Pavarotti remains my favorite version but Lara's version has a passion you can't escape. And, apropos of nothing in particular, you have a beautiful speaking voice yourself!

Oh and by the way Lara has been trained as an opera soprano during 10 years at Brussels Royal Conservatory and continues to be trained 2 hours a day in the same way. She only moved to pop because she is first and foremost a songwriter.

She spent the first few years of her life there with her sicilian mother and grandma. Italian is her first native language. Her husband is also sicilian. I know this song well and the story behind it. Even though I do not even speak Italian, I almost know the words by heart. I have also heard many covers, including Metallica's whose fan I've been since I was 12 (yes, I am indeed a fan of Metallica even though I love classical music too). I wasn't sure if her mother or her father were Sicilian, so thank you for sharing that with me.

Grandpa is american (born in NYC then raised in Detroit) - father side: father is belgian- flemish but lives on the french side, grandma is dutch - her husband is sicilian - her ex and father of her daughter is french - one of her aunt is spanish - quebec is the place she calls home, along with Sicilia, having started her career there and being in love with the peop’e there. She has been granted Canadian citizenship in the mid 90s. She is a language genius, write songs in 4, speaks or understand even more and has sung in 13 languages.

I understand the national pride in music and again, agree with you that the original should be heard, known and respected. Believe me when I say what Italian artists bring, such as Lucio Dalla as well as Caruso who inspired the song is not forgotten and overlooked. Educated people to this day know many canzoni Italiane and even the genre known in my country as "kancona" is very well known. Be proud of Italy - without Dalla, there would not be such an amazing rendition of Lara's either.

Aleks, besides being a wonderful singer she is a great storyteller. The emotion she puts into a song through her voice and her body language is captivating and put it all together and we have an artist who thrills her audiences when they hear her sing. If you listen to more of her she had some Concerts around the turn of the Century and everything she sang was unbelievably wonderful and beautiful. This was taken from one of those Concerts. You were very moved by Lara and I am so happy for you that you had the opportunity to listen to her sing 'for you'.

@@AleksReactsyes this concert is legendary, packed with masterpieces. But it is even not the preferred concert by her and her fanbase (it’s En Toute Intimité, in Paris - 2003). And the Pure 1997 concert in Montréal is also stellar.

This is an amazing song, and many great singer such as Pavarotti, Josh Groban, and Lucio Dalla had sung this song beautifully. Somehow, Lara's version touched me most. Not saying others are not amazing, only that I found Lara's Caruso felt so special for me.

Just look what happened to their proclaimed “vocal trinity”. Whitney was literally vocally and personally destroyed by the industry. Céline spent her last healthy years ruining her voice in Vegas. And, Mariah, the poor woman, was swallowed by her own ego… Lara is happy and healthy, singing only what she loves alongside great orchestras. Her voice very much preserved. She’s touring through Europe now and just a week ago performed alongside Hauser at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and it was a triumph! 🙌🏻

Lucio Dall died in 2012 and Lara sang Caruso in the 1990's. I do not know if it is true that he said that or not, but he could have. Still, the original is always to be respected, although some other versions may be preferred.
