An overview of the My Safe Florida Home program
To qualify:
It must be a single family dwelling. Condos mobile homes and multi-unit complexes do not qualify.
It must be a homestead property, not a secondary home or an investment/rental property.
The home must be insured for under $500,000
Proof of homestead exemption and insurance required before initial inspection will be scheduled.
My safe Florida home provides $2 for every $1 you spend, with a cap of $10,000 for approved repairs and upgrades.
You must use a designated contractor on the approved list, they will send it to you once you're inspector sends his results.
This is a reimbursement grant program, not a means for initial financing. You are still responsible for fully funding the project upfront and paying your contractor in full before grant money can be released to you.

Very informative and to the point.
You said "they will reimburse you $2.00 for every $1.00 you spent." (At minute mark 3:16) then you said "essentially you're paying for a third" and then " if you spent $15,000 or more you will be receiving $10,000". That does not compute. If I'm receiving $2.00 for every $1.00 I spent, I'm receiving double what I paid! Please clarify!!

I would be happy to help you. However you do need to wait until you have official grant approval in order to start getting quotes. Have you received that approval already?
I finished my roof in January. I was approved but it took the contractor forever to fill out the form. Which was done June 27th. Now I'm waiting to be refunded. I hope I will be included in the next payments being submitted to home owners.

Keep in mind there should be thousands of requests. They will refund the money but it could take a little while.

There is quite a due process which they sent you extensive information on when you were first approved. Please make sure you have submitted ALL required forms not only from your contractor but also from your insurance to obtain grant funds.

@@Jack-russell103 were you already fully approved for this grant before contracting the roof? If no- unfortunately it's too late. if yes- the contractor will provide you a cover sheet and the grant program wil have already emailed you instructions with the apprival letter with what documents you need to submit. your contractor is not responsible for doing any of this, it is your responsibility

You can certainly attempt to. However I would suggest to email your question directly to the program for correct answer info@mysafeflhome.com
Hello, we have had the wind mitigation and applied for the grant but haven't heard anything back, can I proceed or wait for another email?

You must wait until you have official approval from the grant before you can contract anything for replacement, if you contract before approval you risk them denying your reimbursement

My neighbor had it done. He said with the Wind Mitigation report alone, you can shop it to insurance companies and they cut his premium in half and eventually he got the grant month later which the contractor minuses off (The 10K) and then you can pay that remainder or finance it.
Hi Im confuse because I read that townhouse are included for windows but not for roof. Can you please clarify

Townhouses qualify for opening protection only. No roofs. WIndows and glazed doors would be part of what you may qualify for. Solid doors are only approved with a written statement from insurance that it would lower your costs and is required for a discount. Otherwise a solid door would not qualify is insurance does not require it in order to receive the credit
I got approved but can’t get a list of contractors and no one will get back with me.

What about mobile homes
@thefloridahomeownersguide

no. mobile homes are not designated as homes at all, they are part of the motor vehicle registration department and therefore have no requirement for impact products since they are 'cars' not 'houses'
The My Safe Florida Home program will not pay you a reimbursement. I've submitted everything and since 06/05/2023 I have not been paid what the case workers approved. Today 07/22/2023. Be very careful using this program.

My safe Florida home will pay you a reimbursement for any items that they have already previously approved for their grant. However if you start these projects before your grant is approved, or do projects that were not officially authorized by them then you are correct they will not reimburse you for those. There is a procedure that has to be followed. If you have followed that procedure correctly, then wait patiently for them to reimburse you. It is not a quick turnaround, with hundreds of thousands of applications their program runs slowly
What happens if the "qualified contractors" come up with ridiculous quotes with a large part not covered by the program and you can't afford it? Do you end up in some kind of list that will create problems in the future? I ask because sadly Florida is the sleazebag capital of the US. Gimmics and other ways to fleece consumers abound and many are sponsored by the Florida government (maybe out of shorsightedness or in return for campaign contributions, I don't know and TBH I don't want to know). Home Depot does not worry me, but there are many that I'd be worried about.

Pretty much all the qualifies contractors on the list are charging fair market value prices, very few charge ridiculous amounts and this is why I always suggest getting 3 quotes before deciding. As far as ending up on 'some list' Im not sure what exactly you're referring to. The only thing youd face would be loss of ability to obtain funding if your project is not completed and inspected by July 2024
