An old upright piano adventure, "the saloon sound", part 2
Музыка
I've had a lot of request to make another music video playing an old upright, "saloon" piano. So, here it is! This was one of my old upright pianos that I bought and fixed up. I gave this piano to my younger sister, and she let me play it to make the video. :-)
I hope you enjoy it!

The saloon sound and the house go well together. The only things missing are some of those dancing ladies swinging their legs way up high, and a bar fight complete with chairs, fists and broken bottles flying left right and center!

Favorite bar fight ever: Hawmps, 1976. The cavalry soldiers from two rival units start fighting in the saloon, and the old barkeep fires a shotgun into the ceiling and hollers "AWRIGHT-YOU KNOW THE RULES! No gunplay, no knives, no clobberin' with anything bigger than a chair. All breakage will be paid for on the spot. And any man fool enough to touch my brand-new bar mirror from St. Louis will get his head blowed off!" And the brawl (not to mention the saloon band) continued. Good Lord, I loved that movie.

You can hear it very well on, You are my sunshine song, the sliding notes that are being caused by a damper on the high hat sections of the strings, at least that is how my S&C does it. On the Boogie Woogie I love the varying slide and ringing sounds on the notes of the higher chords. that slithering effect is the metal discs in the base section, controlled on my S&C by the middle pedal.

Great inspiring music and playing!!! This Boomer guy gets more into playing my pie-anner every time I hear you play. I love that you get into singing right along. That's what music is for. Thanks for posting this!!! BTW, is that the same $75 salvaged piano that you played in one of the videos in your basement area work shop B4 you fixed it up? Looks and sounds super!

Ooh. Would LOVE to hear a Rick22228 original album. Especially with that magical Boogie Woogie on an old saloon piano. ;)
The best part of this, is when Rick says Yeah!! in the B.W. Section and then gets right down to it, making this old piano sing!!!
Ohh yeah!! A 2nd part!
If this guy dedicated his whole channel to playing old songs on old pianos I’d watch every video immediately
Holy cow that performance of "you are my sunshine", I've never heard it like that or thought much of the song till now
True art talent is not seen often but it shines here

I'm one of the lot of people. Your father was a really clever man. And I could hear you play the piano 🎹 everyday. Keep singing, keep playing and wish you good health.
I found your original saloon video in my recommendations, and was lucky enough to find it just in time for your part 2 to be uploaded 8 years later. Thank you for sharing spreading joy with your wonderful playing.
Hey Rick. Good to hear you play again!! but, it doesnt sound as tubby or clanky as that old Schiller you had. Also on part 1, I just posted about the 'Saloon" piano I found in Virginia City, Nevada, In the old Silver Dollar Saloon, it is an old 1875 model Story & Clark, I played B.W. and Ragtime on it, and it sounded almost the same as your old Schiller!! The tourists came out of the woodwork all up and down the street, gathered around and sung there hearts out for about almost 2 hours while I played the best sounding music they had ever heard, I had that old S & C rockin out!! At least that is what a lot of them said. They must have bought me a dozen beers, cause I was a bit tipsy, and had to sit and shoot the bull awhile before I could drive, to Austin and home!! Was a really good time, thanks for the inspiration, you are a National Treasure. dont ever quit! music keeps us healthy and young at heart!!

This house is absolutely beautiful Rick! Your dad was a very smart and talented man that's for sure :) Brilliant video, I'm so happy I've found it
Yee Haw! Finally, another old saloon piano adventure! :) I found the original video years ago, and it always stuck with me. I'd look it up every few years when it'd pop back in my head, and always got enjoyment out of it. Then, about a year ago, I decided to actually peak at your entire channel and was pleasantly surprised to find an entire collection of you cranking out some tunes on a wide variety of pianos. I was hooked and subscribed immediately. So happy to see another upright "saloon sound" video. I just may have to adventure out and get myself one, one of these days. Thanks for making your videos! - all of them. It certainly brightens my day to see another Rick22228 upload, and I really enjoy the friendliness and music. You're like the youtube equivalent of a musical Mr. Rogers. Keep on keeping on! :)
It's out of tune, yes... But it still sounds very beautiful! And the saloon songs you play together with the sound of the piano is really good. Beautiful, and you're also singing really good :) Greetings from Sweden

A part 2, that was pretty unexpected. I like how you got that piano fixed up and moved there. The house and the piano go well together, they both have a great history . You playing that piano just makes me smile, I hope you and your family can have a good time with that piano. 😁

Holy crap! This guy can play AND sing! Wow!
Great!! I can't wait for 2026 to see part 3
I have been wanting this! Thank you Rick!
That's awesome to hear your Father built that house by himself & It's kept in the family now for generations (Hopefully) that's how it is in our Family as well!! We the Old Blue Collar workers!! Glad you are still with us Rick! Thanks for sharing.
For me, the sound of the piano still so beautiful. I love the sound of old pianos too. I really love it.
I just love hearing all the old songs my papaw used to sing with me as a little one :) thank you
Hello Rick I know this is an older post, but I have just watched your two videos. I will bet you already know this. This Piano Conover, I will bet was made in the same Factory in Oregon Illinois as your one in part one. The name of that shopping mall is the Conover Factory. I can really appreciate your restoring old Pianos, my Mother taught Piano all her adult life. When she passed away I had her two Pianos restored, I gave one to my son and I kept the one she bought new I think in 1926, a baby grand Hamilton. It is a wonderful instrument the restorer said it was really a very good one. Thanks for your posting you put on a really nice performance.
omg when he started singing i couldnt help but smile :) one day I'm going to get a piano like this!
Hi Rick. It's YOU , not the piano, so famous. At the very begining you said that a lot of people liked your piano - it may be that we came at the part 1 when looking for something on piano, (mostly I think boogy woogy) but we stay ( I think most of us) here not for the piano but for YOU , for your smile, for your "carpe diem" moment, we are here when we are sad and need boost in live, as children who come back to parents, we are here to charge our battery. If you wrote a book how did you manage to achive this smile in your life (English is not my mother tongue - live or life?;) as nice as in part 1 it would be so famous as books of Seligman's or Ben Shahar's. I never was at USA and have small chance to be there (money and holiday time) , but every time I think what except route 66 should I see I think how far from my route may be your house. I would add some mileages to say HI to you. It (again my opinion) was the main reason we were waiting for the part 2. Not the piano - we love YOU Rick !

What an "airy" sound! Pianos don't sound like that anymore. So vibrant.
Love this!!!
Rick - I love the way you play, it makes me really happy 😅 Your right , that $75 piano sounds like an old saloon piano like on the old TV show Laramie. Steve Ward , Hesperia Michigan.
What a wonderful gentleman! I'd love to hear more. It makes me move and happy
Your father was a talented man indeed. I could feel the pride in your voice as you spoke of him and the tremendous work he did on the family home. A master craftsman and no mistake. Love you're enthusiasm for the old music and piano. Its infectious...well I've certainly caught the bug and I'm away over here in Belfast N. Ireland! Best wishes to you and yours.
