An Intro to V/B (Vertical Bearing) B737

Warning the information mentioned in this video are for training purposes only.
Vertical Bearing is a very powerful tool, that not many pilots use or even understand. If you develop a strong understanding for it I assure you it will set you apart from other pilots in a good way.
I uploaded a video a long time back about V/B as an introduction then three more videos. Unfortunately I deleted the intro video by mistake. I did not bother to make a new one as the reaction I got regarding this topic was not what I expected. I felt pilots were not that interested in it. Till I got a few requests asking about the intro, so here it is.
Capt. Jose this video is dedicated to you.

Dear capt. Abdulmuati,I have a beginners question I think is related to this subject. Last week I had my training and we did the landing, FMC was programmed. I asked my instructor why I could not just keep flying on the FD, so he said, OK do it and see what happens. It appeared I approached way too high at the when I wanted to do the flare. But also way too fast. Was the high speed because I didnt keep an eye on the vertical speed in the FMC and how do I adjust speed at the last part in the flare? Only by pitch with the 2 degrees or also with throttles? I have a bit trouble with the flare and looking for an indication in the instruments that can help me..Hope you can help me. 🙏😊

Hello Inge, Here is a link to a playlist I made for the approach and landing, you might want to check videos 8-10. kzread.info/head/PLT96PrBfPqXBbs2WuU5nKLIjyG8aZLjMN Check them and let me know if you have any questions. I will be more than happy to help any way I can. All the best Abdul

I'm not sure what you mean by "based on clean configuration only". what happens if you deploy speed brakes? or on approach start deploying the flaps and gear. i would think the vb and vs numbers are effected only by distance to go, altitude to lose and current ground speed.

Hello S G, What I meant is using the V/S number indicated by the FMC to have the FPA close to the V/B. If you have flaps or gear the FPA will be much more than the V/B if you use the V/S in the FMC. Does that make sense? If not let me know. Thanks for your constant support and participation S G

@@AbdulmuatiAsiri37 not really. FPA is the angle the plane is flying right? once i intercept a v/b of 3 degrees..i should be able to fly a FPA of 3 degrees.. regardless of config...i should be on the correct path right?

and i agree the v/s will be less with flaps and gear out... but that's because of the slower gs. config the plane.. and try to keep both the FPA and v/b close to 3.. whatever v/s is required.

S G thank you 🙏🏼 very much for this discussion, I will make a raw video today to explain my point. What you said is correct and I agree with you, I believe I was not clear in explaining my idea. So a raw video is coming up and would like to know your feedback both for the point we are discussing here and regarding the voice quality, I just got a new mic hope that will make the raw videos better. Thanks again Abdul
