    Thank you Andrew. It's been +25 years since I do no grab a brush. You've inspired me so much to get rid of my fear of not being good enough - I will paint again and your soothing and calm presence will be guiding me along! Thank you - Also, your video editing and production is top notch. Thank you for the hard work and sharing your talent with the world! Just discovered you one day ago - can't stop watching! Three videos already! I'm thrilled!

    I bought your book Seasons and Reflections to have all your wonderful paintings to look at, only to find that your words spoke to my exact situation like no other painting instructor ever has. I've learned so much from your book, Thank you! And when you said in this video, after the block-in, to step back and say, "Now I'm going to finish the painting", it really hit the nail on the head. This is something I've never done before, and it clicked immediately. I haven't picked up a paint brush in literally 6 months, and now I feel inspired and ready, with this new approach, to finally see my paintings all the way through as you've shown me. Thank you so much, Andrew! Bless you! :)

    Very nice painting. I especially like the addition of the lightest sand color near the end to pull one's gaze inward, as it truly does this in a very subtle way. Your take on adding a sense of the untidy to give the scene life is also a good bit of advice.

    Greetings from chaotic America. Thanks for the video. Great information and very helpful for those feeling the urge to try their luck with oil paint. I correspond with Alan Oliver who lives in Stamford. He is a great artist and has been a perfect gentleman and a pleasure to correspond with. You should check out his site if you are not familiar with him. One thing I'm sure a lot of viewers would like to see is you mixing your colors. That would be a great addition to an already great video. Anyway thank you for your time and for sharing your knowledge. Oil paint is difficult for inexperienced painters to get control of. Your instruction gives a great formulae on how to approach an oil painting. I'll check out some of your other videos. Many thanks and have a great day...Brett B....

    I just started painting watercolors and have looked at a lot of on-line videos. Yours are in another league. You're a painter, they're watercolorists. Then I stumbled on this oil painting tutorial. It made my understanding of watercolor so much clearer and how to paint instead of just copy a picture. With oils, do you clean your brushes between colors, wipe it, use a different brush or just add new paint to the existing brush? Thanks for making these videos. It's a great way for those of us who don't live in Suffolk, or the UK, to learn from you.

  • @AndrewPittArtist

    Many thanks for your kind comments. The answer to your question about cleaning oil brushes is, ‘’it depends’’. I usually wipe my brush if the next colour I’m about to use is a similar tone and colour. I also try to use a fresh brush where possible. Probably the most important habit to cultivate is the discipline of cleaning up regularly, both brushes and the palette. Thanks for your interest.

    Hi Andrew, I've been following you for quite a while, watching all your demo's and thoroughly enjoyed them too. Your style, and knowledge has influenced me no end with my watercolour painting and I'm pleased to say, it's rubbed off on me. After giving in to my 'adventurous side', I have purchased everything I need to now make a start on Oil Painting. I have never, ever touched oil paints before and do not have much of a clue. There is a lot of info on KZread, but I find it is not all that helpful to me. I have just watched this video yet again and find your demo and commentary wonderful. Thank you so much. Hi Andrew, me again. I've been looking at your choice of oil paints. It looks like they're artist quality, Winsor & Newton. I'm curious, a small tube of Cadmium colour is currently £17.10 and a small tube of cobalt violet is £25.20. Would you pay these sort of prices or have you an alternative?

    Who is your favorite painter? Monet? Isnt it so difficult not to be influenced by the greats? Real trouble is to bring out the style that sets you apart then the others, isn't it? Seems to me oils are more meditative medium in which you put more to make "art" compared to more ephemeral watercolor which is inherently sweet and loveable synthesis of what is there. What i mean is that there is a difference between mediums, not only oil or water but the whole philosophy of why to paint...?

  • @AndrewPittArtist

    @AndrewPittArtist

    I have favourite paintings rather than favourite artists. All artists build on the work of others. It would be silly not to benefit from what others have learnt. I think whether we like watercolour or oil is to do with temperament and personality, although watercolour does tend to dictate the pace you must work. My work is to celebrate what I paint and the activity of painting.
