I express my deep appreciation to Richard Dawkins for the profound impact he has had on my life. As a former Muslim from Afghanistan, I struggled for years with the dogma and contradictions of my faith. It wasn't until I discovered Dawkins' writings on religion, atheism and science that I began to question the beliefs that had been ingrained in me since childhood. His clarity of thought, eloquence, and unapologetic critique of religion opened my eyes to the irrationality and harmfulness of religious beliefs. Thanks to his work, I was able to overcome my fears and doubts, and leave Islam behind to embrace a life free from the constraints of religion. Richard Dawkins has been a true inspiration to me, and I am forever grateful for the courage and insight he has brought to the world.

Professor Dawkins opened my eyes and thinket with his masterpiece “The god Delusion” this classical book should be made part of the reading and curriculum in every High School before seniors graduate, then let the 17 yr old senior decide, reason or delusion.

@@topologyrob Can you be specific? As someone well educated in the provenance, history, and tenets of the major religions, I hear no misinformation. All these religions are based on supposed events that can never have happened because they contravene the laws of nature, which by definition cannot be contravened. I can understand the need for comfort, meaning, and belonging, but the requirement to check one's brain at the church/mosque/synagogue/temple/etc. door is really regrettable, and the histories of these religions are the histories of brainwashed mobs believing that they are right, everyone else is wrong, and "unbelievers" deserve to be persecuted and murdered--and their god will reward them for so doing. Sigh.

Dawkins’ “Best Evidence for Evolution” disappears before his eyes. Famous Evangelical atheist Richard Dawkins used to teach that the “best evidence for evolution” was that organisms; which were similar to each other have similar DNA. This is pure supposition and absolute speculation driven by a passion to obliterate God from the equation of life. Richard Dawkins claimed that genetic research proved Darwin’s tree of life; nothing could be further from the truth. These claims were made before we learned more about DNA and RNA and in 2009 he got his book published: “The Greatest Show on Earth” in which he taught that Darwin’s Tree of Life was supported by the pattern of resemblances, that you see when you compare genes. The fossil record does not support Darwin’s Tree of Life, because there is no evidence of transitional fossils in the actual earth’s geology demonstrating evolution. There is no evidence that plants and animals diversified from a Common Ancestor over millions of years, being due to imaginary evolution. In 2009, the same year, New Scientist magazine ran an article with the title: “Why Darwin was wrong about the Tree of Life.” In it, scientists stated that the Tree of Life was “mis-leading” because Darwin’s theory limits and even obscures the study of organisms and their ancestries end of quote. The “best evidence for creation” is the fossil record, finding only fully formed organisms in Cambrian rocks. Our technology has advanced to such a stage that we can now “read” the genes of many different species and it is even clearer now that Dawkins’ “Best Evidence for Evolution” does not exist. Now scientists have sequenced a great number of genomes belonging to different organisms. Casey Luskin, Associated Director of the Center for Science and Culture, wrote for Evolution News, that Dawkins was wrong! Every gene does not deliver approximately the same Tree of Life end of quote. DNA research does not show a Tree of Life. But what is described as “bushes of life” meaning no branching as in Darwin’s Tree of Life, but organisms that reflect the fossil record throughout time with minor variations, these are attributed to kinds within species due to genetic variety until they went extinct. “Genes are dissimilar in their development and unique as they form into the embryos of different organisms. Ernest Haeckel German scientist tried it on; by drawing fraudulent embryos making them look alike, because he loved Darwin’s theory of evolution. At the University of Jena he was convicted of fraud in 1875. When asked why he had lied, he said it is necessary for us to believe in spontaneous generation: that everything made itself by random chance, because the alternative is Creation and that is unthinkable! A lot of people have a similar mind-set today, this is why evolution will not go away as a theory and be buried. It should be disqualified by the “scientific method” today, but there is wide spread indoctrination through the education system with the theory of evolution which should be abandoned, because there is no evidence to support such a theory which has outlived its usefulness. The indoctrination of evolution through the education system is a “back door” to promoting immoral behaviour within the populace. This is the aim and plan of the globalists to bring about chaos, anarchy and confusion, in short lawlessness, whereby they have a legitimate reason to use modern technology to mark and control the masses. It is simple, if you teach students there is no God to answer too, then why bother to behave! Create fear among the populace and they will be happy to except electronic monitoring by those in authority, but first they must create the environment and the people will look to those in authority for a solution: it is called Cause and Effect. The general public need to waken up and smell the coffee as there is a lot of corrupt manipulation going on by the elite billionaires, who are now controlling bank accounts, politics and the education system, where people are taught what to think, not how to think critically. There is a desire to take away your freedom of speech in relation to telling the truth.

