Sarah, I was honestly spellbound watching you “show and tell” about your stumpwork. I actually like saying raised embroidery better than the word stumpwork. Stumpwork, to me sounds like I’m outside chopping wood or stump- removing. LOL Now I also know the difference between and techniques of stumpwork and trapunto. Thank you!

Thank you for this interesting video on raised embroidery. I picked up my needle again in 2019 due to a period of sickness and started with cross stitch. I realised that I needed a bigger challenge. Crewel work was next. Followed by bead embroidery then I found your channel and worked through your videos. I love the variety that you show and I now realise I was not searching for a particular hobby, it was simply the joy of needlework in all its guises and techniques. So thank you for making it all accessible to us.

Although a book about raised embroidery would be lovely, I find that I learn various embroidery techniques better via videos. Seeing the stitches tends to stick in my memory better than illustrated guides in books so these videos have proven incredibly useful to me. My repertoire has increased quite a bit since I've started watching.

Your raised embroidery showcases your skill. Seeing your work is always a thrill. In November I suffered a terrible spill, with massive surgeries that I am recovering from still. 👩‍🦽 My healing journey will be long and uphill as I endure each hour and can take another pill. But I am not giving up, I have a strong will, and look forward to the day when I am no longer ill. So please bear with me as I try to be chill and await my first attempt at a stumpwork daffodil. ... Best wishes to you and Jonathan with your Goldwing adventures! 🏍

Raised Embroidery has fascinated me ever since I was a little kid in the early 70's and saw it for the first time at the Oregon State Fair in the USA. A very clever person had used raised embroidery to depict a darling farmyard complete with an apple tree with a tire rope swing, a child playing tug with a dog & stick, fences, people, tools, animals (wee little chickens and even tinier chicks!), and a woman in a dress and bonnet sitting on a stool and milking a cow! Luckily, the piece was behind thick glass; otherwise I'm sure my eager little fingers would have "explored" all of that hard work to shreds! Thank you for showing us so many pieces of your own very clever raised embroidery, Sarah! It's a cold, rainy day here, but your videos always warm & cheer me!

I should definitely give stumpwork a try. After seeing the assorted samples and works, I can say that I have done a fair number of them but only a thing here and there such as the wrapped bead (easy in concept but getting the needle through the last wraps is hard) or turkey work (lots of fun but can get tedious on a large area as I found on doing a cat on a brick doorstop). I have a crewel piece of a basket full of strawberries which has a nice variety of stitches; I was considering how to raise a few of the berries just for added interest. It seems the next thing I should try is a flower or butterfly since I've not done too much with wires aside from a couple small dolls and making those fingers without breaking the fabric covering the wires takes very careful work. PS I think the answer to what is or is not stumpwork is answered with the title of the giveaway book: it's raised embroidery. I think your examples of what stumpwork is not were spot on.
