Same here. I have a small dollhouse that is 1/24 scale and am trying to furnish it.

I can’t fathom anyone disliking this incredible video. Thank you for putting so much thought into this presentation. You are just so genuine and informative, which is tough to find these days on KZread.

Thank you for the explanation. I just purchased a Victorian dollhouse similar to the one I had as a child (about 60 years ago). It is bring back very happy memories as I decide how to arrange the furniture, see what else it needs and do some minor repairs.

Thank you for presenting the scales for everyone. It was easy to understand. I down loaded it and showed it to my daughters and we made a field-trip to the toy store to reinforce the scale lesson you just taught. Thanks for helping me make homeschooling fun.

What a great video, it's so hard at times to conceive scale, even when you understand scale. I do playscale and architect's scale, and don't own objects in these other scales, so when I have an idea for a project that is in another scale, it's so hard to envision the size I'd need. This video just made it a bit better visually.

I just started knitting a scarf on bamboo toothpicks with embroidery floss. It is pretty stiff, but after it's washed, maybe it will drape better. Thanks again! Just subscribed. :-)

Thanks for this primer. I am collecting dollhouse furniture for some small stereoscopic dioramas. I now have some idea what sizes I have and the people I'd like to populate the scenes.

Really good presentation, as I appreciate and thank you for making this video. I have dabbled in the past making structures out of popsicle sticks, but only really went as far as to build the buildings and then sized down the different objects and furniture on the inside. The different objects, such as the furniture, I continued using popsicle sticks to make them. I have, as of recently, I would say about a week or so now, have noticed the bug of building models once again biting at me. As of now, I am trying to learn more about the technical side, such as the size in scales. Again, this is the first time I am actually diving in a bit deeper and trying to learn the ins and outs compared to just throwing something together. Please excuse my ignorance that at the moment, as I am just learning this stuff, the way that I describe things may not be the technical wording/ reference. As I'm not sure what the scale size of the last building was that I made, It roughly was 12 inch tall, from the floor of the building to the peak of the roof. Approximately 14 inches or so square. Previously, I did not use figurines such as people. It was just the house with furniture. I am unsure by the dimensions of the building, what scale of furniture/figures I should use that would look realistic. I am thinking of making a 19th-century one room church. Unsure the scale size of furniture/ figures that would be appropriate as I attempt to stick to realistic size comparisons. Any input or direction would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have always worked in 1/12 scale but I will have the opportunity to do 1/48 scale as a club project in September. I hope I can make it work, it seeing what I am doing, sometimes 1/12 is a problem but I will be ok. Thanks for the infro.

two inches = one foot in that scale, so that should help.

Question! What scale furniture would you recommend for a dollhouse that’s 51” tall x 45” wide x 12” deep with rooms being 12” high from floor to ceiling? It’s an open dollhouse so there’s no front door/doors. I can’t figure out if 1:12 or 1:6 would look better. Please let me know which one u think would work better- This is a Xmas gift for my daughter so I need to place furniture orders asap :) thanku!!

that is a bit of an odd size. I think you would be better with 1/12th scale since Barbie would be so close to hitting her head on the ceilings in the rooms. My fear is that the 1/12th is going to look tiny but 1/6th is going to look too big.

joannesminis thanku for responding! My husband decided he’s gonna make the rooms 10 & 1/4” high instead of 12”. Were in the process of building the doll house so now that the height has changed, do you think the 1:12 will still look tiny?

I prefer to start my project with the same size as your friend does. It's 1:48, right? Love it!!! Can't wait to start but I don't know where to start first...

can you use 1:16 scale ceramic dishes for 1/6 scale doll?

In scale the higher the number (in this case "16") the smaller the item, which means that your ceramic dishes in a 1:6 scale dollhouse will be even smaller than 1:12 scale dishes would be.

When I recorded this video very few people were working with 1/24th scale. Since then it has gained a lot of popularity.

As I'm continuing on watching your video here. Would I be wrong, and say if a building was of 1:48 scale, the design of say furniture, vehicles, all the realistic additives that would be placed in or around the building would also be considered 1:48 scale? Even though they are the same size of scale, would the building be designed to be bigger than the figures, the additives so that it would look more realistic? So if I build a 1:48th scale house, would I use 1:48 size cars, or smaller to look realistic? Sorry for the question.....😒 lol

+Danielle Pirkle how tall are door openings? If they are around 6" it is probably a small 1/12th scale house. If they are shorter, closer to 5 and a quarter to 5 and a half (especially if it is an older house) then it might be a scaled with 3/4" to the foot. This was a more common scale in commercially available dollhouses from 40 or more years ago.

I started out working in 1:12 scale, and then a friend infected me with the microminis bug, so I started working in 1:144 scale. Another name for the scale is DOLLHOUSE FOR A DOLLHOUSE. The houses and roomboxes created in 144th scale fit perfectly in a 1:12 scale dollhouse or roombox. It is a really fun scale! :)

Dude... I have a dollhouse for a dollhouse I built from a teeny tiny kit. I’ll have to use some of this home time to make 1/144 scale furnishings for the lil guy.

what size would a 4.5in doll be?? I've heard both 1:12 and 1:24.

My first question would be is this doll supposed to represent an adult or someone younger? In 1/12th scale 4 ½” is equal to 4' 6” (or 4 ½') about right for a teen/pre-teen or a very small adult. On the other hand in 1/24th scale 4 ½” is equal to 9' so that would not be the correct scale. If the doll is supposed to be an adult it might be closer to ¾”= a foot, a scale that used to be common for dollhouse in years past. We don't see much in the way of new dollhouses in that scale. Is this a doll that was made recently or is it an older doll? Not all dolls even ones made today fit neatly into common scales. I hope this helps.

***** its a chibi doll not young or old really. Her heads about 1/3 of her body. Shes a cu-poche figure which means she was recently made.

I would say it depends on how much space you have in your home. 1:12 scale needs a lot more room than, say, 1:24 or 1:48 would need. 1:48 scale is very popular, so there are lots of artisans working in that scale, providing dollhouse and furniture kits, as well as completed houses and furniture.

10/10 for comic sans.

Big things easy.. but making cups, etc..😢 my 1st venture to making miniature is scary, all the work then to find out..oops pizza is huge..so watching video to clear my brain.❤

12 inch Gi joe = 1/6

There are lots of artisans that work in 1:48 scale ... if you do a google search for "one quarter scale dollhouse miniatures" you will find quite a few. You can also go to www.miniature.net and you will find links to artisans listed according to the scale you are interested in. :)