This was the best Richard Dawkins event I’ve seen in a really long time (and I’ve seen almost all of them).

I was almost moved to tears during some parts. If I was religious, I would almost think it was a spiritual experience, but it was something even greater. It was the realisation, that I am here, because of my ancestors, that had to fight to survive, over millions of years, even billions going back to that single cell organism, that was the spark of life on our beautiful planet Earth. The realisation that I am related to every living thing, blows my mind. It also makes me feel very humble. No religion could do that.

My question was not about God though, my question was about the religiousity of the experience, though you seem to have a completely different definition of religion as well since yours seem to require a god while mine doesn't. So no, it doesn't answer my question, it raises more questions instead. Perhaps if you were to elaborate on your concepts of 'God' and 'religion' it would make more sense.

I first encountered Richard Dawkins when he was on “Science Friday” on a book tour for “The Ancestor’s Tale”. People calling in were treated very well the host, Ira Flatow, treated him well. He was so good to everyone! Hence, I was very impressed with Prof. Dawkins because he was so kind to everyone!

Fantastic man!¬¬ Deserving of all the science awards, but also I would say a few notable social awards as well. Hitchens never could make his point and unfortunately died before completion of his works, but I feel like Dawkins commands the same points with none of the inescapable bitterness that blighted poor Christopher. Dawkins is forever a humanist and brilliant scientific mind and a man. He speaks with the passion of a 20 year old but with the wisdom of age. Classy man, much respect!

Finally! It's nice to hear someone acknowledge that colorblindness isn't a visual handicap, but is actually very beneficial in ways. Maybe not in the "What Color Is This?" game, or defusing a time bomb, but we can spot things, especially in the woods, much quicker than other people - subtle movements, breaks in pattern, _and_ at a distance. Personally, I've always rather enjoyed people's curiosity and their reactions during the "What Color Is This?" game. So, for me, it all balances out. I don't feel like I'm "missing out" on anything. Maybe colorblindness is _actually_ the evolutionary goal of the human eye. Time will tell. Lol

@@hessambayanifar2987 Sure it does. As I said, pattern breaks are easier to spot, and subtle movement, spotting otherwise "camouflaged" critters... Little things catch my eye so often that I've been asked more than a few times whether I'm on the autism spectrum. I'm not, btw. Also, I grew up in a city environment. Memphis, TN.

As a young undergraduate Biology student I was going through the check list of obtaining a degree , then in a compulsory humanities module the lecturer in passing recommended reading the Blind Watch Maker by Dr Dawkins. I did obtain a copy ..it blew my mind as the saying goes…it is an insight into the mechanics of biological existence , where nucleic acids are the orchestra and some genes are solo or ensemble performers developing themes and movements.While you are here take time to read it.

Out of context, but I think when someone says "I pray for you" in such situation, he is not actually praying for me. It's their way to insult people with other beliefs.

