From my point of view the cat is something symbolic, it is his family, his home and what he cares for, when he has to leave it is because he is leaving what he loves, knows and believes, the cat is scared and does not want to go because it is a trip practically suicidal, but in the end there is nothing left for the child so he just leaves.

Im thinking he just left his parents and his cat in the war Or that he was the only to escape... Although I also think the cardboard boat is a symbol for flimsy or a slim chance. There is a slim chance that he will die before he can reach a place of safe haven. In the end, He dies, the cat dies which symbolizes everything he has which are a parent, a home, and a pet.

It’s true and West world take care of a few refugee to cover weapons industries business. All humanity organization if they really want do something they should stop weapon business to dictators and terrorists. Just taking care of a few refugees it won’t help people but only weapon industries and banks

My friend is Syrian and survived the civil war. Unfortunately, it's still an ongoing war but I hope it's peaceful in the future when war ends. Thank you for supporting and giving Syrian people support! 😢

For 9 years we are living this life , in camps and with fear.since 2014 despite the war and killing my community ,we are are still fighting for living in a country between people who don’t respect our religion and how we suffer 😊

I cried at the end because the little ship was made of cardboard. I thought it would eventually get wet and sink; it was just a matter of time. So for me it was like he was going to die and he was saying goodbye to his cat ;;;-;;;;

I think from the beginning the child was dead because of the bomb, but he didnt realize that. He died in his 'box'. And then at the end we can see that he acrossed the sea and the cat didnt want to join just because the cat is still alive and the boy was dead already and is going to heaven. Just my 2 cents. Btw its a really good short animation.

I don't know but I take this story like this. The house at the beginning is his dream. And the firework is a representation of the sound of machine guns and bombs he heard in his real body (in the camp). When he woke up in the box, that's the real world where he lived. You can see the picture of his family in the home at the beginning and the image of his parents fading away, that's mean his parents already die, and that house was just a dream. And when he sailing to the sea, I assumed that he's already dead. Not because the ship will sink, but because he's starving to death in the box. The cat knows. After all, the house and the sea were just a dream. I feel so sad thinking about our brothers and sisters in the war zone. Because this case happens every time.

I knew I was going to cry as soon as I saw the innocent boy and his cat. This makes me think of all the innocent little kids who lost their families to war. And not just that, the adults, too. War is a terrifying thing. And it's so stupid.

Perfect depiction of what war does to people. They doesn't get any facilities and live likes dead people's always hungry, no shelter just they want to live.

I feel like the cat represents the heart of the little boy . Even if he's far away , his heart is still there ♡

After seeing the plight of Palestinian children , this movie seems even more realistic and relevant. Its unfortunately the kids who suffer the most in wars.

I live in Greece. Every now and then refugees from Syria manage to make it to our shores. Others, quite tragically, get drowned in their desperate attempt. Their situation is extremely difficult. Most people here we try to give them whatever support and respite we can, regardless of our own grave economical problems which, no matter how serious, appear very small compared to theirs, having lost their very homes, pour souls. At the end of the day, one realises that both they and us are victims of the international corporations and banksters, and that the definitive solution consists in actively fighting side-by-side to get our countries back. Perhaps the little cat was wise and had precisely this in mind.

Frankly, I do not think that Greece and other European countries are helping refugees. Turkey makes almost all of the aid provided by itself. European countries do not want refugees, but they act as if they are sensitive in such cases.

Even though the cat is highlighted here..the story is based on the box.at first the boy builts a beautiful home with it..just like his home...but after the disaster .like his city turned to a slum..his box turned to just a shelter.and he is running for the only hope he has..(the box).atlast the box turns to a boat which represents his last hope.even tho the cat tells him ti stay on land...he is not giving up his hope. This itself is the pathetic Condition of syria.... Well created👏

I think that the boy actually died at the starting but he didn't knew it. The sea was the path of heaven and the birds were the freed souls. He left the cat there because it was still alive. I love this story, it's just the best

In my opinion the boy was still alive. And the boat made out of cardboard is symbol to his future. He literally has nothing to rely on. The possibility of him living further life is like a paper boat in this enormous sea called life. But he takes his chance with his paper boat and being separated from everything he could call “his”. His country, his relatives, his memories and so on (cat is the symbol for those)

IMO The cat sense danger and was telling the boy to not cross the sea and be on land instead. The box (boat) will soon be destroyed by the sea so therefore there is a chance that the boy will die. But then the boy still cross the sea. We didn't know what's on his mind. Maybe its a suicide or maybe its his hope.

If you think about it, religions and ideologies are the cause of most wars so far. Humans must set their ideologies and religions to the sides, recognize their differences and work together. The best solution would be to peacefully unite all religions into a grand scheme based on logic and sciences, so that no group will be capable of splitting off stating they deliver the only true message.

Reflecting the true happening in this world. Meaningful story.

After the end, I realised it was dedicated to a kid in Syria. Though, this movie had a different meaning as well if we do not relate to writer's thought is that : As a child you grow in a box , the bombs and thunder are difficulties you face after you grow up and during the journey you seek for support of your parents to balance you after a failure, but sadly you carry that box filled with disappointments, sadness , sorrow, memories by yourself. In the end he left his pet behind due to weight as the boat would sink describes that when you are ready to move on with that box either in form of plane or boat, you gotta leave few things and people behind to avoid sinking or crashing again.

When the boy had to leave his cat behind, my heart ached. I could never think of leaving my kitty

It used to be a peaceful country But humans greed ruins it Wishes the best for Syrian Love from Malaysia ^^

When you are child and something unexpected happen you tend to try to forget try to hide but then you will realise it is all true. I am refuge living in EU but I was born and rise in war, to be spread from your parents, siblings and friends and the environment you lived in is a trauma you will always care with you

5:30 kitty's eyes shows the separation sadness and his turning round shows his competion to his master cum friend and meowing shows a way to say goodbye. Great combo of kitty and boy friendship.

It’s funny how everyone pities the cat, cats are scavengers, they can survive on their own, hunt and look for food. It’s very likely the cat will survive on its own. If the kid brought the cat, there was no food, either the kid will starve and kill the cat for food or the cat will starve to death. The cat knew better and didn’t go. The Kid oth is most likely a corpse washed up on a beach or dead in the middle of the ocean like alot of refugees who try to flee on boat. Everyone pities the cat but not the dead child.

Realistically speaking that is true, however this film is more about symbolism. The horrors and trauma brought by the disappearance of his parents. The sacrifices and guilt that he have to leave behind represented by his cat. The struggle and near impossible decisions you have to make as seen with the boy. (Sorry if my grammar is wrong)
