    Aaaaand they just raised the price on it to $1799! Right before Black Friday deals… might as well go hardshell at that point. I’ve been watching it since I saw your in depth review. Great review!

    Thanks for this review, hubby and I cannot decide on the Vagabond or a hardshell, we are leaning to the Vagabond because of price, we are only going to use it a few times a year. I have seen so many videos saying that hardshell is the way to go, but I just cannot invest 4k into a tent. This just cemented it for us! We will be getting the Vagabond, they are out of stock right now, but hopefully soon they will be back in stock. Love the Crosstrek, my son has one, and I just traded my Outback Wilderness for the Bronco! Hubby got a 2 door Bronco and I got the 4 door.

    The mounting rails on the Roam RTT are universal so they will fit a wide style of crossbars. Roam recommends a minimum of 36" between crossbars.

    Sorry for the late reply. I got the Thule extended aero crossbars. They hold up to 800lbs while not moving. As far as the stock rails. They also hold the same 800 lbs. So it's really the cross bars that matter. But they are not cheap. Cross bars that will support a roof top tent are gonna cost yah close to $400 to $500 bucks. I'm sure you can find maybe cheaper somewhere else. But why risk it?

    How much weight does your Subaru rooftop support? The gas mileage hit you mentioned is it from the aerodynamic because of the tent and or the weight combination? It looks practical and well made, when sleeping in it during windy nights do you feel moving or being blown around a bit? Thanks for the review. Cheers.

  • @ExploreTravelCapture

    My factory roof rack holds up to 160lbs while moving and the tent weights 130lbs. The Thule cross bars also hold up to 160lbs moving. Gas mileage was hit pretty hard but I also did the K02's at the same time so it was difficult to calculate. I've slept in some pretty gnarly wind and never felt my car moving nor the tent move. Although, the rain fly was making some noise flapping around but it wasn't bad. The mattress is WELL made and I have never slept better!

    It takes two people to safely mount a RTT to a car. We never take ours off. Cody recently got the ikamper mini and a review of the hard top will be coming soon. If you’re ok leaving it on it is great. The sleep is far better than anything we experienced before and when you sleep good camping you’re going to have a better time and will want to go more.

    Any thoughts with hardshell ones? Like Ikamper or condor?

  • @SnowIsMyTerrain

    @SnowIsMyTerrain

    2 жыл бұрын

    I've had a chance to interact or at least play with most the common ones (CVT, iKamper, FSR, Alu-Cab, Roofnest) and I'd say it depends. In general, go softshell if: - You're not wanting to spend a ton - You want a lot of room at a given pricepoint - You know you won't mount stuff on top of it (solar, bins, etc) Go hardshell if: - You want the fastest setup and teardown - You want to mount anything to the top (note: not all hardshells support this, but even on an iKamper you can mount flexible solar and such vs a softshell) - You're less price sensitive In the case of this particular tent, it's nice because it's the lightest one you can easily get at ~110lbs and it's compact length wise (the wedge style ones can be very long). For me, personally, as someone who's out a lot by myself doing trail work and such, my current softshell isn't ideal however since I've slept 4 people up there, I need a bigger tent which basically means the iKamper which was $1500 more at the time, and mine included purchasing an Annex and such. If I did it again, I'd probably go with something like my current pickup bed rack + iKamper, or just go full send and get a Super Pacific/Go Fast Camper/AT Overland topper/tent.
