My mother, she came and visited me a few months ago and brought to me a plastic bin. Which contained her old college level photography education materials, research and notes. As well as an old, mint condition, Minolta X-370 and a collection of film she had developed alongside prints. Thank you for the video here, seriously. Years ago you made it and your still helping people! One awesome person!

Thank you for this wonderful video! I'd love to switch from digital to film photography. Unfortunately the photosensitve emulsion on the filmstrip contains gelatine as I found out recently and I try my best to be a thorough vegetarian in every area of life.. Have you ever come across a manufacturer using gelatin substitute?
@doyoudevelop
5 жыл бұрын
Hi there, unfortunately there isn't a substitute. Maybe something for the future? I'd like to hope so. I'm a vegan myself, but I strongly believe that nobody is a superhuman, everyone should do what they can to "play their part" - I don't eat meat and animal products and with that i'm already contributing to a majority of factors. You can't be perfect at everything, and neither should you. Let alone, ever since i've shot film, I haven't bought ANY new digital gear, no electronics, ... things that also produce waste and harm the environment. My analog cameras are all second hand (except one), so it's been reused and not turned to trash, unlike most digital cameras, which all land in a junk yard after a few years.
Nice

Anytime!
question - if you store your film in the refrigerator and ready to shoot it , how long do you have to wait ? I know you can’t shoot it cold but wondering is there a time frame to wait or just wait until it’s room temp? Also , can you do a few pictures on a roll , take it out, store it , then shoot that same roll again at a later date? or will it ruin the photos?
@doyoudevelop
4 жыл бұрын
If you wait around 10 minutes it should be completely fine! But even if you shoot it cold, like straight away, it shouldn't be much a problem!
@doyoudevelop
4 жыл бұрын
Technically yes, but it's complicated. You would have to shoot the frames, then rewind the film, use a film picker to get the film out of the fully wound film, then insert it again into the new camera, and take at least the same amount of photos you took before but with the lens cap on, so the film isn't exposed to anything. And then you could continue as normal. I would not recommend this though as errors and bad handling are likely.

You mentioned at 4:44 that "as the number is smaller so you have a very high sensitivity" needs to be corrected, the lower the ISO, the less sensitive it is to light.

Such an amazing explanation!!
Great video! I appreciate the information that you spoke about especially as a digital photographer trying to get into film. When taking portraits what shutter speed do you recommend for film rolls that are 200 or 400? A little shaky when it comes to shutter speed and selecting the one that’s best fit for those settings.
@doyoudevelop
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That completely depends on what kind of light you are working with and what you want to achieve. Have you heard of the sunny 16 rule? Try and adapt that to your film, then work towards 200, 400 ISO. Buying an external light meter might help you as well, especially if you're a beginner. Also, some can shoot 1/15 out of their hand without shaking, but as a rule of thumb I wouldn't go below 1/125 if you're having trouble getting sharp shots.
Just started to learn about film photography last week. But all i could afford is a used Yashica point and shoot :( . I hope one day i can get something like this

ISO (ASA) settings on camera can be changed of course. You can push it or lower according to light situations. I used Portra 400 for low light portrait shots, I pushed to 800 ISO, no problem
@doyoudevelop
5 жыл бұрын
yes, but you shouldn't change while shooting with one speed to another ;)
@Pentax67
3 жыл бұрын
@@doyoudevelop why not ? It’s possible . It works very well for me when I shoot weddings . I can shoot at 100 iso 1st frame then 200 iso second and so on. The lab will develop at box speed and all fine !
@Pentax67
3 жыл бұрын
@@doyoudevelop one thing most photographers should understand is that you can never change the iso of the film. If it’s 400 iso film then it’s always 400 iso film. It’s a physical property - silver particles on film and their size. You just merely change the shutter speed to overexpose or underexpose. That’s all. A true 100 iso film shot at 100 and another film 800 iso shot at 100iso will both have different results in terms of sharpness , a real 100iso film will be better
