I really appreciate the authentic look of the colors, but was the paper really THAT faded and yellowed at the time that the originals were printed? Especially for Amazing Fantasy?

Enjoyed your video. I also bought this collection for the facsimile since it’s the only issue I’m missing in my Vol 1 collection and an original copy is no longer affordable. That’s a shame about the bent corner. I would have pursued that with Folio.

Thank you for this video. Taschen is reprinting Silver Age Marvel comics in an XXL size, about 20 issues at a time. They've already released Spider-Man, Avengers and FF. Each book is basically a collection of facsimiles. Every issue has glossy front and back covers, but the interior pages are printed on the highest quality matte paper.

At $170 CAN it's still worth it just for the reproductions of #121 & 122. There are two sets of scans. The weaker ones are provided by Marvel, the more brilliant ones from collectors' comics. These are meticulous scans taken directly from actual comics and reflect how they were originally published. I compared my copy of ASM #90 with the one in the book and other than the superior FS paper, you cannot tell the difference side by side. My copy of ASM #121 which I bought off the stands in March 1973 is long gone, but the replica in the book is exactly how I remembered it the first time I opened the cover (before the colors were 'remastered:). I'm obviously in the 'granddad' category of readers from the late silver and early bronze age of Marvel, and this edition, along with the Taschen over-size volume, was most welcome and appreciated. This is the next best thing to owning the original issues. It's for fans who want to experience what I experienced in the early years of Marvel, reading the comics as I read them, seeing the art and colors as I saw it. I'm very grateful to have this.

Would you day the issues collected here are good for someone's first exposure to spidey comics (but well familiar wjth movies and shows)?

@@latestred6510 The hardcover Penguin classics version isnt bad, but it still uses the bright white paper and over saturated colors from every other collection of silverage comics. They recently announced a relaunch of the Marvel Masterworks line, with improved more accurate coloring. So, since we're probably going to get pretty good looking affordable books soon, I'd hold off on the current penguin classics.

@@betaraybrad91 Bear in mind that if you look after it, in ten years time or so it will still look brand new. Even 20 years time. Whereas those who don't, will see theirs all dog eared and creases here and there. Which means that tiny crease in the bottom right of the front page will be nothing in comparison. I've got Folio books from 18 years ago that look like I bought them yesterday.

By the way, the crease in the bottom right corner happened with the one I bought too - exactly the same. Must have been some careless employee at the FS.
