An Architect's Own Tiny Cabin (Cabin Tour)
Ойын-сауық
Coromandal Bach, an architect's own tiny cabin, is designed by Crosson Architects as a functional holiday home. The timber residence is the ideal place of retreat away from busy urban life.
Settled on the eastern side of The Coromandel Peninsula, Coromandel Bach is an architect’s own tiny cabin. The holiday house sits on a site with no other buildings; no bush, just a north-facing view to white sandy beaches and a series of islands.
As an architect’s own tiny cabin, Coromandel Bach expresses a studious approach to form and function. In a manner reminiscent of a suitcase, the architecture of the home can fold open or closed depending on the needs of the occupant, protecting its interior from the natural elements in some instances or embracing the outdoors in others.
The inspiration underpinning Coromandel Bach’s ‘refined camping’ is thoroughly executed, as would be expected in an architect’s own tiny cabin. Crosson Architects omits curtains and drapes from the interior design, enabling occupants to rise with the sun. Nature is celebrated using natural timber and through innovative features such as a bathtub on wheels that allows bathing outdoors in the morning sun or under the stars.
A unique example of an architect’s own tiny cabin, Coromandal Bach is a textural building with an innate sense of dynamism. The residential experience proposed by Crosson Architects is synonymous with the experience of nature.

3:49 GENIUS. Now I am thinking to drive in the city in a bathtub...
this is incredible. Coromandel itself is one of the most beautiful places i’ve been, and this house perfectly compliments it. the fact that it's 21 years old is kind of shocking, it looks pristine.

Benefit to the wheeled bathtub, you can wheel your mate right off the deck. ;)

I love projects like this, I want one for myself! My mind was blown when he said it was 21 years old.. I thought it was newly built
"A refined way of camping" Perfectly stated! Quite an interesting and certainly unique getaway! Nice and private! Like his shirt too!
I could listen to him describe this all day, as I don’t need a dictionary or google archispeak translate to understand him. Beautiful project, and incredible that it is 21 years old. More of these please. Less of the bifurcationing and juxtapositioning…..

what no cabana hut or pool?
Home is “a repository of memories”. How lucky are the extended families to be enjoying this, too!
The design, location, and the phenomenal rolling tub!!!! Yes, Yes, Yes! Kudos!
Holiday homes can be very basic and not even be up to building code, and still work for the few weeks per year you live in it. For example, you could have a 'minimalist' (not very good) kitchen. You could bring clothes enough and not have a washer/dryer. You could bring in water and not have plumbing. So as a house it hasn't stood the test of actually living in it. This applies also to the folded-up walls. If there's bad weather, all the freedom this design offers turns the main room into a claustrophobic prison cell. It's a nice and pure idea, and this can sometimes hurt a house as a home to be lived in.
This is spectacular. I can't believe it's nearly 21 years old. If you'd told me it was 5 years old, I'd have believed you. I guess that's what great design is all about.
Brilliant design and excellently executed. The fact that it's 21 years old and still looks new is testament to it's clever design and use of materials. A few things that didn't seem to be covered though is, does it have a septic tank and why no solar panels? I love the drawbridge decks but would constantly worry about young kids falling off.
You’d want to lock those wheels on that bath before entering it - you may end up taking a bath in that beautiful bay itself. 🤔

I can see myself rolling off the side in the bathtub smile 😊
This is an IDEAL vacation home. You have peace of mind when you are there AND when you are not there!!!! Excellent job!!!
'Simple does not necessaryly mean easy'...this is one of the best examples of the care and attention that is possible in the design of 'a simple box'. Restraint...at it's most understated form...beautifully executed...and well maintained Thanks for sharing. John Ferraz Architect.
Some breaks for the bathtub would be practical to avoid some rollercoaster rides down to the sea. :D Love the architecture!
This legit is like my dream house! The view god damn it! Every video I see in this channel is straight out of dreams!
I absolutely love this. What a wonderful space to share with loved ones….and the LOCATION!!!!!! OMG, so,beautiful. You are very privileged to have this.
Respect of the nature, that's what a good architecture delivers. Nature, thank you for your beauty! Crosson Architects, brilliant work!
Merci, Mr. Bach! Delicious...
I like many of the other people who commented, I am surprised that the home is over 20 years old. It looks brand new. It's such a beautiful design which fits so perfectly into the environment in which it was built. The ability to open the doors to a magnificent view is fantastic. I love the bathtub on wheels and the drawbridge and I love that the house can be closed tight while you are gone. It's lovely! I'm thankful that you took risks in the design which worked out well.
One of the most amazing structures in the world. Have always loved this project - applause Thanks for the first hand narrative

