Lofty was the guy that first sparked my interest in survivalism (now bushcraft) back in the 1980s and I give my deepest thanks and respect to this true legend of the outdoors.

Well said. I've learnt a lot from him. He explains stuff that is easily taken on board. I guess he's one of those people in life that are friendly and look harmless? Never judge a book by its cover.....eh?? 🙌 Lofty.....👊✌

What a fantastic bloke; I'd love to go for a pint with Lofty. And, incidentally, has anyone ever noticed that he is a wise man?

The Legend, Respect from another British Army Veteran. Remember doing Survival Training in the Army still stays in my memory to this day & I’m nearly 50. Taught my kids when they where younger all that was taught me.

Lofty is a total legend- his knowledge and teachings have helped thousands of people have the confidence to survive in challenging times -these basic bushcraft skills should be part and parcel of everyone’s upbringing. Today’s kids are too cosseted at home with their devices and no idea on how to make a fire, shelters or find food.

I do wish that Collins had the gumption to correct all of the silly mistakes which they drew and edited into his book, the SAS Survival Guide. ☆ I annoted these on Google Books Reviews, years ago, but the latest edition still has them. ☆foolish and dangerous!

The trouble the ray mears tribe is that they dont understand black military humour. One day, I was in a pub with lofty having some grub. He said to me, "Go over to a 6ft 3-inch guardsman at the bar and say . What is the difference between an Irish guardsmen and a slice of bread? He drew up to his full height and said, "Don't know. " I removed myself as quickly as possible, saying you can make soldiers out of a slice of bread, but you can't make a soldier out of an Irish Guardsman.😂😂
