An evening with Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Rhiannon Giddens

Музыка

Rhiannon is a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, MacArthur Fellowship recipient and artistic director of social-impact organization and musical ensemble, Silkroad. She wrote the music for the ballet “Black Lucy & the Bard” (aka “Lucy Negro, Redux”) and the libretto and music for her original opera, “Omar.” In October 2022, Giddens published “Build a House,” which celebrates Black history and culture in her unflinching, uplifting and gorgeously illustrated children’s picture book.
On Point host Meghna Chakrabarti moderated this conversation with Giddens at WBUR CitySpace on April 13, 2023.

Great interview, and an absolutely amazing artist!👏🏼 Such raw talent and deeply meaningful material. 32:04 A conduit is right, but a totally pure and strongly connected conduit.

i saw the carolina chocolate drops open for bob dylan maybe a dozen years ago and enjoyed the music while paying the most attention to how beautiful and talented she personally was. i look forward to new record as i've liked everything she's done. i've read interviews and seen her interviewed a few times but this is the best one i've seen.

Powerful on so.many levels A Reflection. The human need for home and how we somehow romantize our roots and fail to recognize the broader picture of suffering of others ancestors and cultures A comment from a Black friend born in Africa commenting on the life he left who came to Canada, Most of those still in Africa WISH their ancestors had been brought to America as slaves. Peace

I hope you will sometime focus on where the women were when black males invented the banjo in the Caribbean. Is that part of your consciousness and future goals? I hope so.

The funny thing about America is how as it trys to prove that we have passed rascism and fascist attitudes we show how rascist, misogynist and fascist we still are. Mike Johnson and the rest of the christians in the gov. of USA prove the point.
