year extension with the option for an extra year and Mbappe was allowed to decide whether he was gonna trigger it or not. Now that he doesn't want to do that, you're literally trying to force him out when 12 months ago, both parties agreed on this and how has this been betrayal when the whole footballing world for years have known that Kylian Mbappe would end up at Real Madrid at some point PSG have known this too so has everybody in that squad, they're acting like he did something wrong, ok his comments were unacceptable but still Kylian Mbappe has every right to see out the final year of his contract and run it down and go to Real Madrid on a free next year, it affects them financially because they paid 180 million for him, and he leaving for nothing means that they won't be able to recoup some of the money they paid for him. In order to force him to make a decision, he wasn't in the preseason squad and they have made it clear that they'll bench him for the entire season and they're allowed to do that but it just tells you that this contract extension was pointless and they have always had power not Mbappe but decided to give an individual so much authority. What we've seen behind the scenes at PSG and how things have played out, even under a new manager, they're still the circus that we've become accustomed to and it'll end very soon, but it just tells you how weak of a club PSG have handled their business over the years.

Hes not required to sign another contract with PSG if he does not wish too, and them trying strongarm tactics to get him to do so, make them look bad.

Only a few players have power. The rest are at the mercy of the club and manager.

Attorney here. Mbappe is allowed to fulfill his contract. PSG is NOT allowed to bench Mbappe in order to coerce him into accepting a contract extension because that would be a breach of the implied covenant of good faith. (Similarly, if Mbappe wanted to leave, but PSG insisted he stay - like Tottenham with Kane - Mbappe could not just sit on the pitch and refuse to play during the game to force a transfer.) Mbappe clearly has not made any enforceable commitment that he would not leave for free otherwise PSG would not be trying to renegotiate the contract. Whether Mbappe said verbally that he wouldn't leave on a free transfer is irrelevant. Agreements like this one that involve hundreds of millions of euros are VERY CAREFULLY negotiated and drafted. Every provision in this contract was analyzed. Neither party would simply rely on a verbal commitment that is worth hundreds of millions of euros if it was not enforceable.

It's leave this summer OR extend the one more year to 2025 as agreed with freedom to leave to anywhere in the summer of 2024..and he keeps refusing because he wants; get the money from PSG and the huge signing bonus from Real Madrid in 2024....I say..bench the brat for the entire season..

PSG wants to get much money off him and Mbappe wants to maximize his payment as a free agent. No one is wrong, just that Mbappe is smarter. If PSG thinks he is violating the contract, then take him to court and settle the case.

PSG shouldn't have given him a free agency clause if they're going to hold him hostage to it.

Not true. Are u forgetting his first contract had already ran down? He could've left for already a couple years ago instead he show PSG love and renewed. This new wave of player power will only help course correct the absurd transfer market

PSG’s leave or sign action is harming the team. Players have run down their contracts numerous times. If the player is professional, the club, still plays them, gets revenue from stadium attendance, jersey sales, tv, commercials etc. They still have a punchers chance of winning the UCL with Mbappe. The egos of the chairman and board are costing this team in football and business.

Spot on! They could've easily turned this into the "Last Dance" season for Mbappe´. Shirt sales and attendance would've been through the roof! Instead, they let social media trick them as tho they were getting played by Mbappe. Smh

Jules being bias because hes a PSG fan but we dont know that clause in the contract if its anything above 200+ mill no club could afford to trigger that so unless PSG is willing to make that clause 100 or less whats the difference between selling him now or later?

This is such a strange way to handle such a valuable player... I was at the PSG shop at Parc des Princess last Tuesday and they were still selling Mbappe shirts, so my son was lucky enough to get one!!!

Why can’t he just go to Real on loan and next season they get him for free.

They can bench him, but conventional wisdom (not Qatari, but CW) says they do that and say goodbye to hiring world class talent for another 7-10 years. No one worth their price in golden boots will accept a transfer there. Players are people too, and certainly not slaves - something the Qataris need to learn the hard way. Kudos to and respect for M'Bappe for standing up for himself.

Why is he stubborn? Why are you giving PSG credit? You all are ridiculous. Especially as an ex-player, how could you not support what Kylian Mbappe wants to do. Let this young, black king respect his contract as he is doing. It’s PSG that think they are above everything.

The owners of PSG bought the wrong club and their project was a mistake. They’ve spent huge sums of money to dominate Lihue 1, ruining the competition in the process and they have appeared once in the UCL final.

A couple of seasons ago Mbappe had apparently said he wouldn’t leave PSG for free. Can’t be surprised if he goes back on his word though

Whatever deal he has made with any other club (if made) doesn’t violate his contract. His contract is to stay for a year at the club he is at then be a free agent. In all honesty if PSG negotiated in classy manner with Mbappe, they may not have been in this situation. They clearly mishandled the situation and mouthed threats when Mbappe had all the cards via the signed contract. Yes he may sit for a year, but so what. He will play for the french team, and a player like him will not lose much value after. He’s doing nothing wrong. PSG on the other hand paying but sitting him for the “prinicple” makes no sense.

I did not like the way Leboeuf was framing Mbappe's decision. Mbappe is not asking to leave before the end of his contract. He is asking to leave at the end of it. By doing this, he is not putting himself above PSG. Well down Shaka for correcting the records. I disagree with Laurens this time as well. Mbappe is not being stubborn. PSG sold him a project to make him sign. It was not just about money but plans to win and they are failing. It would be a waste for Mbappe to stay any longer. You have to remember he did his part: he scored many goals and more than any other PSG players and he has been 6 years at PSG.

PSG deserves everything they get, so do Neymar and Mbappe. Feel bad for Lucho. He should have known better though.