A slight overstatement mate
thats incredible .. i thought it was a new build .. wow timeless!
I love that rolling tub!
I'm reading all these comments about the fact that the house is 21 years old and looks brand new. I think there are two factors in play here. First, there were obviously good choices made in the design and construction of the house and second, and more important in my opinion, it's a vacation home so it doesn't see the day to day bumps and bruises a full time residence would. It probably has a cumulative "lived in" time of a couple of years. Beautiful home and beautiful location.
Man, what a spectacular location!
Awesome project indeed. It's breathtaking, as the mobile tub, I'm so sold.
Oh my, that gorgeous bath! Adore it. What a super idea. I hope there are brakes on the wheels. Ha ha. Or not! Raise those side wings and take to the skies. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love the way that Ken talks about the project, such pride in his descriptions
What a beautifully designed modern cabin.
This channel is urging me to do a master of architect. No joke.
It struck me as utilitarian. It forces you to engage with the outdoors. Like the cabins I stayed at in Canada which were minimalistic. It's a creative and inventive house. Unusual. Thankyou
21 years and still looks modern and pristine! What an achievement!
I love this channel so much

Interesting that this cabin was built 25 years ago. Olson Kundig's widely acclaimed & ubiquitously published False Bay Writer's Cabin - with the same folding shutters/decks setup which I'd erroneously assumed to be innovative - wasn't built until 2010 (12 years ago). So a belated tip of the hat to Mr. Crosson for coming up with the system for his experimental cabin! (And he's right: the interiors still look pristine thanks no doubt to being battened up most of the year.)

Thank you. I wasnt aware of that. It seems that Kundig's cabin is using motor for lifting the deck. Do you know if this one is opened/closed manualy? There are some things visible at 3:49 where you can wind the rope for the smaller part of the decs. I am not sure if it would work for the big deck at the front.
Noah's ark ❤️ beautiful
I'm living in a wonderful natural environment like in this video. Now, If I could have a tiny cabin in this video, I can't ask for more. 👍
A bath on wheels, brilliant!
An amazing building, holding out on mentioning its age made for a pleasant surprise
built 21 years ago and looking very contemporary, that's really impressive
speechless setup with nature .....peace and relax living .....
This view reminds me Hobart Tasmania, the view in Taroona. Love love love it!
not me picturing the bath tub falling off the ledge when someones in it
What a beautiful and unique home. It's definitely one of my favorite featured on the channel so far.

Fantastic design. So livable, unique and sublime...!!! ♥
What an amazing house and location. So clever with the lock-up fortress-kind-of-gate that unfolds, the bathtub on wheels. This house was something special. One on one with nature and those breathtaking views ❤️🙏
I’m just flashed 🤩 21 years old but still timeless ❤ great ideas, very simple very clean design 👏👏👏 this design is forever ❤❤❤
Oh my, this just beckons you in doesn't it? After watching this beautiful story, I just felt that "I want one!"

This is a home of my dreams. That roll out tube to die for.
This is now my dream home!
this project is just amazing
Truly a timeless beauty!
Awesome cabin, so beautiful. Cool decks!
Such a serene, beautiful project. Love it!
WOW.. stunning.. I love the design and the view of nature as well! 👍
Absolutely wonderful. The bath! Oh my goodness, genius and delightful. The location and view from this masterpiece holiday home is like no other.
Beautiful house and location, a house for a lifetime.
I've always loved this house, and reached out to the firm that designed it, but never heard back from them. Perhaps I'll give it another try. You can't help but love the simplicity of it.
Absolutely loved this house. The experience of place and of the materials is deeply satisfying, even when experienced virtually. The down-to-earth, unfussy approach proves that a seemingly simple, prosaic building can answer the users' needs over time AND photograph well. This house is a source of valuable lessons for architects everywhere.
how to even get a building permit for such a property?
great!!
Very good, just magical!
love it, especially it is way ahead of its time build 21 years ago amazing
Incredible design and creativity
So beautiful oh my! ❤❤
Stunning!!
This house is amazing!
21 years?! You could have told me it was a year old and I would have just thought you had gotten pre-weathered wood for the cladding, decks, etc.
Such a nice place!
This is exactly what I want in a cabin
stunning.
Absolutely Brilliant 🥳🥳🥳
So beautiful ,I like it
I hope that bath has brakes. Foldaway decking is quite a nice touch of practicality and security.
Very nice person and I like what he said about experimentation, I couldn't agree more 👍 and turned to be a success 👍
beautiful!
Really nice!
Really really love it!
Beautiful Ken :)
This is a very nice house, thanks.
Stunning but unsafe...The lack of railings around the deck aroused great anxiety in me. My first impression was a concern of accidentally stepping off the deck, but then when I saw the portable tub, I had the horrible feeling of the bathtub rolling off the deck with its occupant helplessly falling over the edge of the cliff along with the tub.
I love it !!!
I'm jealous!
