A look at Framlingham Castle in Suffolk, England.
The 12th century castle was home to the Dukes of Norfolk for over 400 years, before later becoming the home of Mary Tudor. Mary was proclaimed Queen of England at the castle in July 1553, after she deposed of Lady Jane Grey, who English politicians had proclaimed as Mary’s brother Edward VI’s heir, due to Mary’s desire to reverse Protestant reforms.
The internal buildings of the castle were demolished in the 17th century, and a workhouse was built in their place. Later on, the castle was used by the British army as a defence against a potential German invasion in WWII.
The castle is now owned by English Heritage and is known for featuring in the lyrics of the Ed Sheeran song, ‘Castle on the Hill’.
