An Idiot's Guide to WALT DISNEY WORLD
This is my updated introduction to Walt Disney World aimed mainly for first timers or those in need of a refresh. I’ll be covering a tour of the parks (including the water parks), as well as other things such as tickets, Genie+, Lightning Lanes, Park Pass Reservations, Disney Springs, Transportation, dining, resorts (value, moderate and deluxe) and many other things.
----------------------------------------------------
UPDATES & CORRECTIONS:
- 😀 parking now free for resort guests.
- 😀 Disney has announced plans to eliminate the need for park pass reservations for guests with date based tickets starting 9 January 2024. Woohoo!
- 😡 As of June 27th, guests will be forced to buy Genie+ based on what (and how many) parks they want to visit. I.e. Genie+ pricing will be park specific and your purchase will either be for a single park or multiple parks. You'll be able to pick between a single park option, or a multiple-parks option. The multiple parks option works the same as the current genie+ service with a valid park hopper. Furthermore, prices for Genie+ will depend on what park you select. The genie+ price might be lower at some parks compared to others. So, going forward genie+ pricing will be influenced by whether you want to use it for multiple parks, which park you pick (assuming you choose just one), and the you plan to visit.

This was the best video I've seen for first timers. Every other video I've watched left me with more questions than answers. Your video was the most in-depth and straight forward I've seen. Thank you so much for walking us through even the basics! Very grateful for this.

Amazing video. Your explanations are so clear. Can't thank you enough 😊
Excellent work as ever - great level of detail and superbly well produced! I knew very little about the actual workings of lightening land and Genie plus via the app, so great to see the walk through. It does strike me as increasingly amazing that Disney manages to charge hundreds and thousands of dollars to battle for reservations and experience such an incredibly high level of hassle and inconvenience under the guise of a holiday, but I guess the demand is clearly still there!

An absolutely brilliant video, in fact all of your videos are great but this one which covers everything can’t be beaten. I last visited Disney 7 years ago and a lot has changed especially the use of technology by way of the App and this video has clarified everything that looked very daunting on first glance. The walk through using screen shots is especially helpful, the unbiased advice and clearly very knowledgeable guides are making my upcoming visit more eagerly anticipated. Thank you for your efforts.
Being a largely visual learner, this is wonderful!! The map views are super helpful and broken down so well!! Just doing research for a future bucket list cross off on a rainy day, but this is just what I needed to start with having not been to the parks since my parents took me in the 80s.
Love your videos so so much! I really appreciate all the hard work and research you put in.

When buying tickets (for anywhere in Orlando) look around February. Universal always runs a promo where you get 5 days at their parks for 234 dollars or around that price, which is a killer deal because otherwise it’s over 100 dollars per day. And you can book this over 6 months in advance so if you want to go in the summer or fall you can still do that

Top Notch Video like your others from recent weeks and months. The clean talk, sweet presentation and tips are a welcome change to most other reviewers. I was in Orlando last year for the first time and got hit by the hurricane, was there alone for a week and stayed at a universal hotel. I was at both Magic Kingdom Park and Hollywood Studios and felt a bit lost there, at least I was able to book for a fast lane rise of the resistance, the best non thrill ride of my life. Your guide would have helped for sure :) As a European I think that the food in both disney parks was extremely good but like you said, very pricey. Liked and subscribed

We're taking our boys to Orlando in May for the first visit. We're staying onsite at Universal Resort and have got the three park pass for there, but wanted to do a one day trip to Disney. None of us are at all into Disney on the whole but my boys are Star Wars mad so want to go to the Hollywood Studios for the day for Galaxy's Edge. The more I watch and read the more I'm completely put off doing so, one day park tickets aren't great value anyway and then the major ride you want (Rise of the Resistance) you might not even be able to get on. Feels like a real headache, glad Universal is much simpler 😞

No I haven’t done that yet. I know despicable three did an interesting vlog of that. Seems like the bus journey after the flight could be a bit of a pain.
An improved video for someone like myself who is going in September this year to Disney World, but I’m wondering where is the laundry to wash the clothes, do you use a key for a locker at the water theme parks and is there a back way to Epcot?
I'm a Disneyland regular and I'm amazed at how sparse the rides are I'm magic kingdom. Disneyland may have fewer parks but they sure fit a lot into their magic kingdom.
First time going to Orlando next year. Do you think it’s possible to do Disney and Universal in one trip? Or better to just focus on one? Thanks for your vids!
Have to admit that genie plus and lightning lane nonsense takes ALL of the magic out of the experience...mind boggling and complex. Makes me v want to rethink the trip ALTOGETHER!

Yeah these are great videos in fairness. Returning to Orlando for the first time since 2012 this summer. I've no fear of Universal, but I'm slightly dreading the changes that the Mouse has made. I remember complaining back then how inferior the Disney parks were (never visited Universal as a kid) compared to my first visit in 92. How innocent I was.

Yeah I’m very nostalgic for the same period with Disney World!
Genie plus is much more like maxpass that Disneyland used rather than fastpass plus. I also somewhat controversially think Genie plus would be a good system... if they dumped individual lightning lane, which adds cost and complication that is very unnecessary.

I’d like to see a new video on mickeys not spooky Halloween party and about the shops in Disney spring’s like the coka cola store and M&Ms store.
@TheFrugalBrit Quick one- can I add on a park hopper to my standard/base 1-day ticket AFTER entering a park? To be clearer, assuming we’re already in Magic Kingdom and decide after a few hours that we want to go to EPCOT, can we approach guest relations or a cast member to purchase or add on a park hopper option that’ll allow us to switch parks? If this is permitted, is there a cut-off time after which it would be impossible? Thanks in advance.
We are planning our first ever trip to Disney with our 4 year old daughter- we are considering the beach club, wilderness lodge and the polynesian. Would love some help! thank you! xoxo