This is well beyond the point, but when I was attending a great lecture by Stephen J. Gould some years ago, a woman stopped and asked if the empty seat next to me has been saved, I couldn't resist saying "No Ma'am, it hasn't found Jesus yet," and instead of laughing she got offended! My friend on the other side made up for it though by cracking up ;)

Almighty’s saying ‏Those whom Allah (in His plan) willeth to guide,- He openeth their breast to Islam; those whom He willeth to leave straying,- He maketh their breast close and constricted, as if they had to climb up to the skies: thus doth Allah (heap) the penalty on those who refuse to believe)). ‏After man was able to reach the sky by flying by modern means of transportation, he knew that the higher up in the air, the less oxygen and atmospheric pressure, which causes severe tightness in the chests and the process of breathing. : ‏How did Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, know this fact before? It was not from him, but from God Almighty’s saying ‏Or (the Unbelievers' state) is like the depths of darkness in a vast deep ocean, overwhelmed with billow topped by billow, topped by (dark) clouds: depths of darkness, one above another: if a man stretches out his hands, he can hardly see it! for any to whom Allah giveth not light, there is no light! ‏Modern sciences have revealed that in the bottom of the deep seas with abundant water - the deep sea - there is great darkness, to the extent that living creatures live in this darkness without visual tools, but live using their other senses such as hearing. ‏These dark darknesses are not found in the sea water that surrounds the Arabian Peninsula, but rather they have been discovered in the oceans far from it ‏This verse shows another aspect of the Qur’anic miracle, which is that the sea wave that all people only knew was one wave in the seas ‏The verse says there is another wave in the depths of the sea, and divers discovered at the beginning of the twentieth century a fact that was hidden in the depths of the sea, that fact that shows another wave that throws divers into it as it is thrown at swimmers, and this wave was discovered by Scandinavian divers. .I will tell you what the Prophet said. The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: One day the Bedouins who live in the desert will build tall towers, and this is my duty. I sat listening about the boy in the library and it brought me to tears. Education now seems to be mechanical and controlled by governments. Passion has been pushed to one side for those minority who are not aloud to express themselves of their true interest in life itself. Freedom to choose and express create a better human being than a systematic system of exams and a particular design system to control the so called general media.

Can understanding bridge the gap between people of low IQ (‹ 80) and those 2% of humanity, who can actually think on today's level (IQ130++) when intelligence is 80% an inherited capacity, and can only be extended by about 20% by education? We need to work at it, but what are the chances of saving sanity of humanity, if people below sanity can multiply 5x faster than those above?

I think so, although I question the veracity of your numbers. We have a tendency to want to dictate and regulate the behavior of what are essentially organisms just trying to survive and thrive and maintain homeostasis in the environments they happen to find themselves in, which itself comes from a tendency to assume that because all brains share a common architecture that they are the same when they most certainly are not. I am of the opinion that both the "bridge" _and_ the "gap" are constructs of our own creation.

I have read Professor Richard Dawkins few books ,including Selfish Gene ,The extended phenotype,Blind watchmaker and I am very happy to understand evolution from gene's perspective.Actually Natural selection is a principle of gene preservation and gene propagation .But calling this principle for the sake of brevity as Natural Selection by Darwin always troubles my mind.We should call it the principle of gene preservation and propagation which makes everything very clear.Thanks.

What does freedom feel like i wonder never experienced it

I’ve never been particularly religious, and like most people in their lives there could have been times when I thought it clever to be anti-religious. Yet, as I have grown older, I have come to look at things in a different light. For instance: I now wonder about what happens to the pain we have caused to other people, and creatures? Does it just dissipate into the Universe as a function of nerve-ending reactions that have no connection to the world that created them, or is there some function of time, where they are all calculated, and made accounted for? To my mind, this makes it possible to make, what we choose to call God, an integral part of what we all are.

I often wonder if evolution isn't blind but obviously not perfect. The complexity of interdependent networks between organisms is astounding. I'm not advocating a god per say but some kind of collective unconsciousness like Carl Jung proposed. So evolution may be guided in some way.

If by "guided" you mean similar to the way in which moving molecules of water are "guided," then I'd have to say yes. I'm no scientist, but I believe that's what "gene flow" is.

