It’s the same song, and yet she’s able to change it every time she sings it. Just amazing. It reminds me of the time I heard Johnny Mathis saying that he was only comfortable when he sang a song the same way every time. It takes a special talent to change a song for a live audience and have the confidence that you aren’t going to mess up in the process. Good job, Richard!

You mentioned that Angelina goes into her own world. She actually stated when she was much younger that when she sings she closes her eyes and goes into a magical world of love. That's certainly comes out in her performances.

Toby follows AJ's lead throughout the performance. Notice how AJ slows down the refrain -- she generally slows down songs in her live performances, which is fantastic, since she can linger on notes and runs in a way she can't when there's a time commitment to a production.

Yes, she frequently closes her eyes. Early on, when she was 7 and 8, she found that if she did not close them, the audience would see that her eyes roll up and back when she sings!

Thanks for reacting to my favorite performance of "If I Were a Boy", Sofar, with Toby. I am also impressed with Toby's humility, as the "famous cowriter of the song", who allows his piano to follow Angelina's vocal improvisations. This collaboration is a unique one that I hope gives us many more songs in the future. Their performance of "Bad Valentine" at the Hotel Cafe on May 24, 2024 offers another example of their promising collaboration as performers and cowriters. There’s an a Cappella version in the church you might want to check out. It’s available on Angelina’s Official KZread channel. At the end she turns to Toby and says “Yaay. That was good”. Yes, Jordan, I guess it was okay if you like absolute PERFECTION! lol! You can hear the echo in the church, her, Toby and the original cellist, no violins, just a raw rehearsal with no production whatsoever. It’s even better than the one you just watched, because it sounds more emotional to me. See what you think. She’s wearing the white evening gown, so we know it was a rehearsal, but her hand movements are different from the final video, but I guess they could have used this vocal and edited it with other videos, or not, I’m so confused lol!
