An Evening with Tucker Carlson: America's Elites Are on a Ship of Fools

Buy Tucker Carlson's book, "Ship of Fools: How a Selfish Ruling Class Is Bringing America to the Brink of Revolution"
www.amazon.com/gp/product/150...
Tucker's presentation begins at 5:41.
This event was held October 16, 2018 and hosted by the Independent Institute.
Tucker Carlson discusses America's elites, a group whose power and wealth from government privilege have grown beyond imagination even as the rest of the country has floundered. The people who run America now barely interact with it, and in his #1 New York Times, best-selling book, "Ship of Fools," Carlson offers a blistering critique of our new overlords. Traditional liberals who worried about whales and defended free speech have been replaced by authoritarians who hide their hard-edged agenda behind identity politics. They’ll fleece you while lecturing you about bathrooms, plastic straws, and safe spaces.
“Left and right,” Carlson says, “are no longer meaningful categories in America. The rift is between those who benefit from the status quo, and those who don’t.” Our leaders are fools, Carlson concludes, “unaware that they are captains of a sinking ship.” At this event, and in his signature fearless and witty style, he addresses the all-important question: How do we put the country back on course?

Tucker Carlson is so refreshingly self efacing (I'm not an abstract thinker, I really am a talk show host) yet he has one of the fastest, most agile minds in public speaking and commentating. It's partly gift, partly experience and a fair dose of disciplined, rapid-fire concentration. He really is a tour de force in the journalistic world and his cache of eloquence, knowledge and how to order them will continue to grow.

I bet if you could get into his head and see his thoughts, he's in perpetual argument with himself, about EVERYTHING, trying to destroy his own arguments before he makes them. If you can destroy your own argument, you should never table it in the first place. only when you fail to destroy your own arguments, do you put it forth with confidence. He does this with remarkable speed. He's a master of high speed critical thinking, and that makes him by definition, a genius. I'm quite sure he could pick up just about any subject you care to mention and engage in meaningful conversation, learning as he converses, using his critical thinking ability, the art of winging it. learning to do something like computer programming would be trivial to him, so trivial he's probably never even considered it.

My personal story sort of verifies Tucker's observations. I was: born 1936 in VA; Graduated from High School 1954; attended U of Mich 1954-1957; married Feb on 1957; moved to CA...to Death Valley..(my father died Dec 1956) left a tungsten mine in death valley. with time and husband completeing Univ of Mich. 1960 moved to CA. Lived in CA til 2019 then moved to S.Carolina. The important core beliefs I carried with me from VA to CA to now: THE BILL OF RIGHTS, MY LOVE AND RESPECT (awe) for THE CONSTITION OF OUR REPUBLIC and FOR THE RIGHT OF EACH PERSON IN THIS COUNTRY TO BE FREE TO CHOOSE AND BE PREPARED TO STAND ON THAT CHOICE AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONSEQUENCES OF THAT CHOICE. I believe that my journey has given me the sort of resolve, clarity and trust in my fellowman that I don't believe " we have to get it right all the time", but as long as we love our neighbor with deep heartfelt love, claiming our common humanity. We can stand strong and reach beyond our understanding for ways to, in small and large ways, bring heaven to earth. Thank you, Tucker for your voice.. one of these days we'll get there!!

I was so enamored with California that I planned to exit the Army and stay in the Monterey area. At the last minute, I re-enlisted and of course the Army sent me to S. Korea and I never returned to CA. Through the years, I watched as California slid into the leftist muck, and realized that it was no longer a place I wanted to be. So... I'm thankful for things like last minute decisions, and that the Army never leaves you in one place too long.

There is 100 % a selfish ruling class bringing America to the brink of revolution, the middle class is disappearing, and the elites are 100% to blame. The problem is, Tucker is using all of this to distort the actual truth. Carlson was a senior fellow at the CATO institute ( an organization funded by the Kochs) This youtube account? The independent institute? Funded by the Kochs. The Kochs are the nasty elites you want to look out for and Tucker has been doing their dirty work for years. DokktorDeth Thanks for the smug, sarcastic explanation. The question of whether the migrants are, in fact, frightened, confused, tired, etc. is one of the questions at issue. Did they come from a war zone? Didn’t they refuse asylum in Mexico? And if they come into your home without your permission, after they were explicitly told no, then it seems to me they forced their way in, even if the force used was modest. So, that sounds like an invasion to me. It is not a military invasion, true, but if people came into your grandma’s house after she told them no, insistently, and took things then the police would classify that as a “home invasion” style robbery, and that is the analogy I was drawing.

The USA leftist rejection of the outcome of the last presidential election, their rejection of the notion that people who don’t share their views are entitled to a say in who should govern and what government should do or not do, is a repudiation of the central tenets of the system they claim to be protecting. I love your comment! I absolutely agree with Tucker that there are some Americans who seem to have forgotten what it means to be an American. My father was a Sargent in the Army. He was also an Apache man. To him the two were almost the same in some ways. To him his homeland in New Mexico often extended out to encompass America because he was also an American and dedicated to defending it. If Tucker is correct that there are a few law makers who are standing some of America's founding truths on their heads, then perhaps it is time for others and myself to remember we come from a warrior tradition. Thank you Sir!

Well, as a American who is a big fan of Australian sports (especially of AFL, but also a fan of BBL & Australian Test Cricket minus Steve Smith's cheating and that bit w the glasses at the 2019 Ashes) I have to say you are correct about US politics historically and our current struggle with the US left. We'll see how Trump does. His supporters size things up as you do. The left we are battling here who are throwing away our American heritage are an international problem bent on erasing Western Culture as a whole. We can see that in how Jordan Peterson is treated in Canada, the UK etc. I bet you have your fair share of it down under just like the Us,Canada, and the UK. Support Trump. He isn't perfect. But he is giving the international leftwing elites a good fight. Left wing lunnies, who needs them????!!!!!!!! Asked myself who was formally a lunnie leftie who worked for Greenpeace and then grew up. Go Australia!!!!!!!! Congrats on the recent test victory over NZ!!!!!!c

Tucker's admission that he "didn't care" about free speech or due process while it was the Republican Establishment abusing the system makes me question his sincerity regarding his sense of fairness, it looks a lot more like his defence of civil liberties is naked self-interest.

In other words, you're as dumb as a democrat. They never asked that question either. Not honestly, because they already had their cliche answers--Trump won because all the racists votee for him, or the xenophobes, or homophobe s yadda yadda yadda.

@Bradley Rocket Trump got elected by breaking through the "blue wall" surrounding Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. He won the swing states of Ohio and Florida. North Carolina was up in the air too and Trump won it. Trump campaigned in a manner that brought him success in all these states and he got their electoral votes and he beat Hillary. Hillary never visited Wisconsin even though her two-term ex-president husband said it would be a good idea. She was an unlikable candidate and she campaigned weakly and stupidly. If there was not an electoral college and the US was a direct Democracy, Trump would have campaigned differently. He may have lost but he may not have. It is a fool's errand to try and extrapolate a direct democracy outcome from an electoral college race. It would be like an NFL fan running around telling anyone who'll listen that his team won the Super Bowl because they had more total yards, even though the opposing team scored 10 more points. After the twentieth time people would just shake their head and tell him to shut the fuck up for the nineteenth time because he's a stupid jackass.
