I could listen to Kaffe Fassett's enthusiasm all day - great to hear another interview from this guy.
I have just lost my husband after 54 years of marriage. I love crocheting. And you have inspired me to do more colour in my hobby You are brilliant
The Guru of Color. You are so appreciated. You make my heart sing with the fresh popping colors. I hope I can cut into the new fabric I bought of Kaffe's. I know whatever I make with it , it will be loved. Thank you.
I love Kaffe and I love color!
It really was a great interview! I think you ticked all Kaffe’s areas of interest/passion, and respected his time for response. In referring to the artwork of children never being boring, he affirms everyone’s taste, choice of expression, and for me that’s enormously liberating coming from such a master artist! He’s a never ending well of inspiration!
I read Kaffe’s autobiography a few years ago as part of a university paper. Fascinated by his story, art and the vibrancy of his colours. They just resonate. Also loved this interview and discovering we share the same favourite story My Brilliant Career. Watching this interview was today’s highlight thank you!
I agree with Kaffe about overcast skies adding texture & color to the landscape. I grew up just south of San Francisco & although our town had green soaces, we were surrounded by dry brush, grass & chaparral. I learned to appreciate the subtleties between the new green fronds of a palm tree compared to it's older, darker, leathery green fronds. The color of grass, as the wind blows thru it, looks like golden ocean waves. The olive green of mistletoe hanging from oak trees & the silvery green of olive tree leaves. But, I moved to Oregon in my later years & discovered a whole different world of color. Truly overcast days are quite depressing but the dappled sun of spring combined with new plant growth & people emerging from a long cold winter make for an explosion of color. The different hues of green is staggering. Blue skies, chrystal clear blue waters & blue/grey shadows from neighboring mountains all add to the color rainbow. We still have reds, oranges & yellows from the beautiful sunrises & sunsets. And the rain brings May flowers of all colors (Portland has a world class rose garden).
This is by far the best interview with Kaffe that I have seen. Very inspirational of course but also lots of depth. Thank you both so much.
When this interviewer mentioned knitting and a train, I remember reading about kaffe years ago...Wonderful knitwear of many colours...He learned to knit on the train...A wonderful story..
First time hearing this legendary artist. Just Wow!!! Made me want to go pick up a paint brush and just see what happens...positively brilliant!
Excellent interview with a lot of well thought out questions. I learned so much about Kaffe from this video. Lovely array of his quilts too.
Fab interview. Well done. Pleased he’s so ‘human’ but with his love of art and colour and creativity, how can he not be. Loved it.
I am so grateful to Kaffe for reintroducing me to color. I knew color as a child but then grew up & started decorating in greys & browns. I am 62 & putting color back in my life & I am so happy. I love this book as it's so inspiring. Thank you, Kaffe. BTW, I'm from the central coast of California but I'm a closet Angliphile. You're so lucky. Keep the books coming.
What a great interview. I just recently been to see the quilt exhibition at the Textile Museum in London. It was so exciting seeing these amazing objects from such a close up. Amazing craftmenhip!!!! I'm a big fan of Kaffe and have several books I look at ever so often and am currently working in the Lily Pad Frog tapestry. Kaffe is the kind of guy one wants to meet once in a life time. And I love the selection of all of his beautiful shirts.
Really enjoyed this KZread. Smiles
Thoroughly enjoyed this interview with Kaffe Fassett. One thing, the beautiful floral quilt Ms. Reid called hexagon flowers is actually an octagon (8 sides).
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS ARTIST…and much APPRECIATE BEING ABLE TO SEE HIM…His. FABRIC. …is Out of this World..!!!
Fantastic interview!! I met Kaffe again in late May this year at Big Sur for another book signing at his family's restaurant Nepenthe. He is a delightful, classy man. Brandon was also there and we met like we were old friends immediatly. I hope to see them again on my next return to Big Sur, where I spend a few days every year since a high school kid, when we, Mom and sister and me, met Kaffe the first time in the late 60's. Lovely, lovely man.
So wonderful . . . . .what an awesome artist . . . .just beautiful!
Met Kaffe in Exeter a while back, hat a lovely man!, I was making a macrame hat andf he eyed with his perceptive gaze and encouraged me with the words: "keep it up, that's a work of art... this impressed me so much that 15 yrs later I'm putting the finishing touches to a 7 volume (slim volumes of perhaps 150pp), series on a new look at macrame's potential... Thank you so much Kaffe!
I'm inspired by Kaffe - we should all learn how to knit, weave, and sew, and become more creative and mindful.
I’ve made my bell trouser out of the blue wheel vegetable’s why quilt I want to make cloths with the beautiful fabrics I have two much choice, luv kaffe and Brandon and Philips thank you teresa
Thrilled and amazed when I heard My Brilliant Career is a favourite movie! Gillian Armstrong's first movie which I saw for the first time in the 70s. Usually when people are asked what's their favourite film they mention some big American thing everyone knows. A smallish Aussie film - such a change!
Kaffe I so feel like you,I’m an old lady I think I’m old,I’m loosing my eyesight,I can’t do enough of your thing materiel for Christmas book for birthday,I luv you sample scale but I can’t see the pattern in the book,I like colour and the materiel that gives me the shivers, your blue and green pots is my favourite painting and I luv the work Brando does is so stunning I just luv you all luv teresa
I've always thought quilting was art, just likemusic is poetry. All interconnected. All wonderful. I'm inspired by my grt get grandmother's quilt which I've inherited. Made mostly from clothing scraps, she was seamstress for the small country town, it's amazing how colourful clothing was in the 19th century.
Best interviewer. Well done.

Do you mean The American Museum in Bath? If so, yes I think so in early 2000 I saw it there by chance with my mother. We went to see the museum's collection of quilts and Kaffe's were in a good sized annexe building,