@@woodygilson3465 the more I learn the more confused I get my passion is history, psychology and I don't know who couldn't be interested in biology and evolution is like where biology and history meet. But much smarter people than me have proposed some interesting ideas which I don't think can be entirely discounted yet maybe time will tell. I don't believe we have the whole story yet like we can't create life yet from the basic components I know scientist are working on it. We don't fully understand conscience yet either.

No. To ask "who" is a leading question that presupposes an agent; a being with an identity. There's no reason to assume there's any agent and no evidence of one either. In other words, there's absolutely nothing logical about asking "who" at all! Asking "How?" is reasonable and doesn't presuppose an answer - By asking "how?" and NOT "who?" you don't have to make pretend you know something you don't actually know. It's more honest and humble!

I am a Muslim; my interest in science was not developed till I started listening to Richard Dawkins's interviews, debates, lectures along with reading his books. Putting it mildly, my interest in science deloved by leaps and bounds when I further came to know about Stephen Hawking, Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, Daniel Dannit, etc., and other religious scholars such as Zakir Naik, Israr Ahmad, Mufti Menk, Ahmad Deedat, etc., along with cohot of ex-muslims: Marriam, Sultan Harris, Ayan etc. Well, I am still a Muslim; it did not shake my faith at all; I have no idea why some say that they decided to go otherway is necessary move, while, for me, it was advancing the knowledge, which cemented my belief in my faith more. He has done a tremendous job to let others know how science works in simplicity by not presenting nebulous reasons and proofs. To me, he seems to be innocent, just presenting the results. However, he knows that he is not fully an atheist, but still, is willing to be the other one on the proof. This is his decision to be remain non-believer, as I have my right to be the one loyal and honest with my religion. Thank you for reading.

If you had been born in Europe you'd quite possibly be a devout Christian, unshaken by the conspicuously absurd words of the Quran. Or If you had been born in Borough Park, NYC, you'd likely be an Orthodox Jew, unshaken by the conspicuously ridiculous claims in the New Testament and the Quran. But the best evolved people transcend the mythologies from humanity's "Age of Ignorance" and embrace our real place in the universe. Love.

Richard Dawkins said many times that he does not know how the world came into being as well as physical laws as he was not there when it all happened. The same I can say regarding what you asked. The question is not about winning the arguments or showing off knowledge, but about reconciliation and understanding one another to live in harmony. Thank you for reading.

Immortality? You can't be serious.

I like the "watchmaker" analogy, while we see life also has its machinery at molecular level, but must be built up incrementally, so you need singular steps from past forms to current forms. It makes sense to me that natural selection is NECESSARY to explain evolution, but its not clear it is sufficient. That is, we can consider DNA may not be all there is, and epigenetic is not all there is, but there could be a "field of life" of some sort, yet unidentified, that also contains information telling living beings how to behave. We can't prove that is true or false yet, but if we send life to Mars or deep space, we might find organic chemistry doesn't work there as on earth. And if we found that we could consider some sort of field on earth is affecting living development. It is surprising outside the Gaia hypothesis, I don't see any such ideas. People just assume life is modular matter, so take an isolate seed, and provide water, soil, heat and light on Mars, and it should sprout just like earth. We have sent humans to the moon for 1 week, but otherwise haven't tried to keep life alive for extended periods above low earth orbit of space stations. It could be life can function farther from earth for short periods, but not long periods. Maybe 10% chance, but worth knowing before we send humans to Mars and find their health failing half way there!

I think Dawkins' selfish-gene theory is right. We are vehicles for the genes to survive and reproduce. But that's not all we are. We (and any other intelligent lifeforms in the universe) are the reason for the existence of the universe. The Physical Constants point to fine-tuning and a fine-tuner. I believe it created this System to bring about Life and consciousness outside of Itself.

@@briansmith3791 The universe doesn't exist for us, we exist because of it, it's not tuned for us one bit. It's we are made by it hence we fit it. We are just biology and outside of family etc no more important than any life and insignificant in the long scheme of things. We will one day be no more and nothing will know or care we ever existed. Most of the life of the university had no life as farcas we know and earth only here for half ish and most of earths history has no intelligent life to speak of.
