An inside look at the defining moments of Liz Truss’ career | Harry Cole and James Heale

“She should have just slowed it all down…tearing around Downing Street saying ‘I’ve only got two years’, turned out she only had two months.”
Harry Cole, political editor of The Sun, and James Heale, diary editor of The Spectator, are the authors of ‘Out Of The Blue: The Inside Story of the Unexpected Rise and Rapid Fall of Liz Truss’, the first biography of Britain’s shortest-serving prime minister.
They join Matt Chorley on #TimesRadio to discuss the defining moments of Liz Truss’ career.

I've never wondered what a Sun writer would be like before but on reflection it's exactly this guy.

But Boris’s new train is being built ; and only four hundred billion quids . It’s called ‘ leveling up’ . Thing is you and I know that four hundred billion quids would do no good at all if used to create jobs . No we wanna get from London to Birmingham in the train fifteen minutes faster . That really is worth FOUR HUNDRED BILLION QUIDS !

As an ordinary plonk voter I only remember one photo, the one in Moscow. I had no idea who she was. To me she came out of nowhere to be PM and thank goodness, disappeared just as quickly.

Truss what a liability she was and probably still is she should be ed charged me with as criminal offence for the direct and deliberate damage she did to the UK .

Truss is ruled by her ego. She started as a Lib Dem. I think that she became a Tory because she calculated that she had a better chance of becoming an MP. She then decided that she wanted to become PM and then said what was necessary to become PM. I doubt that Truss has had a serious opinion on anything but she does says what others want to hear. Trussenomics was what the Tory Party membership wanted to hear.

Well, the upside is that least the lady's rise and fall was fast. A stretched out rise and long, painful fall would have involved many more blunders and associated costs to the long-suffering Brit. I fear Sunak's rise and inevitable fall may take a wee bit longer. The sooner an election is called in the UK the better.

For years Tories used to laugh at the idea of Dianne Abbot becoming a minister but we have a whole slew of nonentities and incompetents achieving high ministerial office and in the case of Johnson and Truss both becoming Foreign Minister and Prime Minister. When you get to the lower ranks people achieved ministerial office who would be hard put to keep a job at MacDonalds.
