The video shows how to replace the battery on the magnetic compass, used on the AN/PVS-14 and PVS-7 series of Night vision devices.

Great video! Very informative. Unfortunately my compass doesn’t work very well. The degrees are way off.

Seems like a great idea, but I've heard that it's very common for them to be off by a good bit.

What's the price of one battery? And you can find it easily? I live in México and i think it's hard to find that battery here, i think for me it's more viable find those tritium keychain and modify the compass for recibing the little tritium bar. Do you recommend me yo do it?

Both mouser.com and digikey.com sell them (as BR425) made by Panasonic, about USD $3.25 per battery. Cheap unknown quality ones are available on Amazon.

I'm assuming if that 'gold plated spring' were sheared off at the angle that one is SOL? I have one I'm working with. Compass reading works fine (I've added my own light source to confirm. Think battery may be dead but I also broke that spring when removing battery (spring was fragile).

Does it function in daylight (without nvg of course)? I'm looking for a similar product that can be used either with or without protective glasses in daylight. Anyone knows of some kind?

It will work during daylight and visible to the naked eye only if the LED is lit. Not too practical though as you'd have to always be pressing the pressure switch on the bottom for it to function. As this great video points out you'd have to press pretty hard to get the full brightness of the LED That being said the compass is not visible without the LED As for other like items I can only suggest google or maybe DX/Deal Extreme

The unit slips over the front optic housing. When you push on the bottom of the compass in the center, it makes contact to illuminate the led that shines through the compass, into the NVG unit.

Why they didnt just use a watch battery under a screw-on cap is something I will never understand.
