So there's a story behind why they flip the Blizzards. Samuel Temperato, the DQ franchise owner who came up with the idea for Blizzards, was inspired by the frozen treats sold by Ted Drewes, a St. Louis shop owner who termed them “concrete”. In 1959, Steve Gamber, then 14, would stop by Drewes’ Chippewa Street location for a sandwich and chocolate malt, asking Drewes to make it thicker and thicker each time. Drewes had enough and one day flipped the malt upside down to show its thickness, assuring his young customer that if it fell out, it was free. Temperato picked this up for Dairy Queen!

The peanut buster parfait at DQ is EVERYTHING. I've been getting it my whole life. There's just something about hot fudge in cold vanilla ice cream & then the texture crunch of the peanuts w the saltiness all together that makes it OUTSTANDING.

I had a friend send me Jeni’s ice cream as a get well gift when I had a major accident. The flavors were creative, but I didn’t feel the ice cream itself was that wonderful. If you guys want the best ice cream ever, the next time you are in NY, take a trip about 90 minutes north of NYC in Orange County to a place called Bellvale Creamery. They make ice cream from their own dairy farm. They say they are inspired by Italian gelato. Flavors are very natural. I think Alessio would approve. Also, it’s never too cold to eat ice cream!

This was awesome y’all. Maybe you can try to make homemade ice cream for a video? You could compare the kind you need special salt for and the kind you make in a machine that doesn’t need the salt. I think there’s a method of rolling a coffee can or something like that as well. You could rate it based on time it takes to make it (from putting ingredients together to frozen state), consistency, taste, cost (machine cost, ingredient cost) and overall happiness on a scale of maybe 0-5 or 0-10. Btw, hearing “the Dairy Queen Guy” recognize you and talk about how he and his wife are fans was super exciting! I can’t imagine how awesome that must feel but the gigantic smiles on your faces spoke volumes. Can’t wait to see the next video! 🤘🏻☺️💕

@@dianemcgee2381 I had a friend in high school that worked at a Dairy Queen. They had to turn them upside down before giving them the treat. There is a sign on the takeout window that states the Blizzard is free if it isn’t held upside down. My friend gained weight there because of eating so many Blizzards. She admitted she purposely messed some orders up so she could eat them. She hated the machine because it was messy while blending especially if people added in extra items. Cleaning the machine was a pain too. I love Blizzards but they’re so expensive now.

I used to like grocery store ice cream but they have changed the ingredients, it comes through in flavor and quality. Seems they are now using the cheapest ingredients to make expensive ice cream. I have not had blue bunny ice cream in a while but that was my favorite brand.

For us as kids, Dairy Queen was the “bribe” my parents used so that we would behave on long family trips. But there was no Blizzard then. We always got a chocolate dipped cone. And the last bit of the cone was reserved for the dog. :-) The “Marble Slab” place seems like a knockoff of Cold Stone Creamery. Seems like they used artificial flavors (but I’ve never encountered it so what do I know?) I might have gone to Baskin Robbins for the mid-range tbh. If you ever visit Seattle, try Fainting Goat or Molly Moon. :-)

P.S. The Dairy Queen near my grandma refused to follow the "upside down" trick. They wouldn't turn it upside down, and it was never thick enough to do that. If I had tried, I would have had soft serve all over my counter. They always did their blizzards a bit soft, which I don't mind actually, as long as they're too melted already. And so long as I still have Oreo chunks that I can taste. Too blended and what's the point?

Ice cream is one of the things I will not tip for, nor should anyone else. Why should you get a tip, when you didn't actually do anything to earn the tip. This growing trend of requesting a tip, for basic service is despicable. Tips are for places where waitstaff actually comes to your table, and provide service, not where you walk up to the counter to place an order.

I worked at Ben n Jerry’s for a couple months for extra money before my first time going to Europe. We had to make waffle cones all day. Id go home smelling like a waffle cone. To this day the smell makes me sick. All I craved after serving ice cream all day was salad and V8. But I agree gelato in Italt is better than any american ice cream. Im vegan now so all I can have is the vegan frozen stuff.

Here in North Florida the best local chain is Baskin Robbins (favorite flavor is Daiquiri Ice). I mostly get pints of Talenti gelato or Hagen Daz (current favorite is White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle). For the larger Store bought half gallons Breyers Vanilla Bean Vani!la and Mint Chocolate Chip are pretty good.

I’m still a Dairy Queen fan. I grew up going to the one on University Blvd near the overpass, by the train yard. When I moved to Tallahassee in 1989, there weren’t any there then, before we moved in2010, they had some. Hagen Daz Swiss vanilla almond is my favorite. There used to be Swenson’s, Regency had one (so it was a long time ago), and there was one on San Jose. Cold stone is good. Many moons ago when I was a little girl, Jacksonville had Dipper Dans. It was a local chain. There was one in Arlington and I think Lakewood.

The Butterfinger Blizzard was my go to, when I had them. I remember when they were first introduced in the late '80's, as a kid. The last time I had one, though, was probably 8 years ago, and it was disappointing (not flavor, but consistency). It was milkshake thick, not Blizzard thick. Dairy Queen is not really common here (Nor-Cal), as there are a few around, but none of them close enough to validate the trip, so going to a different location is not really viable. Haven't been back, since.
