An hour of live modular techno practice, no talking.
I’m rebuilding my #live #Eurorack Techno/Electro modular, making a few changes. Here is nearly an hour of chronologically edited moments from behind the scenes practice sessions (not a 'set', per se, more me exploring ideas). I'm noting its weak spots, but allowing time to confirm whether in fact the hardware is fine...but it’s the software that needs improvement (spoiler alert: it always does.)
➜ Here's my Patreon, please chip in if you can: / mylarmelodies 🙌
➜ Here's the system on ModularGrid to go investigate the modules: www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/v...
I will be making an overview video on where I'm at with this at the end of the month, please ask your questions and I'll try to include answers in the video!!

You already explained in great detail what Stevio does with the switch mults, any chance on giving more detail about what exactly he does with the precision adder? + Any good tips on the performance part itself, for example how do you continuously switch lead sounds and melodies while they are playing ? Do you audition the sounds in your headphones ? There are lots of videos on how to do a dj performance (from beat matching to transitions & tips and tricks) for modular there are only module videos and patch videos, but almost no how to perform with you modular groovebox videos ... Thanks for the guidance in my modular journey so far, cheers ...

Here's a handful: How do you approach sequencing? I see you're using the long awaited 2 grids setup AND a triggerriot! All for drums? Or are you sneaking in the steevio style here? How do you move on from a tune? You feel like you've come to the point that you need to progress. Do you always embrace the slow change? Or do you sometimes dive into the deep end and try to make a more radical change? I see you ditched the Dixie for the DCO (same here) why have you changed the Dixie and not the Plaits? Also the metropolis is a goner. Why the marbles and not the turing machine (Surgeon style)? Last but not least if you HAD to let go of the plaits what chord machine would you go to? (uBraids is my chord baby at the moment)
Incredible. More live jams please. Actually more of everything. But especially more live jams. Just more. Keep up the legendary work Alex.
A man and his machine ...aawsome !!
This is the video that broke my laptop over a year ago. I’m honestly not even mad!
This is Ace! Looking forward to the walkthrough vid!
dope. makes me thing I should get a grids, love these little interspersed hats and such
I don't own a modular synth. Every time you make a video, I get a massive GAS phase, planning a rack I can't afford and binging module demo videos. And everytime I recover from this, you post another video, sending me down the rabbit hole once more 🙃

Nice video concept... always nice to hear you evolving musically. nice mix
any time you post these modular techno vids i get so excited
MMMmmmm jam and spaghetti. My favourite dinner!
Great video and jam, keep watching with my head tilted 45 degrees to see what's going on =D Can't wait for the follow up video.
Great club music man! I want to jump up and down with my hand up in the air.
Thanks for sharing, Alex!
Great jam even the ferns rocking along!
I struggle with many of the same questions. Don't doubt what you are exploring-This is REALLY good!
Ooo! I love the new setup! Double Grids and Marbles! AKEMIE’s Taiko! Awesome! Sounding great! 😎
The art is, not losing it. Well done
That is so good 🤟🏼

In effect there's not much difference between the practice and the final thing...except experience - which come to think of it makes all the difference
If this is practice only I can't wait to see the real thing.
Some of my fav modules in there! Akemie's is an underrated gem!
Would describe this as Spirally Hypnoticus, great, thank you
Such a relaxing jam to listen to. Especially the section around 35:02 onwards. Really hypnotic!
Sick jam! My tilted head throroughly enjoyed it! 😊😊😊

Nice. You seem to be evolving to have a lot more rhythmic change and interest the longer you develop these jams.
Oh thanks for sharing but.. thank you so so much for the MG rack! My neck appreciates this! 😅
Wow the Flow is Groove and mega
i'd be very impressed if i heard this set in a club... fair play!
WOOOO killer vibes, Alex!! Marbles + 2 Grids seems like a killer combo: Are marbles acting as a replacement for your metropolis here? You seem to have trimmed down on modulation sources - Is this because you want to do more things manually? Is there a reason that you won’t use smaller DYI versions of modules to save space? Talk about those soundforce modules as well as that sisters filter! Kisses xoxo
Nice description "building an arsenal of tricks that you can perform on your modular". Thats also why i dont do the patch form scratch. trying to build the ultimate jamstation. Hope you do another rig rundown with the new setup!! BTW just got the endorphine Golden Master it's a great module for the final mix output from the modular!
Nice riffage, sounds great!
good guy
The bass in that first section really sounds like the main hook from Jigoo!
35:02 I shouted "get outta here!" alone in my house with headphones on
Smashed it at 19:12 - ACE!
This is really good. If you do some shows around Yorkshire when covid is over, i'll defintely come.

I feel like you have gone up a level Alex mate I’m looking forward to you explaining what’s new and how you are doing this Super cohesive man. More DJ stylee !! Respect
Nice :-)
I've always wanted to just find jams like this and make beat saber tracks to them, to just zone out on while getting exercise
I just don't feel it man Just kidding sounds dope, love your videos
This is so good! I can’t get my head around patching a melodic/hi part that is morphable into different enough sounds for longer performances. Bass and drum changes I can figure out. How do you approach that?
When getting a new system like this, do you think its good to try and go against its intended design to try and find new ways to use something you normally wouldn't have, or do you just like diving into what you know you want out of it and try and find the best way for you to make that happen?
this is pure dope m8, the only ? i'd have is : how fun ?

That is a great question.
Nice. Looking at the MG layout, I was expecting to see more Oscillators, given the amount of synth sounds.
Ace ✊
Great jam as always, using two Grids is probably endless variations on your beats. 1) is dual grids a keeper? 2) do you improvise as you go with small evolving changes or do you actually prepare big changes? 3) how would you prepare a drop? (this is keeping me buzy for many days, I'd probably go for a polyend preset to attenuate many targets at once - and then boom) or maybe a DJ style filter. - also cool how the plant seems to grow into the patch cables :).
Great jam. I find myself missing the glow of Euclidean Circles, though. What made you decide to drop it from this case?
@markbooth

2 Grids by the looks of it
Question: do you prefer the Soundforce modules over the Intellijel Atlantis - performance- and sound-wise? And where is the Metropolis hidden 😉
Track at 45 minutes is magic!! Would love to know how are you making both the bass and melody.
Some real Autechre vs DMX Krew shit going down at 23:00
Love it, especially around 10-12 minutes! What are you using for reverb, given I can see a Shared System black verb discarded disdainfully off to the right lol

Mimeophon - If I could fit in the Erbe verb as well I’d have it back for sure, love that thing. But Mimeophon is a good bare minimum
How are you using Marbles in this? Are you finding the Dual Branches *Edit dual Grids* more performable than the Euclidean Circles?

Nice Jam but what happen with the Euclidean what you replaced it with I thought to go only one beast sequencer but something tells me not so I end up with Euclidean v2, B muxlicer, NE MD, clock by PNW try other eloquencer and others every time some sync issues and keep my BSP you can beat that for the price keep jamming, peace out Bro
Reeeally nice ! Is the order of the video chronological ? I have the vague feeling that your songs became more complexe and "Mylaresque" as the video went on. What modules did you remove from your previous setup, and why (especially if they are considered "good" modules) ?

Sensei, What happened to Branches? Perfect for your TipTop hats, no? I love to have me some ALM Yamaha (FM) action these days. Love that you brought this in! And the mimeo, "pad bed thing". And love your variation in the drums, and how changing the kickall shape leads to that blown out over compressed sound. Tip of the 🎩, M8
